Which scent gets you the most compliments? Pt.2

Funny. I wore Bois Imperial for work for the first time yesterday, I just got a 10 ml bottle, and I was about to write something like "no compliments at work, even when wearing BI" but that would just sound silly. And we never compliment each other on fragrances at my work place. Haircuts, clothes, good manners and so on but never fragrances. The only one I can remember in five years was me complimenting a co-worker Don't know why it like this really.

But! I had a meeting with my boss before the end of the day. I sat in a room and waited for her, and immediately as she entered she complimented me for smelling so good. She told me how good it was and that it was really fresh. That was 8 hours after application, so this one is very potent!

After coming home I reapplied two small sprays for the evening dinner I was invited to. I met with two friends and I got complimented for smelling very nice as I came. That is not unusual though. My friend knows my passion for fragrances and compliment me from time to time. Friend number two chimed in and told me it was a really good one. I said I wanted to freshen up before the dinner and asked if it was too much. He is usually pretty straight forward but he said it was perfectly fine.

This seems to be very like-able. I can't really see why But sure, it is pretty nice. But I know many other fragrances that is without getting this reactions

Maybe you are right. One of my first wearings I thought it smelled just like Grey Vetiver but with an added sort of sweetness or spicyness. Now I think that I have not smelled anything like it, so it might be as easy as that.

I’m on full wearing #4 and it’s much colder. I can tolerate it better but still get nothing that people are praising and am still left with a “Deep Woods Off” feel. I really want to like it. I sprang for a bottle. I’ll keep trying

Try reducing the number of sprays by 1, until you get to a point where maybe you don't get that "Green & Orange can" accord?

I hardly ever get a compliment from my wife but the other day, she calmly let me know how much she enjoyed a fragrance trail I left in ANOTHER ROOM! Now, that was a pleasant surprise. GENTLE FLUIDITY SILVER.

I think it wears quite well, and I have received compliments on it. Very enjoyable.

I was in an old steam train and the young female conductor said I smelled smelled amazing - JPG Scandal Pour Homme.

Though she did mention it leaned feminine. The airy caramel note does link it to female gourmands but Scandal PH is a lot woodier than most feminine gourmands and it also has a big mandarin note in place of florals.

One of my fragrances earned quite the compliment the other day, just not in the expected way.

While my mom is in town visiting, she always has a blast picking through my perfume cabinet and sampling blindly. Her tastes run the gamut, and on this particular day she was wearing Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin (blood red rose + geranium, with just a hint of sweetness). She had on a single spray to her neck and half a spray on the back of her hand. Very light application overall, yet it absolutely filled our living room with sillage for about 3 hours. Every time I'd come back in, it was the first thing I smelled - and it smelled great! On her skin, it took on a much more feminine character than it does on mine, but it just smelled like fresh roses (very natural smelling all in all).

Several hours later, my wife comes home from work, comes about 6 feet from my mom and stops in her tracks. "WHAT is that smell??? It smells incredible in here. [Gesturing to my mom.] Is that you? That's one of the best things I've ever smelled." Needless to say, I think they both want bottles for Christmas now.

Mind you, I've worn FdB several times around her and never earned a compliment :-/

Well it happened….after me saying it smelled of bug spray and I didn’t believe the compliments on Bois Imperial..it happened.

I was wearing sweats from being outside putting up Christmas stuff and was asked to go to the store. What the heck..2 soft sprays as I head out…I’m still feeling nuclear but whatever. As I’m in self check out this woman who always says hi to me and works there helps me with something. Her quote..”are you wearing cologne? I’ve never smelled anything like that. It’s wonderful…and just the right amount.” 😀

Was in Japan for a couple months, I brought D&G the one, amber sun, PDM herod, Vanille apricot , Creed SMW, By Kilian Love, and HOS no1.

Top 3 compliment getters were.. surprisingly to me actually the one, amber sun, and hos no1. Again though 90% of people wear masks though, and japanese people arent super open but I did some smell testing with girls as well to add to this but yea there you go.

I’m picking up my 13 yr old daughter and her two friends to take them to dance. I was wearing Prada Luna Rossa Ocean. The one girl says…”it smells so good in here, it reminds me of a tropical sno-cone. “

I know it starts citrus and fruity before the lavender and then the drydown I love which is caramel/gourmand and musky. But I guess the top lasts longer than I thought.

Bois Imperial is the gift that keeps giving.

I think it’s a bit thin at times and then someone will compliment me.

No compliments yet on Bois Imperial for me but it is one of the loudest, most effusive scents I have. Lasts all day and is annoyingly persistent. It never takes a break. The scent is decent but I think its compliment power seems to come from the impressive projection and longevity.

The only frag i've received multiple compliments on is Royall Rugby. Low projection and longevity but I carry small atomizer in the car to spritz and the first hour is really lovely. Probably for men 35+. Compliments are all from experienced women. Great casual pub scent but it's a splash on with low durability. Kind of sporty preppy as the name implies but not at all your typical sport freshie....definitely earthy/brown. I guess I should write a review.

That's awesome! I can't remember getting compliments from Percival, but it's hard to offend anyone and it wears well in high heat. Based on your fondness for Percival, you should sample PdM Sedley (if you haven't already). It's the lighter brother to Percival and a banger also surely to pull compliments.
