There’s a house coming out called Jinx Smells. I’ve stumbled across them on Instagram and have seen several people that love ouds and artisanal houses talking about them. I wanted to try a fragrance they have called Heater which uses several ouds from Ensar, one from Jinkoh, and another Oud, but the price was like $350-375 for 15ml. They’re also only selling through Patreon right now and I don’t/won’t pay money just to be able to maybe buy a fragrance.

Today will give a brief review of the house called Yuzhi Oud.
i had him at the back of the mind for a while, but never had a chance to buy due to multiple other releases.

i got a current pack of all his oils and will run the list from Most to Least favorite:

1) Hainan Noble (#5) - this oil was a bit of a revelation to me, almost as much as the 2nd oil. reason for this is clarity of notes that other oil producers mention, but when i test oil - its nothing like that. Hainan Noble, in short, is a spicy, chocolaty toffee on a dry woody base. no weird notes, no smoke nothing irritating. Toffee is the main note, chocolate is sharing 2nd along with very gentle and complimenting mix of spices(cinnamon, cardamom, tonka, clove) and possibly because of the CO2 extraction, per Ensars posts, there is thins gentle dusty and woody base which, once again, is very complimenting. Very pleasant oil that i think will be great in colder weather, but also not intrusive in warm one. another thought i had - this prob would be a great oil for Russian Adam to use for the Russian Oud release. is it perfect - no, there is 1 weak side to this oil - longevity. from 1 drop that i rubbed between the wrists, it lasted for about 4-5 hrs without major projection. nevertheless, i think i will order more of it, and will work on some boosters and mix into a fragrance. again - very impressed with this oil and recommend. price is $45/ml.

2) Ethereal Florals (#4) - as mentioned above, again very impressed by it. i cant say it is flowery, but what this oil has is an incredible sour cherry note. maybe not even live, but a cherry compote, it is slightly less intense smell wise, but it possesses both a gentle sour/fresh tone, as well as slightly sweet. Once again - when you hear that oud has cherry notes blah blah blah - none of the ouds i tried have anything on the cherry note in this oudh. top cherry note is and long lasting, and projects fairly well, without being too much. at the base of this oil there is this terpenic, smoky and woody note that is characteristic to a few other oils. it is not intense when top note is in play, but i have to say it is not my favorite smell, but nothing horrible, it doesnt ruin the oil and i am sure will be welcomed by others. if this oil had woody note like in Bengal Emerald(smooth dark wood) i think this oil would be absolutely incredible. it is hydro distilled, lasts between 7-8hrs and is priced at $53. i am curious how would it smell if it was CO2 extracted? recommend oil for test and as mentioned above - it was a revelation to me :)

3) Flowery Vale (#2) - this oil is one that plays tug-o-war. On paper - it smells very clean as if golden apple or plum juice has been extracted from the Aquilaria tree. Fresh, fruity, with a sour touch that sits over a gentle terpenic base that is really well behaved. Super easy oil to wear and enjoy. On my very warm skin the top fruity part is not so strong anymore, but still available more so in silage, where as base is really amplified, especially when sniffing up close. and it is the base that is similar to the Ethereal florals that i am not a fan of. This oil is not long lasting unfortunately, about 3-4 hours, but on the plus side it is fairly priced at $25/ml. It is hydro distilled one. This oil is probably great for top notes and adding terpenes to perfumes, or you can add it to unscented moisturizer base and just enjoy an oud moisturizer :D

4)Classic Fermented (#3) - yes, it is almost what you think it is based on the name, but it has a twist. there is surprisingly no barn in it. It walks on the thin line, but never crosses it. Hay, honey, herbs, wood, civet maybe, even a touch salami(meaty and salty note). it is darker oil, as if chinese done hindi style. i cant say that i really like oils like this, but it is definitely a good one. whether base note or any other use - i think it will be very well received. i don't get much terpenes here or smoke, but probably should be expected since it is a CO2. this is not a top heavy oil, more works as a bass in music world, gives substance to the composition(or maybe not, because i know little about music, but that's how i imagine it to be :) it is $53/ml oil and longevity on me was around 6-7 hrs, close to the skin.

5) AL SU (#10) - this oil is Hainan Noble done EDC style. Very Light, transparent, but retaining the sweetness, spices and dusty woody base. i am all about very strong scents, so this oil takes 5th out of 6 spot, but it is not a bad one. $16/ml, CO2 extraction, and longevity that i could perceive is about 2-3 hrs. You be the judge if it is worth your attention.

6) Sinensis Canton (#9) - this oil is similar to Flowery Vale in the sense that it is a tug-o-war oil. Blotter testing - it is a clean oil like a Flowery vale, with a bit of cherry note from Ethereal Florals, but with a much stronger base consisting of the woods and terpenes. with this profile, it could have shared #2 spot with Flowery vale, because Hainan Noble and Ethereal Florals do share #1 spot, but what ruins this oil for me is the tone it provides on my skin. warmed by the body temperature it turns into a regular chinese oil, with its herbal tone, but the base notes really jump to the front. That smoky terpenic smell is too strong and i just cant keep it on, i wash it off. This is similar smoky note when classic hindis and malays are done i believe, so it will most likely find its fans, but i am not one of them. Hudry distillation at $50/ml.

i did get Green Kyara wood as well, but burner is not here yet, so i cant share anything on that wood, so update will be due in about a week up to 2 weeks time i hope.

If anyone else tried Yuzhi Oud oils as well, and Potentially have :
#1 Hainan Sweet
#6 Hainan Premium
#7 Richly Fragrant Aroma
#8 Hainan Royal Fermented
#11 Kinam Oil

Overall - positive experience, interesting oils, worth adding to a a Fragrance Journey Map :)
Glad to see others enjoying Yuzhi Oud. I started a thread here a while back. Jeff is way cool, I bought his oils and woods also.

Creed

Also Bois Imperial, which seems to be gaining a lot of traction and hype in the “community”
Is it by that essential parfums brand?
Checking notes, I am immediately turned off by ambroxan, and akigalawood is synth as well if I am not mistaken. Did you try others from the house?

His stuff is good, but would really like to try others as well, to have full picture. Very little info on the web about his stuff :/
What did you think of sinensis Canton?
How is Hainan sweet? I see that ur pack is different from mine.

Had some extra fragrance budget last month and joined the patreon on a whim, While the prices are definitely a hurdle I’m enjoying most of their stuff so far.

Picked up one of the limited editions called Leather La Jolla which is a super animalic oud leather with some nice kind of blue-ish florals. The strength is absolutely absurd for an all natural.

He also included samples of their first collection which is getting released outside of Patreon. Clicking Frog is a great floral sandalwood, it almost gave me Santal Galore or OE3 vibes, best of the lot thus far. Roza Ruh is a very nice, bright greenish rose with sort of fermenty oud that evolves a ton through the wearing. Jasmynal is insanely animalic: I adore all animalics and funky challenging notes and this actually out-animalic’d me…it’s a very hard one to describe and I found myself fascinated and repulsed in equal measure. It is also cataclysmically strong, feels almost dangerous lol. All three have a shared component, a very brown, musky spicy base that I think might be natural musk but I’m not sure.

I do worry that they may have jumped too quickly into the artisanal price bracket. As time goes on, and as the field gets more and more populated with quality work I think it might be a tough sell. I definitely feel that introducing some more accessibly priced work might do the brand some good.

TLDR: expensive but promising; Clicking Frog is very very nice!

That's the website, but nothing on it yet.

Do you know if Clicking Frog and Leather la Jolla will be making it to a full release?

I have heater from the house which I give a big thumbs up and samples the rose oud and clicking frog both of which are quite good especially clicking frog.

No not yet. havent Had a chance to properly try out Bois Imperial either but I’ll review it once I have. Possibly trying out his new Barrois Scent today. Another small decent brand…

The sweet should be called honey oil, it’s thicker than molasses and has a very light honey and hay vibe. The Sinensis is more my style, darker. These are CO2 extraction, I believe he also has a line that are hydrodistilled

Hey, any ALD fan had free moneys and got a sample of Roxburry by Aton perfumes? That patchouli from 97 wont leave my curiosity alone, but i have no interest in other 2 compositions, and dont want to spend money for the sample set.
Thanks

I got Roxbury and Manly is a better perfume.
Basically speaking it is a chocolate/dry dark wood like patchouli with a very faint terpenic note very deep into drydown topped with something like a slightly bitter liquor, but liquor is an overstatement. Rather flat and boring fragrance that is not worth the money.
Aton line for me personally is a closed chapter.

Got my package #2 from Yuzhi oud:

1) Hainan Sweet (#1) - awesome oil! It is an oil that is similar to Hainan Noble (#5) with a stronger, darker woody base. Top is that caramel chocolate goodness and once that phase passes few hours down the road - dark, soft, slightly dusty, slightly sweet wood remains on your skin. Lasts good 7-8 hours. This is probably a CO2 extraction as well, but has a nice staying power and projection, no flaws in my book. Originally i thought to add some woody oud to Hainan Noble but this oil solves that 'problem' for me. Price is $45 per ml and its a really good price for this caliber of oil.

2) Richly Fragrant Aroma (#7) - this oil to Etherial Florals (#4) is what Hainan Sweet (#1) to Hainan Noble (#5), an addition of darker, slightly sweet woody base to that awesome Sour Cherry profile. As with Hainan Noble, i though of adding some woody base to Ethereal florals to achieve a woody cherry oud, and Richly Fragrant aroma does exactly that. Amazing oil with good longevity which is around 7-8 hours. No flaws. Probably a CO2. Price is $53 per ml and once again - worth the asking price.

3) Hainan Premium (#6) - is your most standart Chinese profile of oil with its zesty hay and herbs profile over gentle dose of terpenes, albeit of a very good quality. This particular oil has a gentle cherry note up top making this particular oil, in my opinion, a step above other oils that are of classic profile. I would somewhat also link it to Sinensis Canton (#9) however this oil is more full bodied.
This one must be distilled oil as its rather clear without dusty notes. Price is $60.

4) Kinam (#11) - this oil is tricky. My understanding of kinam is based on 2 things:
1. AA Green Kinam - crystal clean piercing green smoky note.
2. Green Kinam Chip from Yuzhi Oud - gentle milky green with a touch of rubbery note like in a perfumed pencil errasers.
Kinam oil is probably a CO2 oil because it is Golden and Green note, a little nutty and not milky. It is a little dusty which is characteristic of CO2, and has no terpenes, no smoke in it. This oil somewhat relates to Flowery Vale (#2) but more fuzzy and dusty. Biggest downfall of this oil is that its really quiet. I have only tested it twice with small dab, so ill continue testing it and will write update on it if anything changes, but for now its too quiet, not quite kinam like but lovely nonethe less. Price is $75.

From what i managed to gather, we have a few families with different profiles/shades within, and that is awesome, because everyone will be able to find something to their taste, almost a tailor made.

Toffee family:
#1 - toffee over dark woods.
#5 - pure sweet spicy toffee.
#10 - gentle toffee breeze.

Cherry family:
#7 - cherry over dark woods.
#4 - clear sour cherry juice.
#9 - gentle sour cherry breeze.

Nectar family:
#2 - golden green apple
#11 - golden green dust.

Chinese Classic family:
#6 - traditional herbs & hay.
#3 - classic barny hay and funk
#8 - this oil i didnt purchase this time and i didnt want any funk, but probably will get with another order.

There are aparently 2 more oils that i didnt know about:
#13 Ying Huo
#12 ????????

Overall - Yuzhi oud is now my favorite distiller of oils with very high quality oils for a very reasonaly price compared to others. Great communication, presentation of oils. Very happy and really recommend others to try it.

If this picked your interest - id suggest to get together and order large quantity at once as that might give you additional discount, and then split it when it arrives to us.

4) Kinam (#11) - this oil is tricky. My understanding of kinam is based on 2 things:

So I got 6 Yuzhi Ouds also to try. I was genuinely pissed off when I tried this 'Kinam', it was so unbelievably weak that it barely smelled at all. Just the slightest milk and cereal smell but barely detectable. I thought I'd been duped and sold a diluted oil, I mean, Eden Botanical's 5% Vietnam Oud in 95% FCO is like 10x stronger! Doesn't smell like Kinam to me, if this was ever Kinam wood, it's almost like it was non-infected shaved-off wood that was further diluted way, way down to non-existence. I liked the other ouds and turned the "Classic Fermented" one into a 30% spray which I've layered with or worn neat. But honestly, after trying Yuzhi's most expensive offering 'Kinam", and feeling like I was tricked, I don't know how I can ever trust Yuzhi again and do business with him.

I ended up pouring the gram of 'Kinam' into my Amber Cologne bottle, its presence is practically undetectable. A month later, I think I can just barely detect the slightest trace of it but it could just be in my head.

Everyone has its faults, so i wouldnt give up only because of 1 oil, plus i tested and honestly described them to my best ability, so now you all have reference. I will keep this kinam for longer and see how it transforms as, for example, terpenes in #2 and #9 settled down and they are a bit more projecting and pleasant then the first time i tried them. Also - always test stuff and dont buy bulk.

Can you share which other oils you bought and how is your experience with them?

Other Yuzhi oils have been pretty good for their price. Certainly not 'generic' smelling oils if you know what I mean. So, I got the following:

Hainan Sweet (YZ01)
Flowery Vale (YZ02)
Hainan Classic Fermented (YZ03)
Hainan Nobel (YZ05)
Sinensis Canton (YZ09)
'Kinam' Oil (YZ11)

I tried these a little while ago and ended up giving them to my local perfumer friend. Unfortunately, I I can no longer recall the smell of these oils other than I was pretty happy with their scent profile for their price. I did keep 'Kinam' Oil 11 (only to pour it into Amber Cologne) and Hainan Classic Fermented YZ03 though so.... I can say that I absolutely LOVE the fermented 03. It's like a sharper cheesier version of the oud in Oud Maximus OG. Pungent, cheesy, meaty oud that pierces the air. Best performance out of the bunch too (no surprise given it's a soaked oud). Slight hint of dark fruits in the background. My perfumer friend prefers fermented Indian ouds but this was my favorite from this batch.

There’s a few other smaller business that I have bought from or plan to buy from.

Such as jinkoh store

yaaseen.llc and clandestine

Jinkoh store is sells a lot of pure oud oils and attars they go quick doe some of them.

Yaaseen.llc is an attar maker (and quite a few other interesting bits)with some intresting offering that stand out from the rest which I plan to vist.

clandestine well nuff said heard a lot of good things on here and the owner is quite informative and pleasant to talk to. Quite few of the offerings greatly intrest me
Always great to hear about new brands!

Jinkoh's Vanilla Paradise V2 is a lovely gourmand tobbaco and I'm very eager to try Sunset in Cairo.

I second Yasseen, Mustafa is a great guy to deal with and so talented. His first pinacle Musk attars are amazing and I wish I bought Khalid or Ninja when they were available.

I ordered a sample set.

Jiz and Cuba Libre.
25 for the samples and 18 for the shipping... its very expensive.
hope it is worth it!

Cuba Libre sounds interesting: 28% concentration perfume. This limited batch has been made with 1kg of ambergris tincture from Larvik, Norway.

About to pull the trigger on Elixir d'Agar.
Has anyone tried them all? I'd like one that is animalic.
