Pulled out Kiste 22 today. It hasn’t gotten much love lately but after spending almost two weeks with Black Grev it was nice to feel a reset in how Kiste smells.

The peach tea and sweet tobacco notes are just singing today. I really feel like a warm Alabama sunset at the moment.
We don't have warm sunsets. We have "holy fuck why are we living on the face of the sun", and "what the fuck i wasn't born for this cold ass weather" (about 30*F)

That's great. Wore Baque today and still going strong 14 hours later. For me, the pleasure in perfume comes from experiencing it infrequently and unexpectedly throughout the day. I don't get that with Black Grev. :/
Even this morning as I type this I can still smell black Grev on my skin. It’s deceptively Long lasting but sits close to the skin. I suspect a lot of folks are just going noseblind to it and/or need to moisturize their skin.

I’ve always felt alittle different about Alabama’s weather because it was always pretty temperate in my experience. I could do without the gnarly tornados and storms though. My grandpa had a cow farm in Athens but I’ve never ventured too far south of that area. Mostly just Huntsville and Athens. I’m sure the humidity gets way worse the farther south you go.

Yep - I have no issues with longevity with BG, and I get whiffs of it all day long. Glad to see others are reporting the same after the initial disappointment from some.

The sillage is outstanding and I think that’s what makes it great. It doesn’t have huge projection which I’m fine with. It really feels all natural even though I’m sure some synthetics were used.

If I had a quid Everytime someone goes Nose blind and screams BAD PERFORMANCE REEEEE id be a very rich man
I still get a kick out of those people on fragrantica that spray something 12x and then say it disappears in an hour.

In my opinion, nothing is more intriguing than a soft trail of perfume, lingering in the air, not so strong that it annoys people, enough to intrigue. Projection is for kids and low-self esteem attention grabbers. Sillage is for grown ups and it can be damn sexy when worn right. Unfortunately, most people just want to nuke rooms, bad taste me says.

Agreed. Sillage takes patience and skill to discern which I also believe is why it’s so rewarding. Sexy is probably the perfect word to describe it.

FAR to many time the first thing that's asked is performance before something what the item actually smells like, alongside those who believe there immune to going nose blind for what ever reason

But performance is important, equally like scent profile. I am not asking for interlude level, but 8hr longevity and 6-12 inch projection is basically a must these days. All these performance boosters and musks were created for nothing? 😛

You'll get that from Black Grev. And all day smacks in the nose too.

Hmm. Definitely not noseblind. I am with you all that 1-2 sprays is the perfect amount, as you can smell it infrequently.

It has to do with the lipophilicity and volatility of the major components, as well as the base. In my review which is not yet posted, I note how BG is not particularly oily. Who knows exactly what molecules majorly constitute BG, but I’d be willing to bet they are much more volatile than those in say Baque, or, the gold standard of longevity which has been mentioned - Interlude. A nice chemistry-focused book for fellow nerds on the topic is “A Field Guide to the World’s Smells” by McGee.

If by soft trail you mean people can still smell you when you're in their direct presence without having to get really close to you then I agree. A constant assault on your senses when you're not even close to the person is only obnoxious IMO, if it smells horrible/ or overpowers everything else I could smell.

Randomly checked luckyscent and to my surprise find Fjerne in stock. Rushed to smell my sample again to decide if I wanted to purchase. Its pleasant enough but not a huge love but I decided what the heck and bought it. Now if only I'm lucky to catch Black Grev in stock..

That new top looks like a bottle stopper and gives the impression that its a splash bottle and not a spray, hopefully that's not the case and its just a cap.

If you look verrrry closely you see a feeder tube in the picture, so it’s going to be a spray.
Yeah I'd be really surprised if it was splash, just that it looks like it, kind of like the tom ford private blend decanter bottles and their top. The ball is probably hollow and the sprayer is inside of it.

I dig it too, but wonder if it'll stick. I thought he'd already settled on the nail polish bottle and was focused on the perfumes. Guess he got sidetracked haha
I had seen three different perfumes in those bottles already, and Fjerne wasn't one of them LOL

We might be gearing towards a full change of bottles - or just a few months of crazy caps.

Late to the party but I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a sample of Black Grev and wanted to share impressions. FWIW I have smelled quite a few SH but generally go more on impressions and feelings than identifying particular extracts etc. (I am not that professional yet haha).

On first blast, it is immediately recognizeable as derivative of Grev. It has the same airy and somewhat fresh character, a minty herbal menthol kind of listerine mouthwash feeling. Where it is different is if you took away the blue sort of apple-y oceanic feeling of original Grev and replaced it with almost a dark black licorice tea blend aerosolized with mint. Much less clove than I got out of OG Grev, but there is a similarity in the sense of “brown spicy.” It’s not Christmas smell but it’s that kind of nutmeg/clove/mulled thing… but imagine mulled brown listerine. It’s actually more similar to OG Grev than I was expecting, probably 80% OG and 20% new.

Middle notes is where Black Grev starts to change and develop differently, away from that cool icy clove that grev was and more into drydowns from other slumberhouses. It’s very vaguely sweet and kind of watery-thick herbal (is that the oak moss?) To me it smells somehow slightly resinous and sour, maybe hay-y or tea. I almost want to say like Sova smell washed through dry mint leaves. It’s shifted from 80% like old Grev to the opposite: now 20% old grev and mostly something new. The mid and drydown of original grev is where I eventually ended up disliking it, something about it gave me a medicinal thing that lasted too long and ended up being unpleasant while not really developing. BG is much better in the sense that it seems to have more depth and also the “sharper” or more synthetic notes have been smoothed down into a more sour sweet minty brown leafy mix. The more it dries down the more I like it, turns somewhat creamy and you totally lose the sharp mouthwash anise synthetic feeling that old grev had and that became grating to me.

Generally I found performance to be moderate to soft, it stayed close but I could still smell it at the end of the workday. Given the original and BG side by side I would choose BG. It fits more in the Slumberhouse lineup and is also a somewhat deeper and more interesting scent overall, while still being a “freshie” (at least in SH terms). I wish Josh could have just relaunched Grev as this BG version same as he did for Jeke and Ore in 2022 instead of the ultra-limited release we got.

One was posted yesterday, Blodmane. Then Zahdanne and Grev. I don’t think Zahdanne gets a release, or Blodmane tbh.

And now we have Fjerne. Always a thrill to see new bottle styles and feel sad that the flasks are no longer a thing.
Agreed. The Slumberhouse "flask" bottles as we used to call them..."still do I guess", were my favorite perfumes bottles. I was just reminded of this a few days ago when I broke out my "flask" bottle of Pear + Olive...just the perfect bottle for my personal taste. Hefty, but so nice in the palm of the hand and they are/were the perfect compliment to the colors of the fragrance inside of them. The caps could be difficult to put back on sometimes, but I guess ultimately, Josh said that putting the metal collars on the tops of the bottles were ruining his hands, or were just extremely difficult to assemble...am I remembering that correctly? Anyway, Slumberhouse "flask" bottles are still my favorite perfume bottles in my collection.
