The Beefcake Thread: Scent a Favorite Man

And I didn't think of his character as very suave, but almost nebbishy, and so reticent. I'm going to say something very understated, like an after shave, or just a sandalwood soap. In that vein, Egoiste would work well too.

Are you saying that Egoiste is a nebbish scent? Somebody hold me!

The King - scent ideas?

This seems an obvious choice:

Supposedly, his first fragrance was this one:

I have a bottle of vintage Lenel for Men; can’t say it made any great impression on me. Elvis eventually graduated to Brut, though I’m sure he occasionally doused himself in other colognes. But he’d probably have been happiest in stuff like Old Spice and English Leather: meat-and-potatoes American stuff.

I like Elsha 1776 for E.

I don’t think I’ve seen Pierce Brosnan here yet … I always had a crush on him growing up.

He’s evolved into a sexy Colonel Sanders.

Of course I watched 'In the Mood for Love', okay wow, thank you for that.

Isn't it marvelous? There's a sort of sequel to it called 2046 which is good, but not nearly as good as Mood, which is a small masterpiece.

The King - scent ideas?

I think Elvis got a couple of mentions here but not really full coverage. Most of the historical sources point to him wearing Brut, which seems appropriate to his era and background. And Grayspoole found a small museum in Pennsylvania that has a toiletries travel case they claim to have belonged to him that contains it, along with a couple of other bottles we couldn't identify.

Has Michael B. Jordan been mentioned so far?

Yes, he got covered upthread.

I'm glad you said it first. I was a little embarrased to admit it.

He looks like he's fourteen years old.

He looks much different now - he’s currently 45.

I chose the old Gerard for purely shallow reasons. He didn’t age very well IMO, as the other men in this thread have.

(Sorry, G)

The “old” Gerard Way was indeed a very good looking young man. For him, I would think of something dark, leathery, Incensey, and suitably “emo.” Perhaps Peau de Bête? Reptile seems apt, although I’ve never smelled it.

Given the photo of Way in an Iggy Pop t-shirt, holding an Iggy album as well, made me think of what perfume would Iggy wear.

Having posed the question, I find he has a celebuscent —the 2014 Paco Rabanne Black XS. No idea what this smells like but the concept seems a bit...banal.

I was thinking Iggy might wear something completely unexpected, like a feminine heady floral or a dandyish violet.

He’s the lead singer of a band called My Chemical Romance, which recently reunited in 2019 after about a 6 year break up, much to my angsty delight.

Ah. Yeah, I’ve heard of the band, of course, but I couldn’t name anyone in it. To be fair to MCR, I think of anyone who came our after 1990 as “new.” I hadn’t meant to ossify this way, but here we are.

Brilliant! I could absolutely see Iggy wearing a brashly feminine scent as well.

Now that's a wealth of 80s photographic evidence of sexiest men alive beefcakeness @Adonna! I don't even recognise Mel though, who IS that?!

And I had forgotten that Andy Gibb ever even existed.

Pretty funny that at one time they had a runner-up for "Sexiest Big Guy." I'll bet John Goodman has that framed somewhere.

Adonna, where do you live that you're bumping into Erik Estrada and Tom Selleck on the regular? A retirement community?

This is my very favourite movie ever. The storytelling! The melancholy! The longing! The cinematography! Perfection.

yellowtone: I can see why it's your favorite movie. It's so beautiful.
Cook.bot: Yes, It's amazing to find a film that good.
Thank you for 2046 and Mood. I will be sure to watch them.

Most of my fictional beefcakes are from books, so they only exist in my head. Movie beefcake, that's a whole different thing.

Terence Stamp - Bois Mystérieux

Oh yeah, I could definitely see that. I also like older Terence Stamp, circa The LImey. For that he'd need some Moschino Pour Homme, or maybe some Azzarro.

Every time I think about that movie, I wind up thinking how criminally underrated Leslie Ann Warren has been for her entire career.
