Women Wearing “Masculine” Scents.

kosui-no-kaori, I wonder if your Heritage reminded your DH of a specific person, or perhaps a specific type of person, and that is why he felt uncomfortable with your wearing it to bed.

This is something I thought of too. Maybe he is thinking that this fragrance came from a male basenoter, and that makes him uncomfortable given the specific time you wore it. During the day, it may be a different story. We men can be funny creatures. LOL

Lol!

Nooooo, if anything, he thought it was so lovely and kind of you to share your favorites with me. I don’t think it was anything like that at all. We’re a pretty secure pair, and have no issue voicing a concern if one of us has one.

I’m wondering if it reminds him of a male figure in his life, or his past, as @grayspoole suggested.

Or, maybe he just feels like he’s cuddling with a guy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Absolutely!

Would you care a bit, if it was laying next to you for the entire night? “It” meaning a scent that you might not care to snuggle with.
This is why im glad im single lol. I get what you're saying btw, but it probably would not bother me if it's not something obnoxiously loud and synthetic. I don't have problems with any particular style of fragrance, or any notes.

Men of Basenotes:

What are your thoughts and opinions on women wearing fragrances that lean towards masculine?

For example - my husband appreciates a certain Guerlain very much, but would rather I didn’t wear it to sleep. It strikes him as a bit awkward to lay next to such a masculine scent (fair enough).

So. What are your thoughts of your wife/girlfriend/hot date wearing a scent that you wear yourself?

Do you find it attractive? Confusing, and possibly repellent? Are you neutral about it all?

I guess while we’re on this subject, ladies - how do you feel about your husband/boyfriend/hot date wearing a very feminine scent?
My wife regularly wears traditional masculine scents (fougeres and the like). I very much enjoy those styles on her.

No problem from a personal viewpoint.
Thanks to so many great examples both here on Basenotes (and similar forums/communities) as well as offline IRL where ladies wearing masculine, especially male classic fragrances worthily stand out for such such inspired, classy and fascinating scent choices, but in part also due to considering gender divides in fragrances a bit arbitrary anyway.

Now you have me wondering about which Guerlain is it! ;)

And yes, I love it when women rock "masculine" fragrances. (Though from a strictly BFF point of view.)

Since joining BN, I’ve strayed from my usual bubble and branched out into territories that he’s never smelled on me before. I’m wondering if it’s just a matter of getting used to me smelling so (wonderfully) different.

Update: I have asked my husband what exactly bothered him about wearing Heritage to bed.

In a nutshell, he said that in the dark, the paradox of holding silk and lace, while smelling a suit and tie, was odd.

🙃
Maybe it is time to do some conditioning on your husband and have him associate positive memories with the new fragrances :devilish:

🤣🤣🤣

Actually, jokes aside, you get a feeling about a person after a while.

And you strike me as a Heritage kind of girl.

Heritage is refined, and worldly, and... special, for lack of a better word. I can picture you walking down the street swaddled in a gray coat, leaving a trail of Heritage like so many rose petals in your wake.

My dear Salumbre!! I don’t deserve you!!

Thank you for such kind words - you write so beautifully and eloquently. You sure know how to make someone feel special 😭

From my very limited viewpoint of being married to the same woman for 27 years… it’s simple: My wife wears my fragrances all the time. And it doesn’t bother me in the least. Whatever makes her happy is fine by me. However, if she wants to start a fire she already knows she’ll never get a spark if she smells like my grandpa or like Dracula’s under garments. It’s just not my jam. In like manner, I’d never wear her mom’s fragrance to bed, or Dracula’s under garments, even though they’re well broken in and comfy, and expect unbridled passion. Otherwise, there’s no rules or expectations. We wear whatever we would like to wear. It seems to be very straightforward and common sense for us, but we are also at a point that a simple look conveys a novel to one another. Best wishes to you and your hubby!

PS, As an alternative idea… if you did wear Dracula’s underwear to bed, your husband likely won’t even think about your fragrance. Or, it may unlock some next level excitement. Either way, I think you’d have a winner of a TikTok on your hands!

Is it 'honestly' a thing? Especially here on Basenotes. Marketing has pushed the differences. Yet my Mother wore in 1966, the original Eau Sauvage - couldn't get enough - along with My Sin and so many others.- Many of my perfumes are 'masculine'. No one has ever complained. Don't really much care what others think. --
off to re-organize my current rotation....... ;)

Thank you so much, Diddy!

I adore what you and your wife have. “… a simple look conveys a novel to one another.” My heart! It makes me excited to reach 27 years.

On another note, now all I can think about is Dracula’s undergarments 😳

I admire how bold and confident you are, Adonna! I imagine that when you enter a room, all eyes are on you.

I have no issues with it, as long as the fragrances aren't the 2 mens fragrances I find absolutely horrible.
Okay, now both kosui and I need to know which two men's fragrances are that horrible.
If Kate Upton or Jennifer Lopez were wearing them and making goo goo eyes at you, you'd just walk away?

That’s a fantastic idea 😏

There's a device called a light switch which can be used to assist in male olfactory reassociation therapy. Or so I hear! 😁

Confident enough not to care I suppose.
There are too many important things to focus on.
No matter what, if what someone is wearing is not working for you, move on. (it's not about you)
Wear what you like and be considerate.
If your S.O. is having trouble with your perfume adventures, it's totally understandable.
Give them a minute to catch up. you might need to strategize differently.
