Weekend Perfume Sync June 2022 through June 2023

Did eventually find a somehow similar/comparable choice for syncing yesterday: Massimo Dutti, that does formally not contain honeysuckle.
On the other hand, its jasmine and citrus opening completed by a honeyed base were the next best choice, as close to honeysuckle as possible maybe just enough for syncing.

I have two samples I haven't tried yet that have honeysuckle notes: Goutal Le Chevrefeuille and Guerlain Vetiver pour Elle. I'll extend the weekend synch so that I can try both and report back for @yellowtone

Ah! So that's the floral note in Vetiver Pour Elle! Nice to know! Explains why I like it!

I've had a fairly enjoyable day with Frost by St. Clair Scents. My wife doesn't like it - for a lot of reasons people here would. To her is smells woody, boozy, and old-fashioned. To me, that provides a great background to a kind of honeyed sweetness that many of us guys like. It's listed as unisex, and I would agree with that, but it's unisex in a kind of "ye olde Kilian" way. Very easy for a guy.

I tried Gardener's Glove yesterday but I realised that my nose is still not back to normal after my bout of Covid; I could hardly detect it, and I know from a previous wear that this is not a shy scent on me. So I'll hold my horses and will try again when my sense of smell is recovered. This is bad timing because I'm in Copenhagen for a week and I was looking forward to smelling some stuff at the local Niche shops.

Reporting back: I’m currently wearing Goutal’s Chevrefeuille. I’m not sure if it’s the honeysuckle in the picture you shared (which I don’t think I’m familiar with); this seems more like the bushy yellow and white flowers, but you may want to give it a try. It’s a very grassy green honeysuckle, not very sweet and with a sparkling quality. Certainly very pretty and a true honeysuckle, just perhaps not the one you’re looking for.

Gardener's Glove is a strong one with lots going on! Yes - you need some Covid recovery for sure. Sorry to hear this news, but looking forward to comparing notes when you recover! 😁

Might consider joining the sync theme of tan lines and freckles with the few scents option in the personal wardrobe that contain summery notes- that might range anywhere from clean, refreshing citruses to more overtly tropical notes like coconut.

I, in the mean time, have stuck my foot in it. Yesterday I happily declared that my nose remained unaffected by Covid, so today I woke up smelling and tasting NOTHING at all. I hope this passes quickly because this makes life very dull and frustrating!

Tan lines & freckles

Lounging around the pool on a long, lazy summer's day

I am in Copenhagen where it has been unseasonably hot for a few days, so I even went to the beach to take a dip in the ocean. I would have liked to wear Freckled & Beautiful by A Lab on Fire, a gorgeous, your-skin-but-better floral with an interesting milk & cookies note but I did not bring it. I'll pop into some perfume stores and see what I can find that fits the theme. The smelling is getting slightly better so it will be a good test.

Trying out Sag Harbor by Bond no. 9. A floral aquatic that is interesting in a "perfume and shampoo and suntan lotion by the beach" way. More interesting than plain old suntan lotion scents.

The ultimate swimming pool scent to me is this. I can almost smell the chlorine. It is very one dimensional and yet very evocative to me. Tan lines certainly. Freckles? Not sure.

As a person with the skin complexion of a redhead, I have little experience with tan lines since I've always just burned and peeled, never tanning. But LOTS of experience with freckles. Was covered with them as a kid, lost them as an adult, and now in my dotage they're returning as age spots. UGH.

I'd never consider wearing perfume to the pool, since I'd just swim it off immediately, but this sync got me thinking about what a massive marketing opportunity the perfume houses are missing by not producing PERFUMED SUNBLOCK. Those of us with incipient age spots (i.e., the ones with disposable income) would slather that stuff on like there was no tomorrow. And the first ones I'd jump in line to buy would be Dior Dune and Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte. Perfect pool scents.

Oh, that would be brilliant! I would want a Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and a big jasmine as well. It'd double as a room scent after I doused my toddler in it. The possibilities!

High-end scented sunblock is a very nice product idea!

I synched yesterday evening with Guerlain Terracotta - people say it smells like a sun cream, and therefore it fits

Today I'm on my way to the lake wearing Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde - to me it smells a lot like a lovely cocktail you would drink by the pool like they do in the movies - lots of juicy sugared lime.

I don't mind wearing a fragrance on the way to a lake - yes, I will wash it off as soon as we arrive, but it takes two hours to get there when we include getting some food on the way and taking two buses to go there (and we missed the 2nd one as it went just when we were walking out of the first one, ghhh). Fragrance is very welcome in this case!🙂
I wish I had a car in instances like this. We would get there in 20 mins...

Being Fair skinned, I burn first, Freckle Second, and eventually end with "Ruddy" coloured skin.

Something inspired by Scheherazade, a tale within a tale

Follow N.CAL's approach and pick something with Middle Eastern vibes, or have a more abstract take on the theme, get creative!

Samsara is a great pick, but it's high summer here and I don't think I'd survive even a small spritz, so I'll probably go with a scent that tells me a story; something that unfolds with unexpected twists and turns...

Ohhh I just found the perfect pick for this theme when unpacking my back up bottles: Promesse de L'Aube! In 1001 nights, Sheherazade kept telling her stories every night to avoid getting killed off by her new husband, so I imagine she would have been eagerly awaiting the first light of dawn which meant she made it through another night; the promise of dawn seems fitting and it's a gorgeous, rich jasmin and sandalwood.

Might consider for the upcoming sync something both Oriental and complex-especially regarding "a scent within a scent", "the mystery around/in a fragrance" etc.
Likely to choose among samples by few niche houses being simultaneously quite good at exotic notes and at cultivating, even celebrating/highlighting "deliberate intricacy". Or maybe from a few Middle Eastern houses more obscure in terms of popularity, but at least equally high standards of accomplished craftiness.

I haven't yet @filledoux but I like Murakami so it's on my radar.

The nose is back and enjoying Promesse de L'aube very much. Damn it's a great scent! Thick, rich jasmine and peach on a bed of smooth sandalwood, heady but just the right side of cloying. It's the only sweet floral / fruit scent in the MDCI lineup that doesn't devolve into an intensly thick sweet syruppy mess.
