Sounds great N.Cal! Thank you for keeping synch days going ...

One suggestion from me is to occasionally add a specific perfumer to group 1.

"I've been on a ______ kick recently"
A note, house, perfumer, fragrance or anything that you've been particularly into recently. Share you enthusiasm or discoveries.

Citrus other than the fruit
Notes or ingredients derived from any part of the plant other than the flesh or peel of the fruit. Can contain fruit or peel notes, but should also feature blossoms (e.g. neroli, orange blossom, etc.), leaf, petitgrain, etc.

Already some great suggestions! I've been thinking about syncs and have a couple of suggestions. I won't be offended if you don't pick any of these, as I'm mostly just thinking aloud.

For #2, how about we try and hit up each of the 7 continents throughout the year? It could be a note, perfumer, inspired by the continent, or a house located in the continent?

Another popular sync is something from Guerlain. How about Mugler?

Other suggestions I thought about include...

- A trip to the zoo. Wear something musky or animalic.
- Halloween. Wear your most terrifying fragrance (something you are/were scared to wear)
- Wear your loudest fragrance...something with outstanding projection and sillage

Cheap celebrity fragrance Friday. Not eligible are fragrances with celebrities advertising for them: Clive Owen with Man, for instance, isn't a celebrity frag; Justin Bieber's Girlfriend, however, is.

I also like the idea of Fake Frag Friday, but I can only think of a couple examples: Sex Panther from Anchorman, which has a couple (awful, I'm sure) versions out there, is my favorite example. Obviously it would be ridiculous to go out searching for fake frags (wasting good frag lucre on them too) as they then would obviously be real.

I've always associated many fragrances to colors, so maybe: "A fragrance that smells red/green/white/blue/gray/etc."

A few others I thought of are:

- The bottle you've owned the longest
- The bottle that is nearest to empty
- The most recent acquisition
- One you've never worn to work before (a lot of self-employed/WFH folks here though...)
- Your favorite bottle design

So nothing too unique nor original, just throwing stuff out there. I only recently began participating, so I apologize if these have been done to death over the years.

For #3
Spring Green - your favorite green smelling fragrance (not the color, but the smell of spring)
For #1
Wear a fragrance that contains a challenging note for you.
Wear something from your birthday decade.

Here's a couple that don't really fit any of the above categories. If you don't use them, that's cool. One came to me when we did the Synch Friday when we posted art pieces that went with our scents. Could we do the same thing, but with music?

I also really enjoyed speculating about what different sci-fi characters would wear. I wonder if we could do something "a characters from your favorite film" (or one of your favorites. Something like that)

I think sometimes you could maybe combine (4) with other numbers. And when (because I suspect it will be a when, not an if) we do Rose Day, I nominate PerfumedLady as the person to whom we dedicate it.

And I am loving Italian Friday and kind of hope we could extend it to a week, both to encourage folks to explore the beauty that is Italisn perfumery, and also to honor our sizable and very productive Italian Basenotes contingent.

Love these suggestions. They are very open and encourage discussion. But I also love the tightly defined synchs that really make you think. "The Friday Synch makes you think" .

Same. It's nice to have a mix. For the open ones I like reading about why a poster made a certain choice and with the first one especially I was hoping for people to share the love. I enjoy it when people can wax lyrical about something they like or love. The more challenging ones are also great because, as you said, they make one think and even research a bit. I can't always fully sync and have to use some logical twists to make a scent for sometimes, but that's part of the fun too.

Roses for me? How lovely, thank you thediamondsea! What an honor!

I have a note in mind to dedicate right back at thediamondsea too-iris. I'm an iris lover as are most of my closest BN buds but I believe thediamondsea is our most recent fanatic. And she has purchased some stunning iris scents lately. May we please dedicate iris day to her to welcome her to the iris lover's club?

I always have to ask for the "Panned by The Guide" sync. I love this one, and I think Mr. Turin actually peeked in on us last year. I know he did approve of the idea. This is one that gets a lot of participation.

Outside of those, my thinking is much like Foustie's. Very specific themes tend to make for good discussions as we sometimes have to really stretch to come up with something. As we have no hard and fast rules, we usually interpret these strict themes as best or as close as we can. And it's in the varying interpretations that the fun (thinking) happens, IMO.

Great suggestions so far; I'm loving them all! And a big thank you and a  to N.Cal for taking this on! You are greatly appreciated!

Aww . . . Thank you, PerfumedLady! I do love iris in all of its sometimes crabby, difficult forms. And I guess it loves me back, because that bell jar of ISM fell into my lap from the sky on exactly the right day on the right month of the whole year. Iris Karma! Who knew?

I second the panned by the Guide day. That was hysterical. I think Luca Turin's (positive) reaction to it is somewhere in the LT AMA thread.

As for my nominations I have a few that I want to add:

Vernona - I would like to nominate her for a sync day. A genre that I have in mind would be Gourmands. She went through a phase of discovering lots of gourmands back in 2015.

Jon Rodgers - I would like to nominate him for a sync day. I was thinking of something like Creed since he's passionate about this house. Maybe a Roja Dove?

Teardrop - I would like to nominate her for a sync day. Perhaps a sampling day? Wear something from Neil Morris fragrance?

In Category 2 - Based on the ideas of wearing fragrances from each continent and Around the World in 80 Sprays, I'm thinking of splitting that specific sync into multiple Sync Fridays. 7 Sync Fridays, each one corresponding to a different continent.

That could work. I also want to make sure we get Italy in again!

I think teardrop's day should definitely be a white floral day. And definitely gourmands for Vernona. We also need to dedicate a day to Foustie, don't y'all think?

Also, why not a few cities? Say, London (of course), say one in the States (New York or LA would be good), a Moroccan city of someone's choice who knows what they're doing, and of course a city in India, and I dunno--Berlin? Or Vienna (one of my favorite places!). Or Rome!!

Did we do a Bastille Week synch this year? I can't remember.

And let's do try to work in a British house synch. There's a lot of action there these days.

A few specific houses I'd like to see get some love: Nicolaï, Etro, Caron, Parfum d'Empire, Papillon, Lubin, Krizia, Eau d'Italie, Oriza L Legrand, 4160 Tuesdays, and Stephane Humbert Lucas 777. The noses behind all of these get my votes for individual noses, along with my boyfriend D Ropion and my good friend M Roucel. And I know everyone loved the Frederic Malle day. And the Guerlain day and the Chanel day and the vintage day(s). OK. I'll stop.

7 continents sounds like a great challenge! What would wear for Australia? How about Antarctica? Maybe something like Berlin Im Winter for Antarctica. But what smells like Koalas? Maybe there's a Eucalyptus frag.

I like to commemorate the change of seasons. How about celebrating Solstice and Equinox Days with quintessential spring, summer, autumn and winter scents? The dates don't fall on Fridays so the sync would be on the Friday of the week when the solstices and equinoxes occur. Thank you.

What sweet serendipity! Iris Karma must be the best kind! I immediately thought of you and iris upon reading that we could make dedications. I'd spotted you in your 19 Poudre and Dzongkha lately. Then, I saw your ISM buy, OMG! And so nice to read it was a meant-to-be purchase! Anyone who can wear ISM and Dzongkha, which are expert-level challenging irises IMO, definitely has serious iris chops!

I think I have an idea to dedicate to Foustie! N.Cal, I haven't told you this but the reason we know the gorgeous Doe in the Snow is because of Foustie. I haven't even had the chance to tell her this yet! As her sister-in-l'eau, I like to snoop in her wardrobe. When I saw Doe there, I knew I needed to try it if she liked it enough to own it. From there, you know the rest-tried, loved and bought! And that is when I started yakking about it around here, particularly to N.Cal and Jon, who also loved it and bought!

I see we already have 4160 Tuesdays sync suggested but if this is too narrow, maybe we could open it up to include all UK indie houses? That should capture the spirit of Foustie, I think! Either way, I nominate Foustie for honors on 4160 Tuesdays day!

I also don't see L'Artisan in the "Houses" list-this one I would dedicate to Whitefluffy. Last year, we combined this house with Goutal for sync. If we did this, I would dedicate the Goutal side to cestrum nocturnum.

If anything else strikes me, I'll be back! Will keep my thinking cap on.

Here's a specific but broad category-powder. Powder day could include scents that are make-upy or talc-like but also powdery gourmands, orientals, whatever your nose interprets as "powder".

After this, I'll stop with the nominations so I don't hog them all up, lol. But I'd really like to see a powder day dedicated to tdem1961. She introduced me to Sweet Dreams, the best new-to-my-nose powder scent I smelled all year! tdem knows her powder puffs.

Based on the overwhelming number of contributions from everyone, I will have to cut off the suggestions very shortly(likely sometime later today)! There's more than enough suggestions here to make a wonderful Sync Friday schedule for 2017! Many thanks to everyone who have contributed ideas! Good Work everyone!:vrolijk_26:

Hi everybody! Something just popped into my head. If you're not totally booked up, N.Cal, could we do a celebration of female noses in there somewhere? Maybe around Mother's Day in the UK or here? Just a thought.

Thanks for all your hard work!

sandalwood

This would certainly work!

Yep, Shalimar or a Shalimar flanker. Or lavender. Or both!

I'm going with Shades on that one. Since I didn't see you mention anything for Category 1 (House, Perfumer, Note, Genre, Iconic Scent) would you like this added to the list? Or instead of Shalimar perhaps Samsara or a Samsara flanker? We did have some unofficial Samsara days in the past.

Yep, I like the sandalwood rec even better. Good call, shades!

Yes, do feel free to use that idea in another category, N.Cal. Samsara would be lovely but Shalimar would be easier for more people to join, I think. Samsara only has the two flankers where Shalimar has about a gazillion. But, we do have quite a few Samsara wearers. I'll leave that decision up to you!

The complete schedule list for 2017 Sync Friday is now available at the top of this thread. The list is broken down into the four categories that I listed below. Each month has one from each category with the exception to Category 3. The months March, June, September, December have either a Equinox or Solstice that contributes to a Sync and therefore there’s a total of 16 Sync Friday for that category instead of 12. Thanks again for all of the suggestions!
