PC / Windows Perfumery Program

Hello to the good people out there,
hope your all doing well and staying in good health

Can anyone recommend a professional perfumery program / software for PC windows,
looking for something professional that can store materials, formulas, advanced search, comparison features, financial and costs, inventory, etc..

I’m working now on an Ipad application, but I need something more professional and robust with advanced features of work.

Highly appreciate if you can support and recommend the best softwares and source to buy,

JB Parfum. It requires Docker, which is a monstrosity. There is also a version for Mac which doesn’t work on Intel Macs.

I don’t use it since it isn’t clear if private data is really collected in the app. For the same reason I don’t use cloud services like Google spreadsheets or iCloud to work with perfume formulas.

Of course all of them say that everything stays private, but afterwards things like ChatGPT tell us that they learned on private emails and other data. Since real perfume formulas are scarce, there is a high chance that the machine will notice them across available data.

Data Essence is what I use. It is a bit clumsy but it does the job. It only runs on windows but I have it going fine on a Mac with a windows bootcamp partition. The data is stored locally only on Microsoft SQL server you run on your own machine. It doesn't send any data to any servers.

The cost is around 3,500 pounds with an annual ongoing fee of around 700 pounds I think it is.

Actually just to be clear - I haven't analysed my network traffic to ensure it isn't sending data back to the software maker in the UK so it could very well be doing it sneakily, but the software functionality as described does not require trips to the server except to download their raw material data for every material (GHS, IFRA, etc.) - not just the ones in your formula.

I read about one program called winchem, but I can’t seem to find it! I looked everywhere
maybe it has a different name or they stopped working! But I remember reading (I don’t remember where) that it’s a very good one!

Hm the two I know are DataEssence and Formpak - both British. I think Formpak is a little more expensive.

That's a fine balance between them both, mandatory less but obviously nice and required, when various regulatory parts are implemented in the package and also it's great having the consolidated and updated view composing new fragrances.

If you like perfumery that much and if money is no problem for you, you should attend a Perfumery School, I doubt that just any computer program will be enough to become a perfumer.
If I had financial resources I would do that.
I don't know if you already have any experience or training, but from the list of products you showed, I believe it will be very confusing, I would start with fewer products and try to get to know and memorize the smells, only after a while I think you can start Do something.
For some reason, perfumers, even trained with courses, take many years to become competent professionals.
It's just my humble opinion, I wish you luck.

The main advantage is that it keeps all the regulatory stuff in check for you - it creates the IFRA and SDS documents you need. It is not essential at all for starting perfumers - a spreadsheet is good enough for most people to keep track of their formulas.

You don't need to have all the world's perfume materials in the list. You just need to enter the information of the materials you have available.
The necessary information for me are: the dilution, the restrictions between, the molecular weight, the description of the material, the percentages in the complete perfume, the total percentage of the single material in the complete formula, impact and tenacity.

Great work! I also use a Google spreadsheet to write my formulas. I have a separate spreadsheet with all my ingredients (including name, weight, price, CAS, supplier, etc), in which I import it to the formula spreadsheet using the ImportRange("sheet url") function and use it to populate the ingredients dropdown menu; when I select a ingredient from the dropdown, all other necessary data is automatically fetched, it's very useful and time-saving. If I make any changes to the ingredients spreadsheet, the formula spreadsheets are automatically updated. The only downside is the ImportRange() function's limit of 500 connected sheets (I already reached that limit a few times...), but there is an easy workaround for this.

I also add a checkbox in the first column of each line before the ingredient name, to mark as checked while I mix (you can use the spacebar to check/uncheck the box).

Ottimo lavoro! Uso anche un foglio di calcolo di Google per scrivere le mie formule. Ho un foglio di calcolo separato con tutti i miei ingredienti (inclusi nome, peso, prezzo, CAS, fornitore, ecc.), in cui lo importo nel foglio di calcolo della formula utilizzando la funzione ImportRange("sheet url") e usalo per popolare il menu a tendina degli ingredienti; quando seleziono un ingrediente dal menu a discesa, tutti gli altri dati necessari vengono recuperati automaticamente, è molto utile e fa risparmiare tempo. Se apporto modifiche al foglio di calcolo degli ingredienti, i fogli di calcolo delle formule vengono aggiornati automaticamente. L'unico aspetto negativo è il limite della funzione ImportRange() di 500 fogli collegati (ho già raggiunto tale limite alcune volte...), ma esiste una soluzione semplice per questo.

Aggiungo anche una casella di controllo nella prima colonna di ogni riga prima del nome dell'ingrediente, da contrassegnare come selezionata mentre mescolo (puoi usare la barra spaziatrice per selezionare/deselezionare la casella).

Purtroppo il mio importRange è bloccato da google a causa dei permessi, ogni volta è un casino autorizzare un file esterno con fogli google. Avere un file esterno con tutti i materiali è molto più comodo ma purtroppo è un'opzione che google sheet mi blocca nonostante autorizzi tutti i permessi! Ho deciso di inserirli manualmente.
