Vetiver Wednesdays Sync: an invitation to a magical journey

My passion for vetiver is no secret for most of you at this point, thus why not get with me on the vetiver train, to discover (or re-discover) that noble (and often essential) ingredient, that stars in many fragrances and is at least a part of the blend in most? And what better way to keep the week going strong than with a healthy, invigorating, blast of vetiver on Wednesday to refuel until Friday?

Based on other synchronized threads, like SmokeAndSky's Weekend Sync 2021, ClockworkAlice's Weekend Sync 2022, N.CAL FR's Friday Sync, and Danny's Fahrenheit Fridays Sync, I decided to go for this thread, because who doesn't own at least one fragrance with vetiver, seriously?

Of course, vetiver-centric fragrances are more often than not masculine-leaning, but it is also a note often very noticeable in many blends, including feminine leaning ones.
Please post your Wednesday vetiver wear, whatever it is fully vetiver-centric fragrance or just a fragrance with a noticeable vetiver note in the blend. Feel free to drop a line to share how you feel about it :)

If you need some inspiration on which vetiver frag to choose, I invite you to have a look HERE or at Mythrol's very inspiring Vetiver Quest on his blog. Feel also free to join the vetiver cafe, to waste a bit of time chatting about vetiver ;)

Oooh, I'm not such a dedicated and informed fan as you, but I also love vetiver, so call me excited, I'll be joining you on Wednesdays - and maybe I'll learn something along the way, too. Maybe I won't be here every Wednesday as I still want to leave some time for my beloved vanillas, citruses, ambers and whatnot, but a Vetiver Wednesday sounds good!

That's great to hear. Vetiver pairs very well with amber, citrus and vanilla ;)
I did a lil' edit to the OP, to list your Sync thread 2022 :)

I already know it pairs wonderfully with citrus, but I think I'll need your suggestions where it's successfully paired with vanilla along the way! (Maybe not immediately, I think I don't need a new perfume right now :D)

Thanks for adding the 2022 thread! It's the Friday Synch though, and is not yet active, but actively waiting for synch ideas and opinions. Oh, and it's not mine! Its whole BN's, just like current Friday Synch ;)

Haha!... or maybe you do :devilish:

You might want to try:
Miller Harris - Vetiver Insolent (vanillic elemi, on an earthy vetiver base - very unisex imo)
Jo Malone - Vetiver and Golden Vanilla (similar to Diptyque Vetyverio EDP, with vanilla in place of rose - unisex leaning slightly feminine)
ELdO - Fat Electrician (creamy vanilla and chestnut - leans feminine imo)
Dior - Eau Sauvage Parfum (the stong citrus top makes of this one leans masculine, but just 'lean'. No old-school masculinity like the original EDT)

I may just wear some vetiver essential oil later. The only other vetiver I have is Guerlain's. I wore about 120ml of it, and then for some reason just started to not enjoy it very much. I do have Vetiver Tonka coming in the mail, so hopefully that one sticks around.
Ohhhh that sounds interesting!!! Could I please ask you to educate us more on that in the vetiver chit-chat thread, and to please list a few currently available oils in the vetiver list thread? I'll add those, since it's my next step: vetiver oils.

Thank you, that's a great list of fragrances to try!
And I do have a sample of Fat Electrician - thank you for reminding me of one of my favourite scents from ELDO's sample set! I should wear it again sooner.

I’m in!
I recently got a sample pack from Jacques Fath, and today I wore le Loden. A fantastic vetiver, and I immediately ordered a full bottle. Both easy to wear and clearly a vetiver ”soli-grass”, and if forced to describe it, I think a mix of Vetiver Insolent, Sycomore and a dash of Violet by Boclet would come pretty close.

Out of all the vetiver-centric scents I have, Vetiver Insolent is the only one I just can't get to work for me. I got it for a great price and assumed I would dig it... listed notes are all good to me. I can't figure it out... maybe something synthetic. I actually have similar issues with Terre d' Hermes.

I'm actually digging on Hiram Green's Vetiver right now. It's understated but really elegant. I see comparisons to Guerlain's Vetiver, but I've never tried it. HG Vetiver is an easy wear, as compared to Private Label (which I love), is a bit of a harder sell when around others.

Count me in too, as long as you don't mind if I just use it as an excuse to wear Sycomore every Wednesday.

😉
You already have joined de facto, Cook.Bot!
We often tend to forget that N.19 (your sotd) is not only about galbanum and iris, but also vetiver which plays an important role and very noticeable in the base ;)

I'll definitely join with No. 19! I'm all stocked up now with both vintage extrait and EDT. Just bought the EDT yesterday.

I have plenty of vetivers and not enough incentive to wear them, so count me in on this highly organic venture.

I will start off with Thymes Vetiver Rosewood, a soft, unisex ,vetiver cologne, allegedly for women, but easily worn by a man. Bought at a clearance sale, a "good buy", in retrospect. Brief moments of Tokyo by Kenzo shine through, as it creates a nice warm skin scent.

I'm appreciating the dedication to vetiver threads. I have a couple things I could wear - one full bottle with "Vetiver" in the name (Elie Saab Essence No. 6) and a sample of Villoresi Vetiver. For perfumes with vetiver that don't mention it in the name, I need to work on picking it out.

Hoping to use this thread to learn more of the category. I’m interested in the note because I love green, rooty, and spicy notes. Yet somehow, Vetiver is not highly-represented in my collection.

Got a slew of vintage vetivers that I can choose if that is appropriate for this sync.
Not only appropriate, but also encouraged!

That's exactly where the fun starts, and why I offered this thread... to give attention to the vetiver note in blends (mostly the ones without vetiver on the label), to have us realize how important and ubiquitous this ingredients is in fragrances.

Glad to hear, and I'm sure you'll fall in the rabbit hole with us!
Also another couple of vetiver threads are linked in the original post of this thread, should you want to have a good intro :)

I just saw this so I'm a day late but I happened to wear Hermes Vetiver Tonka today. I'll sync up next week!

Revisiting this after not having worn it for a few months, I'm struck by how truly novel and strange this is. Although it inspired a few imitators, I've not smelled anything quite like this before.

I think I'll do a little pre-syncing before the day is done. I still have my leftover carded samples of Chanel Sycomore EDT from the days when one can get ample of free Sycomore EDT samples at the Chanel boutique and Neiman Marcus. As I get older I appreciate this smokey dry vetiver even more. This could've been a nice office scent.
A great one!
Happy Vetiver Wednesday!
Today I'm joining you vetiverheads with Smuggler's Soul by Lush. The main star in the scent is sandalwood, but both vetiver and lemongrass are no less prominent, and the trio makes a very casual, cozy and strangely refreshing scent.
I looooove that one. Glad I also have a bottle. Enjoy!

For the evening, I am kissing a dragon:

26122799-6952.jpg

Le baiser du dragon by Cartier is a very interesting scent. Yes, it is an oriental, and yet it is quite close to gourmand (almond, some chocolate-y facets, boozy opening) - but it also feels very green thanks to some very prominent vetiver in it! (I think that the vetiver interacting with something else here is giving these barely noticeable chocolate-y facets, the effect that is also used in Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens - another goodie, but I'll leave if for another Wednesday).
Panned by Luca Turin in The Guide, by the way.

I am doing a mini-sync with @Cook.bot today in vintage No. 19 parfum!

This stuff is out of this world. I am trying to ration my bottle, but keep wanting to wear it. It wears well in the winter too, which is not helping with the rationing. I do have a bottle of vintage EDT on the way, which will hopefully help me wear the extrait less.

Galbanum + vetiver = heaven (at least for me).
