I love the new additions to the MLK lineup and especially was interested in the Grand Soir which is more of an evening wear versus the Petit Matin which I think might be more universal and more upside in terms of versatility....

What say you?

I like Petit Malin a lot and recommend it. Grand Soir although being a wonderful fragrance is sweet and I can not use it as often. I would only suggest Grand Soir to someone looking for an amber + benzoin masculine fragrance. These two are quite different. I prefer Petit Malin for how versatile it is and can wear it more often, but happy to have both.

It's a very versatile perfume. Daily wear.
I would say it's from his B grade releases.
A grade being Pluriel, Absolue pour le Soir &a few others
C grade being Amyris

But a C grade MFK is still considerably better than A grade from other brands.

Grand Soir is a big thumbs down. A cheap and mainstream type of amber.
Petit Matin is a thumbs up. I wore it three times and twice I got a compliment. From the other fragrances it smells close to Diptyque Eau des Sens with a detergent type of orange blossoms, though Petit Matin is more lemony, more complex and more intense.

Awesome ! I think I will be purchasing....I bit the bullet and got Spice and Woods and I'll be adding this gem to my collection too...

What was the cost of Petit Matin ? Or where can I get it the cheapest ?

Thanks again !

I've been wearing this on and off for a couple weeks now. I like it a lot.

It's understated. There's nothing amazing or jaw dropping about Petit Matin, and in some ways it could even be considered boring. But it smells so nice, fresh, and clean that it's really perfect to wear any day. I don't always want to have something deep and complex going on--Petit Matin is great for those days.

Yes, did end up purchasing a bottle....Never looked back....Great stuff. Lemon mixed with fresh lavender? What could be better...Longevity and sillage are both above average for me....My next MFK purchase will probably be Aqua Celestia....Can't wait to sniff that one...

I got a bottle too, shortly after this initial thread. Nice stuff, so easy to reach for. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and hasn't let me down yet.

I bought a bottle too. I think Petit Matin is wonderful. It's definitely in my all time top ten by any house.

I get citrus, lavender and soap, rounded out by a warm amber. The combination is a bit surprising in that it seems so common, yet it is uncommonly good. I have a feeling it would be a great scent for a date because it's clean, yet the amber in the base leaves skin smelling kind of cuddly. It's the sort of scent that smells fresh and clean in the air, but it has an underlying richness and sweetness (though not too sweet) that can be alluring. It's not a scent that says "I'm trying to smell sexy." It's a scent that says "I'm a man you'd like to get to know." I had a date describe it as safe. I asked if she meant boring and she said "No. I mean, it smells like the kind of guy that makes a girl feel safe, y'know?" I kind of see what she meant. Petit Matin is a modern take on a classic smell. To me, it's like MFK too Eau Sauvage and swapped out the herbal aspects for soap and amber... and it works. And as FSU said, performance is outstanding. I get moderate projection (I wouldn't want huge projection from a scent like this), and longevity is excellent. 3 sprays, 12+ hours, and then much longer as a marvelous skin scent.

Thumbs up! WAY UP.

Agree with everything L'Homme Blanc Individuel says above; count me a fan of this one. It is not daring, bold, but just feels... right. It is a perfect work scent, everyday scent. If I were just a normal consumer of perfume, this would probably be the one that I have.

I just got my bottle of the new Aqua Celestia in the mail a couple days ago, and with it I requested samples of Aqua Vitae Forte and Petit Matin. I know AVF is well regarded in the community but of the two Petit Matin just hits the mark for me, it's excellent in all aspects that I judge a scent on - overall smell is fresh yet comforting and very well blended as usual from MFK, longevity easily is 8 hours plus and projection moderate as I don't usually like LOUD fragrances. I also liked AVF but don't think I'd buy it however Petit Matin is already making me consider a full bottle.

I've read a couple comparisons of Petit Matin to Creed Jardin D'Amalfi - does anyone get that similarity?

EDIT: Just wanted to mention that this is my SOTD as well and was already complimented on it, so of that's important to people Petit Matin seems to get the job done there. MFK is one of my favorite houses and I also have and love Lumiere Noire Pour Homme, Grand Soir, Baccarat Rouge 540, Masculin Pluriel and the brand new Aqua Celestia - all are excellent and I could possibly see Petit Matin joining this group in the future.

How strange and amazing. I posted earlier today that I was sampling Petit Matin today, and that it did indeed remind me of Jardin d'Amalfi of all things. And now I just read this post.

So, yes, count me as someone who definitely smells the similarity. The Creed is stronger and has the great apple note, but the overall smell to me is in the same ballpark. The Creed, of course, costs significantly more.

I will join all the others here, in that I think I'm going to have to have a bottle of this one. It's really lovely and has good projection and longevity for the type of fragrance it is.

I'm just now getting into the MFK house and I'm really enjoying it.

This type of freshly plays along the classic cologne vibe.

Would love to thoughts and preference for
Petit Matin
Neroli Portifino
Bergamont 22
Jardin d'Amalfi
Cologne Indegible

On smell, and performance (since fresh fragrances tend to be not that long lasting)
I'm guessing the petit grain or neroli notes are the common thread between these fragrances; though of course; they are all different.

Since writing that 5 months ago, I have definitely changed my mind. Not sure where I was getting a similarity, but after buying a bottle and becoming quite familiar with Petit Matin, I no longer smell a significant similarity.

Between JdA and PM, I prefer JdA, but Petit Matin would probably rate as my favorite MFK fragrance, currently.

I've read a couple comparisons of Petit Matin to Creed Jardin D'Amalfi - does anyone get that similarity?

Late to the party. PM and JdA stand on the same shelf, given that both are citrusy summer fragrances. But that's where the comparison ends.

- PM has a fresh aldehydic citrus opening followed by a soapy neroli. Very uplifting, and it "wowed" me for how "sparkling bright" it is, the first time I smelt it - despite its simplicity.
- JdA is the quintessence of citrus, fresh, very close to what one could smell when walking on the upper paths covered by lemon trees in the heights of Amalfi and its coast. (My father is from Amalfi btw). That said, while the quality is top notch and the blend perfectly executed, it's very classical in its structure, and a bit one dimensional. Perfect, but no "wow" for me.

I love both. I may get my hands on PM should I bump on a good deal. That said, as much as I value the beauty of JdA, I think that its price point is ridiculous. Indeed, at discounters, PM's price tag is less than half the one of JdA for the same amount. People often say that something is worth the price that people are willing to pay for. Well, I'm not ready to pay $400 for just 2.5oz of juice that despite being of great quality, has no "wow" factor. The demonstration of the power of branding and marketing.

Honestly, after having smelt many frags of all price points, I can tell that - in my book - MFK PM is worth $120 max (and I'm sure I will find a deal around or under that at some point), and Creed JdA worth $150 (but I'm sure there will be no way to find a deal around that anytime, and thus, it's a hard pass for me on that one).
