As useful as the Fragrance DIY forum is, one thing that is a problem is the amount of information that just gets lost, and it's in forum form. Stickies get made, and then the person who made the sticky no longer edits the top thread with current information and things get outdated.

So to help members collate the info within the forum I've created this Wiki area. There are three areas:
To stop the Wiki being filled with spam, and perhaps false information, we have restricted the creation and editing of articles to members who have contributed lots of posts to the Fragrance DIY forum. If you you have awesome perfumery knowledge and don't have creating or editing abilities then please send me a message explaining that you would like them!

(I tried something earlier this year in the Perfumery Ingredients forum, but the add-on used was a bit complicated)

Creating an article

Firsly, navigate to the category most suits your article, and click the Add Article button.

Please regard Copyright and don't just copy and paste from other websites (This includes images)- if there is a useful website, feel free to link to it. If you are using information from a thread in the Fragrance DIY forum, please add a link to the thread and mention any members that you may have quoted.

When you create an article, a corresponding 'talk' page will be also created here. You can reach this page by clicking on the Discussion Tab at the top of the article. This page is for the discussion of improvements to Fragrance DIY Wiki articles.

Contributing to an article

If you have some information you wish to contribute to an article, click on the Contribute button and you will be added to articles contributor list. You will then be able to 'edit' the article, and add and amend as you wish.

This is a collaborative system

The idea of the wiki is that it is a collaborative process. The idea is to combine our collective knowledge and wisdom to provide something that is useful for everyone. If someone adds something useful to an article you started, that's a good thing. If you don't agree with something in an article then it may be worth discussing it on the article's discussion page.

Be Brave

You can't break anything. Any edits you make to an article can be reverted if need be, so go ahead - add that footnote that you think will be useful to the Fragrance DIY members.

Btw, It's still a work in progress - there might be bugs and weird stuff.
Any questions, post them below

Are you going to have this new page as well as the existing DIY and Single Note pages, or instead of? I agree with you that a lot of valuable information can easily get lost, and I think it a shame that previous attempts to sort this problem do not appear to have worked. I think it may well need one or more editors to take control and organise, and file, efficiently. One (or more) moderator who knows something about Perfumery ( not just about Perfumes) and can take control of the filing etc. Sort of like an on-line librarian.

Will it be possible to take the huge amount of information in the Single Note page etc. that already exists and put them here in a way that folk can easily find what they want. Seems to me that that will be a huge task.

Forgive a bear with very little brain, but who will be able to contribute and edit? Could you make it more clear please? For example it seems that I am no longer able to edit the Single Note posts, something I had been told that I could do.

Yes. The new pages are for the collation of the information. The Single note threads will remain for the discussion of those ingredients.

At the moment, I don't think it's likely to be very busy based on the previous attempt at this, and I can keep an eye on things. If it starts getting very busy, we can look at picking some people to help oversee it if they are interested and have the knowledge to do so

That's the plan. It might take some time, but in the long term it should be more useful

Currently it is limited to any member who had made a significant number of posts in the Fragrance DIY board, (I'm declining to say the number to avoid people posting shit to reach it) - however, anyone with a keen interest and wants to help out can message me to be put in the contributor group. By the same token, anyone who abuses the privilege can have it removed

For example it seems that I am no longer able to edit the Single Note posts, something I had been told that I could do.
Yes, I'm going to (over time) transfer anything useful from those threads into the Wiki (and anyone else can do the same too). As mentioned above, these threads will remain for discussion of the ingredient/note.

Hope this helps explain

Thanks so much for reorganizing this data, its so much better and more intuitive to navigate. Big improvement in my opinion.
