Similar to L'Air du Desert Marocain

I was reading some of Colins reviews, and came across his LDDM review. It said something about being fairly simple and unique. Got me thinking, this fragrance does not remind me of anything else, really. Why are there no fragrances that are similar? It obviously smells good. Clones aside, I couldn't even name a fragrance to get you close. The drydown of Musc Ravageur, so the entirety of Meharees is something, but it is missing quite a bit. Are there things that are close to it? FYI, I own a bottle, don't consider it overpriced, just looking for info.

It is extremely unique. It reminded me of simpler version of Amouage Interlude Man, take away the opponax, oregano, and pepper and you basically have LADDM.

Considering how long it's been around and how successful it's been, it's quite an achievement.

I'm with Tony on this - I find aspects of the strangest scents that come close to it. Aventus, for example, for the ambrox bomb especially in the dry down which is probably what the OP picked up on with regards to Musc Ravageur.

I do think that Chergui is quite close to it. I haven't smelled this recently but I did try this a while back and got that same vibe.

In terms of something being really close to it, ACDD is the answer that probably no one wants to here. Very similar to LADDM but with a slight re-balance or should I say re-focus on some of the notes.

Au Coeur du Désert is practically a flanker (and a good one; I think it slightly improves on LADDM by adding a few extra shades to its aromatic palette).

I haven't found much like either LADDM or ACDD, and I don't think stuff mentioned in this thread (neither Chergui nor Interlude Man nor Meharees really have that much in common with them, IMO).

Gold Incense by Mancera. It's like LADDM 'light' in terms of scent, but the tenacity of it is absolutely nuclear. Well worth trying out in my opinion as it's a very nice fragrance.

I don't get any real similarity between LDDM and Interlude Man, other than maybe overall theme or tone, but certainly not in actual smell.

I suspect the only things that smell similar to LDDM are other Tauer perfumes. Lonestar Memories, for instance, smells to me like a leather take on LDDM, to some extent.

I think Puredistance M has facets, the cumin, rose and jasmine and it's quite dry and 'hot'. If it dropped the leather, the similarity would increase imo.

I should clarify that I wasn't suggesting any of those scents are close enough to LADDM or even alternatives to it.
Just that the theme of "sweet, spicy and perhaps slightly dusty and balsamic amber" is common between them and that's why I used the phrase 'vibe'.

As for ACDD, of course it's a flanker, but I bet there are more parallels between it and LADDM than with any other scent in the whole BN directory.

What's unique about LADDM/ACDD is that it's dry, smoky, ambery with a balance of cool and warm elements. Most amber scents read more "warm."

I guess in this regard, Interlude Man is an interesting suggestion as an alternative, because it reads cool-and-warm to me, too (though I don't think it really smells much like LADDM in terms of accords; it smells much denser and more complicated than LADDM).

One that I get a similar vibe from is Byredo's 1996 Inez & Vinoodh. There not the same but I do get that very dry, smoky, ambery vibe that is both hot and cold. I love both of these equally.

Depending upon my sensitivity, I get different impressions/perceptions from it. Perhaps it would be best to figure out what element you like best and then find a scent similar to that, such as the ambery/vanillilc aspect. Then you could layer that with a simple vetiver scent and see what happens. Or if you had an older "feminine" like Ma Griffe (and/or Coriandre), you could layer that with ambery/vanillic scent. But it gets to a point where unless you enjoy that kind of "experimentation," it makes sense to just buy the scent you want. It's not like it's a $500 scent, after all.

When I wore Eau Sauvage Parfum, a while back, the dry down made me think of LADDM. But I see that you have worn that and probably not made that association. I have never heard anyone else made that comparison so I might be on my own here.

I could connect Heritage to New York Intense or Bois du Portugal, if ever so slightly, but not to LADDM. It's fun how the associations differ I will have that in mind next time I wear them.

I find LADDM to be quite unique - I haven't tried the recent 'flanker' version (would like to!), but don't see any real similarity with Interlude, Chergui etc.

That said - if you like LADDM you may well like these two as well.

Another one you MAY enjoy is Balsamo della Mecca from Abdes Salaam (?) which is a personal fave - very interesting and exotic 'oriental' - quite special stuff

hm. a cross breed of Interlude and Meharees might get you something. I wonder why it is such a unique fragrance, in why hasn't anyone else done anything like that? In the dearth of blah blah fragrances hitting the market, at a pace of thousands a year, why has not one been in the same category? Instead we get freshies, aquas, aromachem bombs, concept pieces, and money grabs that have no reason to exist. Strange to me. Id assume there is something out there, just waiting to be discovered that is somewhat similar, if even by accident.

Good call here. Not really same but similar elements for sure.

LDDM is one that smells of something but is not something you'd want to smell of.

It's not that it's challenging, it simply stands out as a bloody weird thing to want to smell of. In a similar way to things that smell like a joss stick shop, of which there are a good few, unless you've got a dog that you walk on a piece of string and have a compost toilet and no tv, they aren't going to come across very well.

Came across another LDDM type fragrance today that I really like! It’s not a clone, but definitely an easy comparison for me.

It’s a little more green than LDDM, but the amber and spiciness are definitely there. I think this one is also just a bit more subdued and maybe more versatile too.

I have a sample of this (ordered from Lucky Scent) that I just recently started smelling. Very, very unique. I just get this impression that it would smell like a scent worn by a person living in the elements wearing Turquoise stone jewelry. I don't know why, but I just get an impression of Turquoise stone and an open, arid, outdoor breeze. I will be eventually buying a bottle. Not sure when though. This scent is pretty much what 'niche', artistic fragrance is all about. I get color impressions from smells, so that's where the turquoise color vision comes from.

It's my rather odd observation that this scent seems to have an almost 'Playdoh' note in it (like the child's toy) that has been sweetened a tad, almost like the sweetness you would get from a nut or seed. It's very different, but familiar, perhaps a 'clay pottery' note is in there as well?

Anyway, it's a must-have for me now.

Why aren't there many scents like LDDM? Well, that's because whilst it has quality it is not something many people would want to smell of. I wouldn't wear it. A layperson would just think you smell like a student who's spent the afternoon in an eastern style shop run by someone wearing a hand dyed baggy jumper, selling dreamcatchers and incense and has dropped a bag of spices on the floor. It's just not the style of smell many people would wear, hence why there aren't many scents like it.

I agree that LADDM has flashes or moments that call to mind other fragrances, even if it also has many more, unique elements to it. But the one thing that immediately came to mind was Bentley for Men/Intense. The quality of ingredients and blending are magnitudes better, but I get a very similar vibe. Just got a bottle and glad to own it, it’s definitely going to occupy a special and unique place in my collection.
