Women Wearing “Masculine” Scents.

kosui-no-kaori, I wonder if your Heritage reminded your DH of a specific person, or perhaps a specific type of person, and that is why he felt uncomfortable with your wearing it to bed.

This is something I thought of too. Maybe he is thinking that this fragrance came from a male basenoter, and that makes him uncomfortable given the specific time you wore it. During the day, it may be a different story. We men can be funny creatures. LOL

Nooooo, if anything, he thought it was so lovely and kind of you to share your favorites with me. I don’t think it was anything like that at all. We’re a pretty secure pair, and have no issue voicing a concern if one of us has one.

I’m wondering if it reminds him of a male figure in his life, or his past, as @grayspoole suggested.

Or, maybe he just feels like he’s cuddling with a guy 🤷🏻‍♀️

I still say compromise is the way to go. Wear Heritage during the day, and perfumes you and your husband agree on to bed.

My wife regularly wears traditional masculine scents (fougeres and the like). I very much enjoy those styles on her.

No problem from a personal viewpoint.
Thanks to so many great examples both here on Basenotes (and similar forums/communities) as well as offline IRL where ladies wearing masculine, especially male classic fragrances worthily stand out for such such inspired, classy and fascinating scent choices, but in part also due to considering gender divides in fragrances a bit arbitrary anyway.

In a nutshell, he said that in the dark, the paradox of holding silk and lace, while smelling a suit and tie, was odd.

Personally finding Heritage to be VERY unisex--and would love to smell it on a woman. Unfortunately, my wife would never go along with wearing it.

From my very limited viewpoint of being married to the same woman for 27 years… it’s simple: My wife wears my fragrances all the time. And it doesn’t bother me in the least. Whatever makes her happy is fine by me. However, if she wants to start a fire she already knows she’ll never get a spark if she smells like my grandpa or like Dracula’s under garments. It’s just not my jam. In like manner, I’d never wear her mom’s fragrance to bed, or Dracula’s under garments, even though they’re well broken in and comfy, and expect unbridled passion. Otherwise, there’s no rules or expectations. We wear whatever we would like to wear. It seems to be very straightforward and common sense for us, but we are also at a point that a simple look conveys a novel to one another. Best wishes to you and your hubby!

PS, As an alternative idea… if you did wear Dracula’s underwear to bed, your husband likely won’t even think about your fragrance. Or, it may unlock some next level excitement. Either way, I think you’d have a winner of a TikTok on your hands!

Yet my Mother wore in 1966, the original Eau Sauvage - couldn't get enough - along with My Sin and so many others.- Many of my perfumes are 'masculine'. No one has ever complained. Don't really much care what others think. --
