I was on the brink of being irresponsible, tempted by the sale and a long time curiously about this brand (in no small part from your reviews). But I talked myself off the ledge. Even if I end up loving them I really don't need another brand with an extensive catalog to get into, having just started to dive into Hiram Green and the very expensive but impressive Profumum Roma. That and several of my favorite brands have come out with new releases as of late. The floodgates seem to be open following the production backups caused by COVID.

But we shall meet another day TRNP, maybe I'll dip my toe in if Scent Bar NYC has any of them on the shelf next time I stop by.

I’m working the other direction, from TRNP through Profumum Roma (I’ve got a couple) to Hiram Green. Before those, AbdesSalaam, who isn’t getting so much buzz of late but remains an exceptional “all natural” perfumer with a very different aesthetic from Teone Reinthal, one I find equally idiosyncratic and appealing.

I haven’t gone down the other popular BN rabbit holes—Areej, Bortnikoff, Slumberhouse. I have samples, though, so we’ll see eventually if I agree with the fans that they’re worth the exorbitant price of admission. (Don’t count on it—I’m a cheap bastard.)

1 oz. sprays of:

Cocobolo
Black Spruce
Arcadia
François
Fruit of the Moon
Jasmine Yuzu
Lemon Blossom
Magus
Rose Potion
Tallemaja
Violet Firefly 22
Winter Light
Pagan Oudh
That's old school Basenotes style 😀.

There's one overlooked hidden gem in your list that I loOove.

What other TRNPs do you own besides the ones on this list?

Winter Light.

Blind buy for me. Just looked like we'd click, and the price was right, relatively speaking.

I tend to favor Sacred Ground over Embers, although the perfect sandalwood fragrance would be a mix of both: the drydown of the former; the opening of the latter.

Sacred Ground is actually a decant I got from zerofox, who appears to have left the building; the rest are "real" bottles.

I haven't compared it to Embers, but your comments make sense. I just edited my SG sample post into a review for the directory.

Hope that you will love Winter Light as much as I do. It can be easily overlooked on first wearing, same happens with D'Aguilar, but It's Teone as her greatest.

Nice review. As a random comment, I'd say that Mysore is actually my least favorite sandalwood, I always dislike its drydown, being the indonesian and even some parts of the australian varieties more to my liking. Shadow by JAR is the best example you could ever find of the latter, and even Il Dieci, a fragrance that people claim, I disagree, that it is mostly composed with Mysore. Santal Galore for the former I would say. And Embers as the ultimate Mysore fragrance alongside Vintage 84.

Anyway, Teone is currently the best and most prolific artisanal perfumer in the world.

I am wearing Attar of Roses. It is a beautiful rose and I was feeling good abt myself until my SO walked by my office and said ‘what is this spray?’ - and it was not said with adoration!!! My SO has been complaining more and more about my fragrances and because I have been wearing a lot of Teone’s work, her fragrances have been getting a bulk of complaints. This is just a push I need to stop resisting going back to the office!!

Sorry to hear this ....

Just let them know that the after-life is very likely a smell-free zone and to just kick back and enjoy life on planet earth while there's still time. ;)

My fragrances are jam-packed with plant hormones, and they contain so many sexual signifiers that are harvested from flowers that they set off a cascade of messages to the brain about fertility, allure, attraction etc.

Yeah, my rose bushes have #metoo’d me since I started wearing your stuff. And the lawn looks at me funny.

I felt remorseful about my knee-jerk sarcasm above, so humble apologies for erasing my steps and causing a glitch in the flow.

No need—I think we all took it in the spirit of good fun, as my response was likewise intended. Plus, this is where the BN chapter of your fan club hangs out, so you know we'll give you the benefit of the doubt!

I enjoyed reading it.. But I must point out @clarrisochka said "SO" which I believe is "significant other" and not a work colleague making the complaints, so they'll have to be a bit more diplomatic in their response. 😆

Wow, my package just showed up and I’m immediately smitten. Testing out Cocobolo first, it’s wonderful and complex, It opens like an Appertivo but now is going in a Rising Mysore esque direction, smooth sandalwoody orangey but much better and very (!) rosy, the rose patchouli sillage is unreal and keeps pulling me in.

Even off of a strip the Path and Magus are both fantastic. Absolutely beautiful stuff..time to go down the rabbit hole and place order #2 🫠

I am loving Jacques soooo much - I am admittedly crazy about Shalimar at baseline so this is not a stretch however I particularly love the gorgeous florals in its heart, resting on a wonderfully dry vanilla/benzoin base - I have not smelled the modern iterations of Shalimar but this totally delivers on the depth of the base in my vintage bottles while adding in the brightness of the citrus top and lushness of the floral heart. It's not on sale but dont let that stop you from grabbing a bottle! Totally worth it and more.

I liked the new Night Song so much I had to make sure I grabbed a bottle. Since shipping was free, I did a blind buy of the new Bitter Sweet and requested a sample of the new Mokaya.

Initial impressions are great. I think mokaya is especially improved over the last version, the chocolate is fantastic. Bitter Sweet's bitter orange note is long lasting and strong.

What are your thoughts on Bulgakov? I'd like to hear some opinions from people here who have at least sampled it, both about the regular and the LE edition.

Taken from my Instagram:

@teone.reinthal Rosa Limited Edition.

The story of Rosa. I really enjoyed the original I owned. Teone’s rose perfumes I seem to be able to cope with and enjoy. It did get a bit too rosey though and I ended up selling it on.

Not ever expecting to get on with this one, my sample sat to the side. I sprayed it. And sprayed it again. Fuck me! This is what I needed! It’s amazing how some small tweaks can change a scent quite drastically.

It’s a beautiful classic scent (read the inspiration about the 1930’s Havanian hot lady), very potent, super rich. The added civet I’ve found gives it that animalic touch that works so well in Bulgakov LE. There’s still the crushed rose petals and stems in there like the OG, they just have something to bring a little dirtiness out in them now. The longer the wear, the naughtier it gets.

Teone makes some very sexy fragrances. Tantra was another rose based, extremely sexy scent, and this works just like that did for me.

Just read what it’s packing:

Limited Edition ROSA eau de parfum featured notes:- Rose Otto, Magnolia, Tuberose, Narcissus, Rosewood, Cedarwood, White Copal, Copaiba Balsam, Peru Balsam, Tolu balsam, Venezuelan Tonka Beans, Styrax absolute, Tobacco absolute, hand-tinctured Civet and Red Sandalwood (for colour not scent).

My second Teone shipment arrived Monday with Kodama and Polynesia. Kodama is still absolutely wonderful and I love it, truly beautiful and comforting, it’s one of those scents that makes me feel at peace and comfortable with myself, especially in the far drydown with the greenish silvery oud.

Polynesia, I’m still working on fully “getting”. I absolutely love the top with the coconut-cakey frangipani, very tasty and tropical in a non-obvious way. But the drydown goes a little heavy into the labdanum/vanilla/cedar territory that smells a touch too familiar to me, I found myself getting a little tired of it. Im wondering if those tropical notes will stick around a little longer if I wear it outdoors in the heat.

Yeah I definitely would. It’s the whole point of the perfume as well. “The Love Affair”. Burning passion, erotic hunger, it’s one of Teone’s most sexual fragrances for me.

But like I always say, we are all different and have our own interpretations of things.

This was my Instagram post about the LE version which is now easily one of my favourites from Teone:

@teone.reinthal Bulgakov Limited Edition.

Right here we go. The story of this perfume in my life:

Teone sent me a sample of this with the other Limited Editions with one of my orders in 2021. I remember enjoying this and thought I’d grab it on a future order, then sent it on for someone else to try.

Fast forward a year I still hadn’t bought it and had another sample with my order. My mind clicked, on first sniff. And I kept going with it, day after day with this sample on some part of my clothes or skin. Very rarely that happens. Days, weeks, I couldn’t get enough!

I spoke to Teone about it. She said have you read the book it’s inspired by? No I hadn’t, but now I want to! £2.57 from ebay for a copy of The Master and Margarita. Started it last week and wear the perfume whilst reading to set the tone.

So my bottle’s now here and that’s getting sprayed daily. You find fragrances in life that are faultless. I have plenty of them, this joins that group.

Upon first spray there’s a sort of subtle spice and smokiness for me. Soon to be joined by the impressive array of ouds. Absolutely packed with them adding a ruggedness to the already impressive start. With the tobacco now working it adds a sort of “gloomy” feel. Obviously not in a bad way for how it smells, but taking in to account what the perfume is representing, Teone has captured this impressively well.

Further in to the wear we are now at my favourite part. It’s leathery, resinous, smokey goodness at it’s best. That added castoreum is just unreal. Gives it such a beautiful animalic haze that works so well.

I am so happy to have this. Once again Teone has bottled a whole story, a scene, a time in history, her works are perfect for exactly that.

@teone.reinthal Sliabh na Caillí.

Still so impressed with this. Very intrigued when Teone announced it. My thoughts about my sample are on here from the other month . I sent it to my friend Helen @lowkeyhighflyer who then also ended up buying a bottle 😁

It is by far the most unique scent I’ve tried from Teone. Like in my previous post, this is a moment in time captured in perfume.

That damp, almost musty opening is superb. It’s hard for me to explain without it sounding awful, but it reminds me of “Work Sweat”. When your clothes are wet through with sweat after a long day of grafting, you’ve been rained on a few times, working outside, in a forest, in a quarry, something like that. It’s that clean sort of sweet/salty vibe I get from it so much in the opening.

This perfume gets better the longer you wear it. It becomes attached to you. Works with your own skin and becomes part of you. There’s such a perfect animalic vibe it gives a few hours in. It’s not rough or super dirty, it’s subtle and even quite soft, yet so unique and appealing. I call it the “Human” smell. It’s what a human smells like when they aren’t fresh out the shower, they haven’t been to the gym for 5 hours, just a normal, natural person smell. It’s incredible. It’s like the epitome of the smell I crave the most. The scent of my partners skin in the morning after a nights sleep together.

My blabbing will never, ever do this justice. If you want to try something different, I kid you fuckin not, this is epic!
