Hello all, I am going to have a little ramble this morning.

Shalimar Eau de Parfum by Guerlain

So Shalimar was the very first Guerlain I ever bought way back in the 80s and always have a bottle, some flankers but the classic.
Today's bottle is special for me as I won it at a Guerlain event, it was the night Diana, Princess of Wales appeared to give an interview on the BBC. Most of the UK was watching, but hell there was a Guerlain event with Roja Dove giving a talk on the history of the house. So they had a free raffle with prizes at the end. First price was a set of Samsara, I was dreading winning that as a co worked had turned me off it by wearing every day! Breathed as someone won it. Second was the Shalimar and I so wanted it! I won it!!!!! The bottle is actually a dab and not the normal spray version, and a bottle of the body lotion in the old green bottle. Yes, I still keep both in the gift box lined with silk, perhaps the lotion and now moved to a higher life forum. LOL Yes, I have decanted the edp and wore a few times. But keep it like a treasure because of the event.

Good morning and a happy Friday to you.

Happy BNiversary Hesta Jones.
@donna255 what a fab story and such a great win.
@Cook.bot very glad to hear you're feeling a lot better and hope you'll be feeling your usual self very soon.

Unfortunately I can't join the Friday sync, as I'm still working my way through various sample sets to find out a) what I like and b) which house appeals to me the most. Today I've gone with Cuir Ottoman by Parfum d'Empire. So far this is definitely in my wheelhouse.

Have a great day.

I'd be curious to hear which house(s) you used to wear before diving into the fragrance rabbit hole.
I've been a big fan of Renfest oils and Bath and Body Works over the years.
Still am :)

For today's synch - Dior Dioressence from a recent vintage(?) mini acquisition.

Prior to this I didn't wear perfume, as most of the ones I tried either smelt terrible on me or made me sneeze. :D

Hello Everyone, I wanted to stop in and say hello to all of the familiar "faces" and unfamiliar as well. I've been sparsely on basenotes over the past few years. Life got busy with work and having a daughter, who is close to turning 2 now! We're all doing well and I hope you all are too! I was sad to hear about Quarry when I found out, but I will always remember her from her contributions here and I'm glad I was able to meet her in Chicago. I wasn't really feeling like getting on the train that morning but I'm so glad I did! I miss all of you and hearing about your day-to-day. I'm going to make it a point to stop in every now and again :)

I'm at the office today and wearing Loewe Esencia Pour Homme Eau de Parfum. It's a fragrance that I recently acquired from Mercari - someone had a very slightly used bottle at a good price. This reminds me of a mature, mossy version of Creed's Aventus.

I hope all of you have a great weekend!

Donna225 - wow your story is amazing. I could feel the suspense as you were telling it. What a nice memory to associate with one of my favorite scents. I hope it brings you happiness for many years to come. I happen to be, at the moment, out of Shalimar (weird, right?) but someone gave me an Amazon gift card and when I realized that I could buy the Eau de Parfum at the same price on Amazon as from Guerlain direct, I ordered it (and some Shower Gel) with my gift card. Will be happy to have that one back - although I must admit the Eau de Cologne is my ultimate fav (Amazon doesn't have it). Plus, going to bed, scented with something else besides Shalimar is just not the same :)

rynegne - SO nice to see your post & know that you and your beautiful family are well and that you're still interested in fragrances. I think of you all of the time, I still own Limed, Mysore Lime, Royk, SantL and Fields of Provence and whenever anyone compliments me on them (I swear people love the way they smell on me) I talk about you. I hope we can meet again in person one of these days, I owe you a drink!

In Sync in:

Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice by Guerlain

I think this will probably be my last wearing from my bottle before I put it away until colder weather later this Fall. My bottle is dangerously low and the prices of it on eBay are outrageous...I can't see me owning another bottle. It is...to me...the epitome of a well done gingerbread-prominent scent. The only other one that I definitely smell gingerbread in (and I am not talking about that Bath & Body Works 'gingerbread candle' smell that is all over scents in Sephora and etc...I am talking about a real, natural, subtle smell of gingerbread) is Bois des Iles (Parfum) by Chanel

I forgot what the sync was. I chose Ensens Suave, Matiere Premier.
something is definitely wrong with me. I smell the most realistic strawberry, where absolutely no such fruit is supposed to be present. I’m not into fruit, but it’s okay. It doesn’t help that I wore Alien Essence Absolue last night. Soooo dreamy, that one. Siiiigh.

Cook.bot - I had to go back & re-read your post, I hope you're doing better. I'm the same as you - anything digestive wrong with me and I'm not wearing ANY fragrance. I was sick yesterday but my doctor put me on a 7 day prednisone session since my congestion was lingering and me doing tons of Cross Fit while that is going on is kinda dangerous. I felt immediately better as soon as I took the 1st dose. OMG thank God for modern medicine.

kosui no kaori - I saw you mention Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate by Hermes yesterday as something you want to try. Please do. It's juicy delicious rhubarb - but very fleeting & minimal. Perfect for summer but as you can see (per foxbins) it's good anytime!

It's been cloudy all day here so it felt like a good day for Mitsy, while still keeping myself in Sync:

@donna255 , what a great story!

Hint, hint: I'm dying to know which house is Cook.bot's favorite. Please, do not let illness stand in the way of satisfying my curiosity. 🤣

I was a little curious myself! Not being a Guerlain fan, I figured it would be between Hermès and Chanel -- but no! Hermès is tied with Dior at eleven apiece. Of course Dior has been effectively dead to me since about 1990, so it really only competes in the vintage category.

I admire the hell out of Hermès, and Chanel too, since they're the last two bastions standing between us and the complete corporatization of the major perfume houses. I just hope they can both hold out against LVMH and L'Oreal, et al, for the rest of my lifetime.

And for the SOTD and Sync I'll fly the Hermès flag with another wearing of my recuperation scent, Osmanthe Yunnan. I truly love it.

(and I am not talking about that Bath & Body Works 'gingerbread candle' smell that is all over scents in Sephora and etc...I am talking about a real, natural, subtle smell of gingerbread) is Bois des Iles (Parfum) by Chanel

This just inspired me to go find my decant of Bois del Iles before winter is over.

Every time I see that Hermes I think of Tanya Sanchez (Luca Turin's wife) - didn't she say she wore this for her wedding to him (I think Luca wore L' Air du Desert Marocain by Tauer)? I always think of Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan as the epitome of a Sunday night fragrance...beautiful & fleeting.

I wish I had a bottle of Bois de Iles to smell now, I've been out of that for eons. One of these days I will march into the Chanel boutique here in Brickell City Centre and buy me the Parfum.
