This one, Coeur de Vetiver Sacre by L'Artisan, is a favorite of mine. I can't get enough of it. I think it's the idea of a sweet and sour in food, the dates and the vetiver are contrapuntal, and the tea broadens the scent and smooths it over.

Today's sync is with the dashing compass that is Hommage à l'homme Voyageur by Lalique, a cardamom reflection wrapped in a brilliant forthcoming heart of patchouli, papyrus and our dear vetiver that leaves gorgeous ink on a soft mossy amber base that pays hommage indeed!

Miller Harris Vetiver Bourbon this afternoon. Switching to 1000 Flowers Réglisse Noire. Vetiver comes in late here as a bit player, it’s mainly a green, clean-musky anise/licorice scent.

I'll be syncin' in with the 1969 classic Calandre by Paco Rabanne, a shimmering green floral aldehydic sheen of rose, lily of the valley; geranium, orris and jasmine, deepened beautifully in moss heap and bits, with sweet caresses from our dear vetiver... Surely, I'm going to be rollin' in the morning dew!

Syncing with Yatagan today. It's been on my radar forever, and thanks to a generous basenoter I finally get to try it. (Huge thanks!)

Incredible stuff. Deep, rustic greenery on a bed of soft animalics. Pine needles, galbanum, artemisia, castoreum, oregano, basil, mint, vetiver, patchouli, smooth leather. The vetiver is there to pencil in a hint of sharpness from the inside out, but it’s a supporting role. Makes me think of a druid's cloak found on the forest floor. This smells more like a modern niche scent than an ancient masculine (I’d pick this over Antaeus any day), and a surprisingly balanced one. I don't find this particularly "funky" or aggressively vegetal--no filth or celery detected, and it doesn't even scream "masculine" to my nose--but I know we all perceive these things differently. Just rich, resinous, and green.

Etro Mahogany and Oliver & Co. Vetiverus today. I’m not sure if vetiver is listed for the Etro but smells like there’s some in the base.

Vetiverus is really hitting the spot today, nice lightweight spiced base. I’m hard pressed to think of this as a vetiver scent but it’s good stuff.

Phase II: Lalique Encre Noire a l'Extreme. Softer, fuller expression of the original cypress/vetiver accord from Encre Noire with added incense and sandalwood. Very similar to the original, and I like it just as much.
