Poison

I recently tried the current Poison EDT and love it but honestly I'm a little disappointed in how tame it is after all I've heard. I find FBW but I'm wondering if I should indulge in the Poison Extrait for more of the spice notes? Can anyone give me a comparison?

As someone who wore the original Poison Esprit de Parfum back in 1985, I find it shocking, disappointing but ultimately unsurprising to hear that the current EDT is tame. I’m not familiar with the current Extrait, so I can’t help you there. Would you consider buying a vintage bottle? Might be what you are looking for.

Is this the EDT that you tried? (Just to be sure we are on the same page…)

It's a decant from Surrender to Chance, probably just the most recent EdT you have pictured above; they didn't indicate it was Retro. It's quite potent for an EdT, and a gorgeous balance of plum, spices, flowers and honey, and I adore it. Having been adopted (corrupted?) by our little community though, and it's perverse love of being more-ish, I'd love to try a vintage bottle. I've looked on eBay and have no idea what to look for to avoid getting ripped off.

If you are cautious and do your research, it is unlikely that you will be ripped off on Ebay, which has good buyer protection polices.

I’m not sure what your budget is, but you could try one of these Esprit de Parfum minis, which seem to go for about $40. That’s a bit steep for a mini, but 5 ml of Poison EDP should last a good while. Here is one such vendor…not affiliated, of course.

If you ultimately decide to buy a big vintage bottle of Poison Esprit de Parfum (wowee, the prices are steep!), read up on how to date YSL perfumes here:

Good luck!

I haven't tried the current EdT, but I tried the current extrait and though somehow recognisable, it had a note that I can only describe as like grape candy, wine gummies or something... that's definitely not how Poison smelled in the 80s.

Many people seem to like it, but I'm guessing they are the young ones who have no recollection of how it used to be.

Personally, like Grayspoole I'd recommend looking for vintage. Let's face it, vintage Poison is so powerful that a little will probably last a long time! Esprit de parfum is on my buy-list.

Totally agree ^

I own a mini of the Esprit de Parfum and can attest to how wonderful it is (and powerful). It has a tiny ground glass stopper in the mini (very well done). I wouldn't worry about getting ripped off on these I would more so inquire if the Seller stored it in a dark, cool place.
