Should I get more fresh scents?

My wardrobe is sort of loaded with the heavier / neutral stuff. Out of a total 128(!), the following are the only fresh scents I have -

Equipage Geranium
Boy Chanel
Kouros
Un Jardin Sur Le Nil
Allure Homme Sport Cologne
Silver Mountain Water
Sel Marin
Sauvage EdP
L'Homme A La Rose
Bleu de Chanel EdP (questionable whether I'd consider it fresh - it's fresh but wears much better in cooler weather)
Prada L'Homme
L'eau d'Issey pour Homme
H24 EdP (again - questionable if I'd consider it fresh)
Dior Granville
Epice Marine
Viking (kind of fresh, I guess, but wears much better in cooler weather)

I find fresh scents to be more versatile, and my tastes have shifted quite a bit since the pandemic in favour of fresh scents. Some of my most worn fresh scents of all time that I no longer have are Vetiver Extraordinaire, Grey Vetiver, Acqua di Gio Profumo, Geranium pour Monsieur, Mugler Cologne, Cool Water, and Green Irish Tweed.

Thoughts?

I've also recently been buying some fresher scents to round out the heavies. It's nice to have variety, and a fresh mass-appealing scent is often an easy choice especially in summer.

I've recently picked up a few of the Roja PCs, they strike a nice balance, fresher and a bit more modern vs the Parfums and can be found for decent prices as far as Rojas go. I also like MFK Masculin Plureil, JV Artisan Black, and vintage Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte.

I've been asking myself this, too. Do I NEED more fresh scents? Probably not. Do I want more? Of course. (The eternal struggle.)

I realize this probably isn't helpful for your internal debate, but at the moment I'm contemplating adding a fresh green scent (or two), something like Chanel Paris-Edimbourg or Parfum d'Empire Mal-Aime (maybe Corsica Furiosa).

From your list of formerly-owned favorites, maybe pick up one of the cheaper ones and see if it scratches the itch? (Personally I wouldn't want to be without Mugler Cologne, as I tend to wear that a lot in warmer weather.)

If you do go with another freshie, maybe cover an area you find your current cross-section lacks. Unless you're not into neroli, I think maybe a new freshie with a focus on that could be different. Maybe even with neroli as part of the composition and not the full focus?
I dunno freewheeling... I often think I need more fresh scents too.

But every time I start to pull the trigger on a new fresh scent, I realize I don't wear the ones I've got that often.

I like stuff with more "personality."
There are plenty of big-personality freshies, you just haven't found them yet.

I personally think eponymous Sergio Tacchini scent smashes your head with a brick of freshness, and runs away from the crime scene on one of his own track suits.

I, too, love fresh scents but I am more into fougeres and chypres and green fragrances then into blue fragrances. I, too, think that I have too few fresh scents compared with others.

And since the warmer seasons are incoming I want to shop around for some more fresh scents. Since I don't have many Montale and Mancera perfumes, I think I will start with those since they seem to have a good bang for the buck. I will try to order samples first since Montale perfumes are controversed and they are mostly directed to the modern area of perfumery that I dislike, sweet and gourmand. But in hundreds of perfumes there must be something for me.

I might have some "me too" perfumes, but what I kind of like is to discover something that hits me with a club in the head, something I never smelled before, something daring, something that average Joe wouldn't wear, but still something that smells good. That applies to fresh scents, too.

One that is different for sure but might not match everyone's taste is Verde by Ajmal.

I find I have delved more into fresh scents as well over the last few years. It's definitely my kind of genre.
In response to your question and just like a man can't have enough blue shirts, I don't think one can quite have enough fresh scents :).

Just dawned on me my go-to dumb reach might count as a freshie, though it's suitable for all weather: Histoires de Parfums 1828. Grapefruit, pine, eucalyptus, pepper, vetiver, nutmeg, cedar, and some light musk & incense in the base. It's kind of a bracing citrus/woody thing, and a lightly rounded cedar/nutmeg base. Some find it generic; I think of it as a quirky, fresh, versatile masculine with enough character to be interesting. Not my favorite by any metric, but this was my most worn scent last year.

Yep! Get PDM greenley. You won’t regret it.

Can still think about a quite a few fresh scents worth (re) testing if not also directly owning, naming especially but by far not only Best of Chevignon, Periplo by L'Erbolario and Yardley Citrus&Wood among the inexpensive, Creed OV, Knize Forest, Amouage Bracken Men, Sartorial by Penhaligon's, Hugh Parsons Blue among the pricier ones that still provide enough quality to justify their asking price.

I occasionally "force" myself to add a couple of fresh scents to my wardrobe just to round it out. Obviously, they're not my very favorite but a fresh scent does come in handy.

Here are some options that come to mind:

Eau Sauvage
Colonia by Acqua di Colonia
Terre d'Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver
Chypre Mousse (subtle mintiness)
Layton
Méchant Loup (supposed to be gourmand, but it feels fresh to me)

Good luck!

An interesting list!

A big chunk of what you list doesn't really fit my idea of "freshie" (I do think of freshies as "fit for summer heat" and wouldn't put stuff like Kouros and Equipage Geranium in that bucket), so I guess that bolsters the case for expanding your collection.

It's not that hard to find but unfortunately horribly expensive when you do!

I see you're wearing Ormande Man by Ormande Jayne. I have a sample of that and rather liked it but decided I didn't like it enough to buy a full bottle.
I find Ormande Man a fantastic work scent. Kind of conservative but enough edginess to set it apart a bit.

I tend to lean toward fresh scents but not so much "freshies" which I think can sometimes imply things that just smell clean or citrus.

Heavier scents are like socializing for me. If I don't do it for awhile I miss it, but after I do I need several days off to reset. I wore Le Lion last week for the occasion of my birthday. Every time I wear it I think "god this is good I need to get 10 backups immediately" and by the end of the day I think "well that was fun see you in a month Le Lion" lol.

Anyway, I'd suggest maybe fresh woods/foresty kind of things to fulfill a freshness that isn't boring. French Lover, Angelique Sous La Pluie maybe? Or how about citrus backed but endless musk like Cologne Indelible or MFK Petit Matin.

Or, Mathilde Laurent's take on freshness at Cartier is very nice and unique. Pur Kinkan, L'heure Brilliant, or L'heure Fougeuse.

I think freshies are kind of "always the bridesmaid, never the bride!" They're nice but I'd sooo much rather have ten rotating 10ML freshies than one 100ml citrus thing.

Some that I like:
Vetiver Pamplemousee - Zara
Wood Sage & Sea Salt - Jo Malone
Esprit du Tigre - Heeley
Escale en Indonesie & Escale en Haiti - Les Indemodables

Guerlain homme is a must.
Mouth watering mojito.
Calvin Klein Escape is fantastic but go for vintage.
Eternity as well is a great freshie.
Chanel bleu EDT is the real fresh version to go for.
Joop jump is good too.
Just picked up Coach for men which is a great freshie and Versace pour homme is really good too.
