Is there a fragrance like the Dreamer that has topnotes that are also appealing?
Shouldn't there be such a fragrance?
And if there isn't why dont they relaunch the Dreamer with sexier topnotes?

I don't get the nasty opening that many people talk about on Basenotes. I love "The Dreamer" start to finish.

Boom goes the dynamite! Totally agree, a fantastic wear that garners tons of attention and appreciation. I had a co-worker (male) go out and buy it the first time he smelled it on me. I have a co-worker (female) who "requires" me to sit in her office for a few moments when I am wearing it. Aside from Rose 31 it is my most complimented fragrance, top notes or not. As for the question...none that I know of or have experienced. Not really any help to the question, but, Yankee Candle's "Soft Blanket" smells remarkably like The Dreamer's dry down.

Really? Why does everyone hate the top notes? They are sexy and intriguing to my nose. I get mostly a wet tea note, with a little tobacco behind it. Love it! But I wear in moderation as it can easily become sickly.

I agree, The Dreamer is a pleasant scent for me in its entirety as well .

The Dreamer is a rather unique fragrance, but there are various scents that denote a certain aura similar to it, specifically stressed on the smokiness of it, past examples have been mentioned on other threads.

There's Bogart PH, Versace's own Black Jeans, D&G PH, FCUK Him , Pure Havane, Annayake Tomo, Sculpture by Nikos, even Le Male and DH, among many other scents. So there's a lot you can sample.

You also ask why not a relaunch with "sexier topnotes" , if you could elaborate some more on that, it would be welcome.

Cheers

Wanted to like the Dreamer based on its popularity but it smells like one of those floral scented carpet deodorizer that you sprinkle on and vacuum up.

I always felt Pure Havane was similar to the Dreamer. Pure Havane has the cherry top notes if you find that sexy

Hate the first 30 minutes of Dreamer too, so I only use it in a layer with a frag that lasts 4-6 hours so I get the pleasant dry down of the Dreamer, which lasts 4-6 further hours after that (I get 10-12 hours longevity of the Dreamer)

Nothing I know off resembles The Dreamer.........sorry but I think layering is your best option here :)

Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme with the sticker: http://www.mytrendylady.com/img/products/products_162_650187029Pour Homme by D i G 1.jpg

This is the dreamer with better top notes. It has that cinnamon/lavander/tobbaco smell that the dreamer has except this has citris top notes. Do not get the current version:

It has been reformulated and you will be diassapointed with your buy.
The vintage will be made in Italy not Germany. It will also have a sticker.

The opening of The Dreamer that people tend to dislike only lasts 20 minutes or so. The beautiful scent that follows is totally worth it.

I've used 15 bottles of 100 ml D&G PH from 1999-2005 and I don't see ANY resemblance with The Dreamer other than both designers come from Italy to be honest !

I think the top notes to the dreamer are quite nice and interesting. I've smelled a tester that's gone off before, however, and that was horrible!

I put The Dreamer on my arm about 3 hours ago (shop tester, I don't own it) and smelling it now, it totally reminds my of a lighter version of Tobacco Vanilla.

For those who find TV too heavy & cloying, might be worth giving this a try.

I definitely agree, the top notes totally ruin the fragrance for me. Gucci pour homme 1?

Holy cow, people compare such total opposites to The Dreamer. Diesel, Fuel For Life? Gucci Pour Homme 1? Talk about 100% total opposites (though I enjoy both).

The Dreamer is one of those scents I wish I could walk into a store and sample. The only place I've ever seen it is at Ross, where it's either a blind buy or a pass, and it isn't cheap there, so I pass... but this one's high on my list of scents I'm dying to try.

Top notes last just for a few minutes, not a big deal, forget about it and enjoy it later.

Yes, the topnotes last only about ten minutes when I have a look at my wristwatch. I always hide under my bed, just to make sure nobody gets these topnotes in their nostrils. Then I jump out like Superman going DAY-DREAMER all day long. :lolk: :cheesy:

For me, Aramis Havana has everything I like about the Dreamer without the annoying top notes and floral component. Once I found Havana, I stopped caring about Dreamer. That being said, Havana is quite different than Dreamer. The similarities are in the dry tobacco component and general vibe. Imagine someone taking the soft vanilla/floral component out of Dreamer and replacing it with something very spicey and manly. That's what Havana smells like to me. Havana certainly has some strong top notes that can get annoying too, but they are completely different than those that I find problematic in the Dreamer, more old-school manly. It's an amazing fragrance. I would recommend checking it out.
