Why don't you like it? I feel its the only fragrance I own which I would describe as perfect.

Versatile, Lasts a long time, Projects well, extremely likeable, fantastic transition from top to bottom, not generic, can be worn any season, I really could go on...

Would be interested to know, and also what the closest thing to a perfect fragrance in your opinion if Aventus isn't.

I don't like it, also don't understand the whole batch variation nonsense. I have a carded sample which I've based my opinion on but so far it's a no go. I do have a split of VIW not perfect but good. As of right now I think the most awe inspiring fragrance I've sampled is Mona di orio vanille

Re: People who don't lie Creeds Aventus

I don't like it. I don't dislike it, but I don't like it at all.

I find it rather banal and boring. The opening is okayish, and so is the rest of it.

Some Creeds have a richness (Bois du Portugal, Original Vetiver, Royal Oud) and some have a depth (Green Irish Tweed) - Aventus has none of that.

It comes across as an ultra expensive version of the average designer offering.

I don't care how much others like it because it's not a guiding factor personally speaking.

I agree that Aventus is versatile.

It neither lasts nor projects on me.

A perfect fragrance for men? There's none - thankfully.

But there are many that are as excellent as they come, charming and interesting.

I'd name a personal favourite - Rive Gauche pour Homme.

Re: People who don't lie Creeds Aventus

It's not that I don't like it.

It's more a case that there are many, many, many better smellies out there but the hype this mediocre scent generates (apparently on this forum alone) is outrageous.

It's as if a ton of 17 year old lads googled "expensive cologne to get a girl to kiss me" and wound up here. They read a few reviews written by other youngsters who are devastated at how much they've spent, but need to justify their error by posting gushing reviews. Then they go out and buy it and the merry-go-round starts again.

I wouldn't thank you for a bottle.

For me it's the smokiness and pineapple accord which i don't like.

I don't think it is a bad scent at all, and I don't think that it is a great scent either. I think it is quite mediocre. In fact it reminds me of a better version of Coty's Avatar.

I would disagree with most things you said about it. I like it. It's nice, nothing more. "Near perfect" would never even cross my mind when describing this fragrance. There would be hundreds or thousands nearer perfect than Aventus imo. To name a name.. Roja Dove's Diaghilev is pretty close. I like fragrances with complexities and interplay between notes, significant changes in scent over it's development, medium projection, and some intangible magical effects.

It would be in my very large rotation if it were cheaper. As things stand, I enjoy Lomani's AB Spirit Silver, and that's close enough for me. If you'd like to donate some Aventus to my rotation, I'll be sure to wear it once a month !

I don't dislike it, but for the price I'm inherently against anything that has "batch variations." For what the consumer pays, Creed should be able to make the damn scent smell consistent from bottle to bottle. For me the perfect scent is Fahrenheit. It does everything I want a fragrance to do: be daring, garner compliments, smell fantastic and complement my personality, and it performs well too.

You describe it as perfect, many others like me disagree (in my case, finding it highly flawed).

I like the open, but the ashy dry-down is intolerable. All-in-all I have sniffed much, much worse surely, but I find the composition average at best. That said, does any of this really matter? I mean, those that dislike the composition like me aren't going to dissuade you from loving it (nor should we), and vice versa. At the end of the day if you find it "perfect" then wear the heck out of it, I am happy for you. Me, I'll wear other compositions that appeal more to *my* tastes...

This. Word for word.

I tried Aventus alongside the Lomani and couldn't really see much difference, certainly not enough to make me pay the Aventus price.

It's entirely uninteresting. Two super obvious main notes, supposedly in some sort of contrast, drying down to a generic "musky wood." All rather nose-numbingly synthetic. Nothing wrong per se, it's just commonplace.

If I was to blind test Aventus with Lomani I wouldn't be about to tell them apart.

But its not that I don't like Aventus, I get bored of fragrances quickly. I maybe wear Aventus once a month, if that. But a few people not liking it isn't going to slow down the hype train anytime soon, its still the most worn fragrance on BN since it was released.

as someone who purchased Aventus ON RELEASE DAY from the Creed Boutique in June of 2010, and defended it on other frag forums when others dismissed it as "a can of Dole's pineapple juice", i can definitively say that threads like this is the reason people are so sick of Aventus.

if you like it that much, great. so do i. why feel the need to so blatantly shove your opinion down others throats? do you hear big fans of Midnight in Paris creating threads demanding to know why everyone else doesn't think it's the greatest fragrance ever? no.

This is like asking "Why don't you like mushrooms?" or "Why don't you like olives?" Different people enjoy different things. It's as simple as that. love Aventus. I think it's nowhere near being perfect, but I don't care because I enjoy it and that's good enough. And for the record: I hate olives and I love mushrooms.

Also, this:

I agree 100%. Though it could have been stated a bit more gently, it's the truth. You enjoy it. I enjoy it. Others don't. Does it matter? Of course not. Imagine how boring the world would be if we all enjoyed the exact same things.

I found the OP's post to be perfectly "chill", and I tend to agree with him. To me, Aventus is as close as I've yet found to a holy grail fragrance. That said, I am enjoying reading the responses to this thread, particularly those that don't descend into implied insults or sarcasm. It's an interesting thread topic.

It's not easy to describe why you dislike something, especially to someone who likes the exact same thing. I outright dislike it. I've tried multiple different samples, across different decant shops and bought over 2 different years, and I can clearly tell the smokey batch samples from the pineapple batch samples. I find all very unpleasant, although the smokiest batch is beyond unpleasant. As I've recounted a number of times here, the women around me are completely unanimous in agreeing with me -- every single one gave it a thumbs-down, included two unsolicited "ugh, what are you wearing" type comments. I've joked for a year now that that stuff is so unpleasant, that if I didn't know any better, I'd say the Aventus bandwagon is the Basenotes equivalent of a snipe hunt:

BNer #1: "Get this, did you hear Uvalde just bought another sample of Aventus?"
BNer #2: "Ha ha, he and everyone around him has insulted it, and he still hasn't caught on that we're screwing with him?!?"
BNer #1: "I know, right? The dummy keeps trying, just because we keep pretending to like it".

I have noticed that the Aventus train is mostly a Basenotes phenomenon -- it's got some appreciation on most forums, but not even remotely the same status as here -- so maybe I have just uncovered your snipe hunt :vrolijk_1: More seriously, considering Aventus's position on the "Most Female Compliments" thread, my experience has been shocking.

I do love Aventus. It's an excellent fragrance. My perfect fragrance? Well, for now it's Silver Mountain Water. It took me forever to get my nose on it because I bought Al Rehab Silver first. I thought I would hate SMW based off of my impression of this much cheaper clone but I finally went in on a split and it's now my top dog. It has everything I've been looking for in a fragrance. The only person I care wether or not they like it, is my women. If she doesn't like it? Well, I find a new woman.

Its not at all unique and overpriced as a result. There is nothing offensive about the fragrance itself, though. Its a very "safe" scent, nothing edgy about it.

Re: People who don't lie Creeds Aventus

Personally, I like it quite a bit. Of the more than 900 fragrances I have worn in the last 3-4 years, this is the only one that my wife learned the name of. Her favorite. BY FAR.

Longevity is far above average. Projection also (for those who care about that). There are more expensive scents on the market that smell far worse IMO. It's all what you like the smell of and how much you are willing to spend. I am so glad everyone doesn't like it. I actually hope it doesn't become more popular.

I can see not liking it. But I couldn't disagree more with this. Not at all unique? What smelled even remotely similar when it came out? It created a trend, it didn't follow one. It gave birth to knock-offs, it wasn't one.

Any scent that smells good is a safe scent. Any scent that smells bad is not. I don't really understand how people define "safe". If people like it, it's safe.

Re: People who don't lie Creeds Aventus

I enjoy Aventus very much, but it's nowhere near being one of my most complimented scents.

In my final semester of college, I got about the same number of compliments on Aventus and Leather Oud (yes, the same Leather Oud that people compare to a barnyard or fecal matter), even though I had Aventus the whole semester and Leather Oud for only half.

But the Aventus compliments were generally much stronger. As you may remember, there was this one lady who worked in the tutoring center that loved Aventus so much that I had to buy a Travalo and make her a decant before I graduated.

Re: People who don't lie Creeds Aventus

Without donning rose colored glasses or drinking the Creed Cool-Aid, Aventus shouts sports-frag to me, and whether it is slightly more classy or more crass version of sports-frag is up for debate. The vaunted pineapple, hardly unique, morphs in due course into a persistent but generic canned fruit cocktail. There’s some middling fake ambergris and, consistent with the sport-frag theme, some brightness from a detergent-like note and touch of Ben-Gay that slides into menthol cigarette ashes. There is no well-conceived structure and certainly no nuance to its progression, but nor is it the worst sports-frag either.

My 120ml bottle, purchased from Saks, rests unceremoniously in a storage box heaped with about 20 other fragrances that disappoint and don't even make it to my extended wardrobe.

I agree with this. And I would argue that out of the easy-wear, sport-frag types, Aventus does it really well. As my wardrobe grows, however, I like it less and less. I still smell it frequently, as I do with most of my collection, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I think it's more the hype that bugs people... and not just the hype, but the kind of hype Aventus gets. Green Irish Tweed is very popular too, but it seems to get fewer... uhm... is there a nice way to say idiot posts? No, there probably isn't, so I won't say it...

That makes sense as well. Silver Mountain Water and Virgin Island Water is also pretty underrated I've heard.

Aventus starts off great but quickly turns to something akin to sourish body odor-like scent on my skin. I did give it a fair run but it's just not for me. Glad you enjoyed it enough to post this thread but the frat boyish fan hysteria and evangelism surrounding it is a major turn off.

Not to mention the price tag. Even on Fragrancenet it's way too high, no justification to pay that for any cologne. GIT on the other hand is worth it's weight.
