Some of the examples mentioned in this thread. I personally was impressed by O'Driu - I paid not much more than the shipping cost, and they sent several samples later completely free.
How did you get your free samples,I just emailed them.and asked them how can I get free samples of cologne...

Floris sent me about 10 samples when I inquired about their feminine line. Robert Piguet sent me three samples of scents I inquired about. Lovely customer service from both.

Overall, I have gotten:

Samples from:

Jo Loves
Hermes
Serge Lutens
Penhaligon's
Floris
Piguet

No from:

Malle
Jo Malone
Byredo

I've purchased many full bottles from the Frederic Malle boutique - both online and in person (when I was in NYC); and from my experience, they are not generous when it comes to samples. They will give you two samples with a purchase, and if you ask for more, they will give you just one more (for a total of three). They aren't allowed to give you more than three samples with your purchase. Whether your purchase is $115, $180, or more, the max you'll get is three samples.

I hear SA's at retail stores are far more generous, will try purchasing from them next time.

I am hesitant to post in this thread, lol. But from my experience, the tone of your request, your well written email, and a good familiarity with their product line goes a long way in getting samples.

Please remember these companies get inundated on a daily basis from ebay hounds that turn around and sell the carded samples on ebay, which pisses me off to no end.

I have had responses from some companies that were almost a challenge, to see if I actually knew their product line. And when i responded favorably, they asked me which samples I wanted, then also requested that I review those samples and email them back. Which I did do, and I know if there is another fragrance in their line I would like to sample, all I have to do is ask.

If you email these companies and just ask for "free samples", I doubt you will have much luck. And I hope you end up with fragrances in your eyeballs if you are requesting them to sell them on ebay.

Best of all, it was a free gift.. well, I did drop ££££ on perfume in the Harrods store.
To top it up, Mr Marchal has just emailed me. He will be sending a pack with 10 samples (I worked out the deal with my purchases).

Be polite, happy, friendly, spend some money and, good things will come to you. ;)

I've spent over a $100 on samples bought from eBay over the last couple of years. I dont really buy anymore

I've read the previous posts on Serge Lutens, I havent had a chance to check those out personally but I'm interested In Five O'Clock Au Gingembre, Un Boise Vanille, someone mentioned they dont ship to the United States, so am I out of luck? I can write a polite and respectful message but how would I ask THEM specifically? Where can I find Lutens in person to check out?

Would Chanel & Versace be accommodating? I would like to sample Egoiste/ Platinum Egoiste (dont really know what the difference is) and Versace's Eros & Dreamer. I've been lucky with blind buys but I don't have the luxury to spend on something I don't like. Any help is much appreciated

Platinum egoiste is more fresh. Has a citrus note that plays around with something mineral to my nose. Great fragrance. Smells classy.
egoiste is on of my favorites. It smells sweeter and the major note smells like those dried flowers women decorate their house with. Egoiste is a classic

The lovely lady at Geo F Trumper sent me loads of samples free to try.
I told her i liked the sandalwood one, and asked about shaving foam.
Two days later, I've got a pack of ten shaving foams.
Cheekily, asked about feminine frags for the wife. And lo and behold, more samples turn up for the missus!

To be honest, is feel that I'd rather shop with a company that's willing to show you their wares and be helpful, so I bought two lots of their frags and some shaving soap.

Shame I can't get hold of some of thos Roja samples like a offer did! (I REALLY wanna try Vetiver )

Dear emoe
It's great to hear that people have been singing our praises to you!
If you would like me to send a few samples to you I would be happy to do so, if you wouldn't mind we would charge a small P&P of £5?

I have a few fragrances in mind which I would recommend based on the others you mentioned:

Ormonde Man: This boasts an unusual heart note of Black Hemlock with the addition of Cardamom, Coriander seeds and Oud

Zizan: A Fresh burst of Lime, Sage and Jasmine with a base of Vertiver and Musk

Nawab of Oudh: This fragrance is from our exclusive Four Corners of the Earth range and is an addictive blend of young green Oud, Rose, Cinnamon and Ambergris

If you would like to supply me with a telephone number, I can give you a call at your convenience to complete the P&P transaction and we can get those samples sent over to you to test at your leisure.

Kind Regards,

Holly Adderley

It's always nice to recieve free samples. As a seller and lover myself i have experienced the worth of sampling from both sides.
You can order 3 free samples on the site in my signature. Usually shipping is only to Holland, Belgium, Germany and UK. But samples are easy to send all over the world. Perfumes are a bit harder to ship internationally though. If you guys want help or suggestions on what samples to order just give me a shout, i'll gladly help you out.

I tried these guys this morning to see if they had Eucris and Sandalwood samples but alas none in stock. They were very courtious in their response, though :)

Re: Free Samples

Kenzo, if you contact through the site.. and my new deep dark secret... Tom Ford! As pictured below (and they are rather generous, as you can see) I too still have not received anything from Mugler. You can basically go to any perfumer's site and look for the contact info and contact them and ask. It doesn't hurt to try.
294hqmr.jpg

Are the samples of "Tuscan Leather," "Tobacco Vanille," and "Noir de Noir" in the picture above sample vials or sprays?

Do you think it's better to write in French or in English (or in a little bit of both, like some of the e-mails you get back) when writing to Paris-based companies? I'm interested in writing to a couple of them but I don't know what's better.

If you are proficient in both languages, then use French.

If your French is "rusty" then I wouldn't bother. All of these perfume houses have customer service people who are fluent in English. I'd just politely communicate as normal in English. My take has been to inquire about where samples can be obtained locally. Usually that triggers an offer of sending some free samples. I always inquire about paying for shipping costs, which are appreciated but usually declined. It just conveys more sincerity (and may result in a few extras thrown in).

To be fair, I'm based in Europe so a few of the contact pages seem to list locations in France. It just seemed more polite but you might be right. We'll see! I've definitely offered to pay for shipping costs, I'll report back when I'm done sending out the e-mails and get replies or samples.

Re: Geo F. Trumper---Free samples, *class act.

They'll ship free samples to the US if you ask?

I've contacted various European fragrance houses, from boutique to mainstream, when interested in skin testing a scent before purchase, and most will send a sample to the US, but it's shipped from a US based vendor.

Re: Geo F. Trumper---Free samples, *class act.

That depends on what company you're dealing with. You have to e-mail customer service and ask.
Hermès will send you one sample for free.
Some companies will charge you for shipping and some will simply ignore you completely.
Good luck.

I was asking about Trumper, but are there any other companies that send you samples (besides Hermes and Mugler)

I tried contacting Frederic Malle customer service regarding samples, but never received the courtesy of a reply. So I will cross them off the list and move on.

They have a section on their web site, FIND YOUR SIGNATURE - fill this out and they will respond via email with their recommendations. Then, call them at the number in the email and tell them you received their message, and whether you go with their recommendations or pick other scents - they will happily send you 3 samples for a flat $20 fee. I haven't done this in a very long time as I now own all the FM fragrances I like already, but when I did use this service, they were extremely helpful and accommodating - in fact I received 5 samples for the same $20 fee. I did not ask for extras, the girl I spoke with simply wanted me to try couple other fragrances, based on my description of what I liked - and the samples *I* chose were not exactly what she was recommending.

Also - any time you order anything from FM, they are more than happy to include samples of other fragrances completely free. Then again - most companies are happy to include samples with purchase. Obviously don't expect handouts and don't be a total dick just calling to ask for a bunch of free samples, then ask for more and more as the conversation continues (because with that kind of attitude you likely won't get any at all) - but know that if you are a paying customer, they will try to accommodate your requests. And FM sales people are, in my experience, always very accommodating, often going beyond my expectations as a customer.

Thank you for the reply and link.
I just wish FM customer service had told me as much considering in my e-mail to them I made a point of asking how I could purchase samples.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the heads up. I try a lot of samples because I find that longevity is very important for me when considering if i will purchase a FB of a scent or not. I enjoy some scents, e.g. Jo Malone Oud and Bergamot, but hesitate to purchase a FB based on its temporariness on my skin.

I feel like certain NYC houses just get off letting you know you're sucking up all their time asking for them to send you a drop of a perfume.

Was wandering Nordstrom fragrance aisles the other day and was asked by a lovely young lady if she could be of assistance. I told her I was always on the lookout for something new, and although she seemed nonplussed that I had no preferences, she walked with me and made several suggestions. Upon arrival at the Chanel counter, she asked whether I had tried Gabrielle, and if not, would I care to. I told her I was already wearing a scent, and mentioned a scarcity of Gabrielle samples, and my reluctance to invest without a few tries. She said "Well, let me make you a sample!" and filled a 2ml spray bottle and said she hoped to see me upon my return. The bottles were unmarked, and did not appear to be exclusively for Chanel use. Excellent customer service.
