That's quite the visual @JoM68!

And @sakecat dry sandalwoods always have a calming, serene effect on me.

I have 1 scent that immediately comes to mind for this theme: the wonderfully sparse and cool Iris Nazarena by Aedes Venustas, introspective, cerebral, a real palate cleanser. But I'm saving that for tomorrow, today I'll dip into a sample of Heeley's Eau Sacree. Now everything Heeley does has this clear eyed, deliberate, measured feel to it, this perfumer has a unique sense of direction. I loved his other incense fragrance, Carndial, so I'm curious about this one. I expect it to be darker and less scrubbed clean.

Gosh; I’m trying to this of something.

I have three samples that consider to be contemplative but not austere.
Youth Dew original
Mitsouko
Apres L’Ondee

Then, I have incense samples but they’re elaborate.
Gold Woman, for example.
Also, Ensense Suave. It’s not austere though.

This one has me stumped.

Syncing with One Man Show by Bogart.
Although a powerhouse with almost nuclear performance, this one is (paradoxically or not) among the more austere fragrances do personally own.
Also quite stern, laundry detergent style clean, sharp and bracing up to the point of being icy/metallic-and in spite of or maybe because of these notes happening to still enjoy this.

I think I‘m going with Aprés L’Ondèe.

I was so sad when I discovered that my little sample was empty 😢.
I almost went with Mitsouko, but it didn’t feel right.
so then I went with a vintage Youth Dew decant that has turned.
Can one have a bad perfume day?
For what it's worth we at least house synced.

Oh no, that is such a bummer! Goes to show one should use up samples and decants swiftly. I have a tendency to save the last drops of something for a special occasion, only to find out it's all evaporated by the time said occasion comes around.

The Guerlain's you and @N.CAL Fragrance Reviewer selected I also find introspective, though they are not particularly sparse.

I selected the Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche today, which I recently discovered due to @imm0rtelle's suggestions in the 'green' fragrances thread. It has that minimalist, transparent feel, typical for Ellena, so it fits the theme on that front, but it also smells quite natural and botanical. In fact, it would have been the perfect pick for one of our earlier themes: Wildflowers & Weeds; things that grow by the side of the road. It's a delicate floral but with an undercurrent of bitter green that feels just a little poisonous. This aspect only comes out on the skin. I love it!

The most contemplative scents for me are the earthy, somewhat dank ones -- like vegetation with soil still attached. And in that realm, absolutely nothing compares to the monster Earth Mother herself, Clinique Aromatics Elixir. Very careful application is required, usually of the "spray and walk through it" method.

Well, it was a busy, scent-filled weekend.
Though not austere, I find Youth Dew to be contemplative. As previously reported, my decant has turned. I had to scrub it after a couple of hours, last night.

I wore Fate for a few hours. It doesn’t sound like a sync, if taken at face value. However, my decant is quite subdued. This is the only experience I’ve had with Fate, but I think it’s supposed to be more ostentatious. In any case, you’ll have to trust me on that one.

This morning, I went with a tiny dab of Mitsouko, since I only have a small sample. (It’s time for a decant.) Since it was a small dab, it floated off and I went off the rails with Lyric. 🤣

My Apres L’Londee was only a 1 ml sample. (I didn’t realize how great it would be.) I thought I had half of it left, but alas. I used it all in one wearing since it’s so subtle.

For Youth Dew, I was getting some decants from a person and asked if they had Youth Dew. They didn’t. Well, they found some from a bottle from 1979! I decided that was fine, since I already had a “haul“ going. It was fine, at first. But the sprayer got kinked up about a month in, so I think maybe it got some air in it. Not sure, but yes, a bummer indeed.

I had a solo, quiet night and was craving it. I find that to be the most enjoyable occasion to wear it. Thank goodness it wasn’t a unicorn or something hard to find! I can get another one.

I find lilies austere so I synched with Cartier's Baiser Vole and Fragonard's Mon Lys today. Comparing the two was a mistake as Mon Lys, while being quite nice on its own, just does not compare with the level of nuance in Baiser Vole. So I kind of ruined Mon Lys for me by doing that.

I also find inexpensive brands fitting the lent and austerity theme, too, so I wore my 4711 eau de colognes on weekend mornings.

I also did do a small spray of Serge Lutens' Dent de Lait - it feels calm and minimalistic with its slightly lactonic and slightly metallic incense.

I also anti-synched by having cake, yoghurt, peanut butter and grapes for breakfast, eggs for lunch, some sausage and blueberries for snack and ice cream for dinner.

I had an auntie who was dead set against synching. Her name was Aunt Sync. A lot of people were against her. They were anti anti auntie synch.

I want to take a moment to thank @yellowtone for running such a wonderful weekend sync ‘program’, for lack of a better word. This is such fun and truly brightens my week. So many opportunities to explore, learn and stretch the imagination!

Aww, thanks! It was fun coming up with the themes, and it's fun to see what you all make of it. Some weekends I am stumped by my own prompts, but seeing your interpretations and picks always get my creativity going!

Interesting, I know a lot of people associate lilies with funerals, so maybe that's why you find lilies austere? I personally find them carnal and blousy, but then I have never been to a funeral where there was an abundance of lilies.

This is probably cultural. Where I live white lilies and white chrysanthemums are the ultimate funeral flowers.

Thought I'd go with Akro's Haze, as that suggests it's a cannabis fragrance. It is no such thing, though I am a little thankful for that. First and foremost one of my favourite herbs - mint, but the darker, woodier type, not your cold, airy version. I don't know what absinthe smells like but I get the artemesia. I guess I could say this was trippy because I was expecting something else than what I've got.

I know, it's a reach.

February 25 & 26 - This is your mind on perfume - Trippy scent experiences

Bring on your surprising fragrances, weird associations, and strange experiences!

I recently tried Areej Le Dore's Beauty and the Beast, which, although a lovely oud/sandal/rose, smells NOTHING like his fabulous smokey resinous Russian Oud, until the next day, when showering, it smelled EXACTLY like Russian Oud. I haven't been able to reproduce this strange effect, but I am trying again this weekend.

While I was looking for samples from the ultimate house of trip, Nasomatto, had a trip of entirely different kind. Digging through all samples, and finding samples I forgot I had - vintage Guerlinadе, Caron Tabac Blonde, and a few other Carons and Guerlain's. Vintage trip if you like :)

I have 3 samples from Nasomatto - Hindu Grass, Duro and Absinth. Had Narcotic Venus, but used last drops a while ago and did not find it that interesting. I recall it reminded me of something else. Anyway, I digress (must be the fug of all samples I had to dig through) and need to get back to the topic. Hindu grass it is for me - simultaneously sharp, fresh and sweetly weedy, a bit 'namaste' and floaty.

Excellent choice.

The trippiest scent I own is one I'm happy to don today, because there are so few -- in fact, zero -- occasions for it.

Grimoire by Anatole Lebreton is a bit of a marvel of perfume enginerring, if one with very few practical uses. It smells like the interior of a stone-lined cave where you go to sit down in a leather chair and leaf through the pages of an antiquated book printed on actual parchment. You haven't bathed in a few days so every now and then when you turn a page, you catch a faint whiff of your own odorous armpit.

I actually love the way it smells, but I can't imagine that anyone else would really enjoy smelling it on me.

I’m trippin’ over the fact that I’m wearing L’Oudh, Tauer. It was in my sample pack. It’s a super butch, medicinal, motor oil, barbecue pit smoke, furniture shellac *edit: lacquer or wet paint. Whooooaa, mannnn!
Edit:
I tried to stick it out, but it became a scrubber after 3 hours. Unfortunately, this one had the best projection of all of the samples I tried. It was fun to test though.

Grunge weekend, yay!

I love grunge with all my little black heart, and this love never faded since I was 15.
I would still say that Pearl Jam is one of the best bands out there. (Yeah, that's my favourite out of the Big Seattle Four.)
I was devastated when Chris Cornell died. I was too little to know anything about music when Kurt died though, and when Layne died I hadn't found grunge yet. So many deaths and so many things to be sad about. That said grunge was never a happy genre.

I could talk about the music for days. However, I do not associate grunge with perfumes at all so it's kinda difficult to find something appropriate. I'd say this genre was not about any frivolities of style or grooming like goth or hair and even punk bands were, grunge is all about the feelings, the angst, the anger, the sorrow, the music and expressing yourself through the lyrics. Looks are just unimportant here, and yeah, you can say it evolved into some kind of style just out of being so not about style which is somewhat ironic, but irony is also welcome here.

But I am synching today with Bohemiens en Voyage by Alkemia - because it's an oil, because it's an affordable and, most importantly, indie brand, and because it smells unpretentiously earthy, it smells of hay and dusty fields, and I feel it's fitting.

I believe Bvlgari Black (1998) would also fit with its offbeat smoky vanillic car tyre smell, and also Lush Karma (1995) for its strange patchouli and orange concoction, and it's also affordable and kinda indie and not really trying to fit in.
I might wear one of those during the weekend if I feel like wearing them, too.

Out of the more luxury brands, I think Dior's Hypnotic Poison and Addict could kinda fit, and from the more affordable ones, maybe Jovan Musk or The Body Shop's White Musk, or maybe some kind of patchouli, sandalwood or musk oil, too. Or something earthy, brownish-grayish, or something with a more raw, crude style (like many creations from Lush).

I read that Teen Spirit was actually a deodorant brand for girls easily found in the supermarkets at the time. They came in many flavours - Pink Crush, Sweet Strawberry, Berry Blossom, Ocean Surf, Cool Coconut, Orchard Blossom, Romantic Rose, California Breeze and so on.
I think just wearing a deodorant and no actual perfume would be very in the teen spirit of the synch.

Oh, and since I love Bvlgari Black, here is some Black from Pearl Jam in MTV Unplugged:

I love MTV Unplugged so much.
Apparently MTV was a good channel about music once.

Mannn. Last night I was bummed that I didn't think I had anything for this weekend. UNTIL!
I found a sample of a Mugler cologne, Run Free. I recalled it was supposed to have a cannabis note. When I think of the Nirvana video for Smells like Teen Spirit, I thought that might fit the bill. Sampling it now, it sure does have an aromatic, wet, green note baked (buh-dum-tss) into its linear, freshie personality. Very 90’s vibe to me.

A woman after my own heart!
Yes yes to all. As a fashion enthusiast, it amuses me to no avail how I’m seeing grunge re-emerge right now-which i feel very contrived from the get go like those $200 tattered, holey jeans. Doc Martens are cool again (personally I think they’re forever cool) and I get miffed like an old woman that I am when these youngins think they discovered a new thing 🤪

Thinking of wearing SJP Stash today. A little dirty, skanky, worn in and a tad unwashed
