Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers - contemporary formulation

90s era calone floral.
Once the hairspray burns off, I get a pretty floral and woods combo containing a small hint of calone to add "melon" within a grounding mossy musk.

Sadly, I'm finding that my skin is deciding to amp up the calone notes as it wears.
I had hoped the calone would burn off within 5 minutes and leave the rest of it. Wishful thinking.

I can't compare this formulation to the 90s version - because I typically despise this type of scent and don't like it enough now to investigate further.
At least Sunflowers, in its current state, is wearable.

Today I’m trying Patou 1000 and Chanel Cuir de Russie.

I have only recently realized how similar they are.

Wearing them together brings out a playful side to Cuir de Russie. They’re both smelling good. The Patou feels just about on par with the Chanel this morning.

I'd say more like Japanese jazz fusion band Casiopea for Jazz Prestige.

Also @CookBot Avon Elusive is the more-animalic sister to Charisma. Perhaps the most animalic Avon I've ever smelled to date. Could be Kouros' mom too.
Off topic I know....this will be my last post on the matter.
So I gave Casiopea a nice wearing today and I see your point. They remind me of the Weather Report style of jazz fusion.
May I suggest revising my Bitches Brew suggestion to a couple bands yu must explore if you're unfamiliar. They they're a bit more on the rock end of jazz-rock fusion and more my style but they're also a bit more obscure than some acts in the genre. My recommendations are the Danish outfit Secret Oyster and the just amazing Isotope from the UK.
Both only put out a handful of albums and all are worthwhile. For a really deep dive, Isotope's guitarist Gary Boyle issued a handful of solo records over the years but his two from the 70s (Electric Glide and The Dancer) are really great.
Ok ok, I'll shut up!

Bijan for Men by Bijan (1981)
(So another from my cheapie hall o' fame is this stalwart. It reminds me very much of another hall inductee and that's Versace L'homme.
The price on vintage Bijan is still dirt cheap while the Versace has risen. The current version of the Versace is however still pretty inexpensive. But this Bijan has been overlooked by me as I haven't worn it since last fall! That's unacceptable! It's quite nice and I need to wear it more oft!)

Inspired by @JoM68 last week, and by an article that Miguel Matos wrote.

Popy Moreni (1997) by Martin Gras

This strange little number is much more interesting than it has any right to be, given its era and provenance. It's sort of a savory coffee accord laid on a bed of tropical florals -- and it's not repulsive! I can't say I'm sensing the "coffee animalic" that Miguel Matos promised but I am finding it compelling enough to keep sniffing my wrist over & over. And the circus tent design is just so charming.

Weather Report is good stuff, and I've heard Bitches Brew btw, it's pretty chaotic. Jazz of any kind is only a splinter in my taste spectrum. There's also crossover with heavy metal too, as jazz fusion finds its way to progressive varieties of the former.

Anyways back to old smellies!

Yep, got all that stuff. Very off-topic, but we could pick it up in the Lounge.

Jumping in once off topic..... have been a fan of Terence Blanchard for a long time, but his more recent e-collective stuff just kicks live. Just saw him for 3rd time in about 6-7 months. To the point, when he started playing the stuff that was new one album back it was like he had been listening to some old Judas Priest for inspiration. Then the more recent one is much more prog metal style. It's not really fusion, but of two friends that don't like jazz much but like prog rock one was into it... ok, the other said it was just more bad jazz!!! But yeah, some definite crossovers from metal to jazz, which usually I like. Another guy who is pretty well known, bass player, was telling me how he switched to GK amps after getting obsesses with Maiden's bass sound....

Back OT - today wearing vintage Floris Elite. (Need to compare to more current Elite one of these days...)

You'd probably like Cynic, Atheist, and a few others of that jazz fusion/death metal crossover bubble, if you can handle the vocals.

Also my SOTD is really hitting the spot, I think Arden for Men Sandalwood could almost hang in summer too.

Might as well make an off-topic contribution: someone mentioned Secret Oyster. Their co-citizens from Denmark, Burning Red Ivanhoe, made a very good and jazzy rock debut LP, released in 1970.
