Van Cleef and Arpels PH (1978)

Is the current formulation of this classic worth a try? Seems it can be had for a very fair price if you shop around.

The pyramid looks very promising, but how does longevity, sillage and projection rank with this juice?

I have two other frags from the same year that are favorites in my collection.. RL's Polo, and Azzaro PH. Both of which are current formulas.

In your opinion, could it hang with these classic powerhouses?

Current VC & A PH in leaf pattern box (current formulation!) is imo way beter (and certainly stronger!) than current Azzaro or Polo which are both pretty weak, especially the Azzaro compared to their vintage incarnations. VC A PH is very strong and lasts all day and is imo a powerhouse.
This latest version is pretty close to vintage and a tad better than previous 90's formulation in the all black box with different lettering on the bottle and packaging.
Blind buy worthy regarding strength and projection, but you just must like the smell of it (a slight soapy, flowery but very masculine leather, which I do a lot hence it being in my Top 10)

Slayerized, thanks for your input. I am pretty much sold on this frag, even more after your description. I did some shopping and found it for about 23usd shipped (100ml tester) not a bad price for a blind buy.

Yeah, it was one of my most worn fragrances in 2014 (I got 3x 100ml of this stuff and gave it at least 40 wearings I think).
I do not get an old world vibe out of it though. To me it smells pretty classy (because of the rose mixed with the not heavy leather) and after 1 hr its strength has reduced a lot compared to the heavy opening blast which makes it pretty versatile imo.
