Hello,

I was curious if there are any noticeable differences between the original version of M and the one that came out later, the one with the stopper?

Also, how do you find the newer M V2Q compared to the old one?

Thx

I don't know what the one with "the stopper" is. I currently have the last version they made. I have the 17ml "test tube." I first bought M around 2015 and then rebought it at the end of the run in 2022. I was considering a 60ml bottle, but the supply ran out and the 17ml was only thing available. I didn''t see any differences in the two different test tubes I bought.

I tried M V2Q and did not like it at all. It didn't seem much if at all like M. It may be a fine scent for some people, but I did not care for it. I wanted/was expecting something at least similar to M and it is quite a different direction. It was more similar to Puredistance Black than to Puredistance M.

The closest thing to M is probably Roja Fetish. They are very similar but Fetish is a little rougher, less smooth.

Yeah, it truly is a completely different scent. I think they were somewhat clear about it being different, but probably not clear enough, and they simply missed the mark by naming it as if it were a reformulation or flanker. I personally like it more than the original M, but I approached it with hopes that it would be different (I already own the original and didn't need something else that was similar). I feel like many of the negative reviews are simply a result of people expecting it to smell like the old version, and it just doesn't.

Yes, agree. It felt like they were implying it was a "modernization" or "evolution" of the original M. It was really just a whole new scent, and that no doubt played a part in my rejection of it. I did wear it a couple of times and found it slightly similar to Black (which I love). Comparison to M aside, I still wouldn't like it personally, but i can see where many could really like it.

The original M had no oakmoss, then it was added later so there was a minor change for the better. I think this note is what prevented it from being produced going forward and led to the new V2Q. Unfortunately Roja Fetish uses the same oakmoss material, so I'm not sure what Roja/Robertet plans on doing to continue Fetish.

I was disappointed by V2Q but also disappointed M is no longer, IMO it's a fantastic fragrance. I'll have to give V2Q another shot and clear my mind of the association with M. I agree its more similar in style to Black than M. I also love Black, and just got Aenotus, which I think is amazing.

I got myself another bottle of the initial release. The small version. Has anybody any idea on how to determine the period when it was made? Other than H1 17.5 ml written on it, I don't see anything else.

I was lucky enough to hunt down and purchase a small 17,5 ml bottle of "vintage M. I've still got around 10 ml decant of MV2Q.

The original M created by Roja Dove is a class on its own, unapproachable level for other brands. Well, he tried to do it again in Fetish, which is quite good, but OG M is much better and much more refined to me.

MV2Q smells like a distant cousin, a relative, a poor one. It smells cheaper and on my skin it is loaded with a nasty jasmine. After drying down it gets quite close to old M, but still, it's not the old M.

I can tell right away that Roja Dove is a master, and Antoine Lie is not on a master perfumer level - at least not to me.
