SOTD: Carven Le Vetiver
Not sure how I feel about this one. Opens like a minty fougere that slowly transitions into a proper vetiver, which then drys down to smelling identical to Villoresi’s Sandalo (which to me smells like a dusty antique or thrift store).
It’s certainly different , I’ll give it that.

Yes, I also struggled a bit with that one early on (despite my unquestionned love for the vetiver note).
I don't really see similarities with LV Sandalo, but I can definitely agree that the opening (that blast of gin with florals) is really an acquired taste.
An interesting one for sure, and i wish they did a different cap design, that wouldn't brake the sprayer.

Still seems weird to say but is also a reality check…. My vintage SOTD is Mugler Cologne.

What’s worse is that I’m now old enough, at 49, to remember when deep(er) vintage fragrances were new releases. AND, I started collecting fragrances before my younger brother @Mythrol was even born! SMH. Ah well.
Haha! You’re so old at 49 soon you’re gonna be a vintage fragrance! Good choice on the fragrance though. It was a sad day when Mugler was reformulated.

The whole thing is quite strange isn’t it? I do agree that the vetiver used in this is quite nice.
The base imo is absolutely identical to LV Sandalo, at least the older Sandalo bottle I have. Not like “they smell similar“, but exactly the same accord.
And yes, the cap/atomizer situation is a disaster lol. I knew about the cap knocking off the atomizer going in, I’m familiar with that happening via vintage bottles of Jacomo de Jacomo, and I still sent the atomizer and the little spring across the room when opening it the first time.
I’m guessing a number of people who did the same didn’t notice or weren’t able to find the little spring, hence all the accounts of the atomizer no longer working after it happened.

Un Homme by Charles Jourdan (1979)
(Firmly in the Azzaro PH school of aromatic fougeres this is a case of the student outdoing the teacher. I am a big fan of Azzaro but this is a level above.
Beginning with the anisic lavender, bergamot and tarragon, then entering the floral heart of carnation, geranium, jasmine and cyclamen with cedar and patchouli setting the table for the base.
Oakmoss is the star and isn't merely limited to the base and is evident from the very first spray but it really shines in the drydown. Sandalwood, a touch of leather, amber, musk and tonka fill out the finale. In the end an excellent aromatic fougere and probably my very favorite.)
A caveat, I've not had the pleasure to try Patou pour Homme and my experience with Balenciaga's Ho Hang (not Ho Hang Club) is limited and a very long time ago. Before making the ultimate proclamation regarding this class of fragrance I need some time with these two and perhaps a few others as well.

Anyone who chooses Cary Grant as his avatar must be a pretty old soul himself.

Jean Patou - Eau de Patou. Eau de Cologne, 2 Floz, 60ml.

Such a treasure. I think Eau de Patou might be leading the pack to be my "beau ideal" of an eau de cologne. Just the perfect amount of freshness balanced with the perfect amount of human body smell.

Perhaps his first name is Archibald?

Agree. It's a beautiful fragrance. Such a shame it's so fleeting, but it is an Eau de Cologne. I'm a big fan of citrusy Colognes and love wearing in them in the summer. Not sure why I chose this for a rather dank, dark, cloudy, cold day in London but I just felt like it.

Incidentaly, I've been meaning to ask you. Do you think I'd like Diorissimo?

In another freak warm spell here, I'm inspired by RoRo and WarmJewel to reach for a cologne today. But there's still enough undertone of winter to justify some spices, so:

Déclaration (cologne version) 2010 by Mathilde Laurent for Cartier

Vintage only by virtue of being cruelly discontinued. Why this lovely one, among all the other Déclaration flankers? This one muted all the hot spices and buoyed the scent up with ginger and citrus, a beautiful combination. Gone too soon, and I didn't have the foresight to buy a large bottle, so my little 1-ouncer will be the end of it.

Nah don’t be fooled. I just googled best Hollywood leading actors and thought this guy looked cool and would probably have worn Cologne. I certainly haven’t been working my way through his movie catalog for years. It’s all a big Charade. I’ve been too busy Bringing Up Baby, my child that is. Although I really could use a Holiday. Maybe we’ll get in a vehicle and just drive North By Northwest until we reach “The”Philadelphia. Story says that there’s a Notorious shop over there that is under Suspicion of actually having a perfumer that still uses real ambergris. I guess at the end of the day, I’m a Male War Bride and just too Indiscreet with my mocking of my brother’s age. If I’m not careful he’ll probably try to slip me some Arsenic and Old Lace (that’s his nickname) will finally try to take me out. Fortunately we all know Only Angels Have Wings and this is all just Monkey Business.
