Hermes is known for its leather goods and Bel Ami was indeed a special perfume back in the day, but I feel currently it doesn't live up to its reputation. I'm curious as to which is the best leather scent from Hermes among its current offerings, and if you think any is bottle worthy?

To start the ball rolling, I feel Cuir d'Ange is the best among the current ones.

Equipage is the best one, I think, and of course full bottle worthy. I think Equipage is currently the best fragrance from Hermes.

From this list, would have quite significant difficulties to only decide for one, therefore voted for "other", simply because way too many fragrances by this house might easily qualify for this ranking.

Including but not limited to Equipage, Bel Ami and/or its flankers, Eau d'Hermes, even certain disparate leathery hints in Rocabar and more.

...but I don't think it's a leather scent at all, but rather an animalic spiced citrus.

Yeah, I was all hot and bothered to vote for it, but then went for Bel Ami Vetiver at the last moment. Eau d'Hermes and Equipage are my favorite current Hermes (and to be fair, I haven't smelled the most recent EdH)...but don't think of either as leather, really. And I don't know Galope or Cuir d'Ange.

I voted Galop because I find it the most interesting of the group, with Nagel's signature rotten fruit note. But to be honest it's really not a leather perfume in the usual sense (in the same way as Eau d'Hermes is not really a leather).

With current offerings Bel Ami Vetiver offers a blast of Leathery goodness at least initially.
My fave Hermes currently though is Eau dD'Hermes with it's rather nasty mothballish Civet
80'S Bel Ami's slow evolution and oily Jasmine lilt together with a touch of Birch remains the Masterpiece.
Equipage Contemporary I find rather floral and Calech-ey.

Ugh I love Cuir d'Ange. I wish it was more than a skin scent though.

Have you only tried once/twice? Or several times.

It was indeed a skin scent for me, but that was in the summer a few years back when I lived in Phoenix. I was a grad student, and used to be out and about in the heat. 90-95% of perfumes used to be skin scent.

I've tried several times. In fact, I'll go put some on right now as my SOTD :)
This is a 4 sprayer for me! 4 sprays is a thumbs up. One is too light.

I love Equipage, especially the vintage. But call me crazy—I don’t get leather. It is not listed as a note here on Basenotes, by Hermès or by even Lucca Turin. I get lots of great things from it but leather is not one of them.

I agree - I get very little leather from Equipage in both vintage and current. I just see it as powdery/soapy with some woods in the mix and an overall clean-freshness.

Same. I love Equipage (tied for favorite Hermes with Eau d'Hermes). To me it's a freshly spiced woody powdery soapy floral. Somewhat dandy-ish, but still with some gravitas.

I guess there's leather in there as a component of the soapy/powdery accord, just adding a bit of smooth heft, but it's in the background. The spices and florals are the stars, to me.

I'm with Oviatt, largely, excepting that Vintage throws off a feeling of a Man's Leather Toiletry Bag.

My SOTD was vintage Equipage, and I got leather, but it was more glove leather than saddle leather. My only complain was that I could have stood more longevity, but I guess that just means I'll have to buy more. Oh, the horror.

I own four from the list and have sampled all at some point. I voted Bel Ami, but truth be told, I go very long periods between wearings. I respect the house but other houses scratch my itch far better.
