Here’s a fun watch I just picked up. I like it more than I thought I would!
Chuck, do you know if this was a 50/50 collaboration, or is this principally an Omega release?

(Not Chuck, but…) It’s hard to quantify because Swatch owns Omega. However, the manufacturing, movement, and materials are from Swatch, utilizing design elements from Omega. That’s why it looks like a $6K watch but retails for $260.

I knew Omega was part of the Swatch Group, but was unsure as to the input from each. What you said explains why it's priced like a Swatch and not an Omega. I just had not seen a product with that type of collaboration before.

Is that a Jaeger Le Coultre and is the band solid 18K gold?

That’s a DuoPlan—LeCoultre invented that movement in 1925. The company officially merged with Jaeger in 1937, though they started working together in 1903, and the DuoPlan was a fruit of that collaboration.

Don’t know nothin’ ’bout the band!

Aren't you a fountain of Swiss watch knowledge! In my twilight years I'm still learning! :)

I just got a Casio AE-1200, stainless steel. Apparently James Bond wore a watch very similar to it, so it has that "gadget" vibe to it.

I was never into "cheap" watches when I was younger. The goal was a Rolex, but I was settling for Fossil's and Emporio Armanis. Now that I've matured, I can't believe I overlooked the Casio brand.

Like. I love these Casio watches too. I have an adorable vintage one with a tiny calculator but don’t wear it because I can’t figure out how to set it up.

Did you see the mark-up on these things on the gray market? I heard they were going for thousands when first released and sold out.

I love watches aesthetically, and as feats of engineering, which the DuoPlan certainly was. Turns out, I haven’t any need or great desire to wear one. Go figure!
I can understand. I sort of have always had a similar viewpoint about antiques. :)

Didn't it come with instructions, or didn't the person you got it from explain how to set it up?

The Casio was one of my thrift-store finds and didn’t come with anything. This is it; it also needs a battery.

But hednic, your question prompted me to look on the internet for a manual and there is a two-page operation guide. Looks like it will take some studying. A good project when the urge hits.

The attachment isn't coming up when clicked so I can't see the watch, but I'm glad you found the operation Guide online to help. :)

Where did you see these and and do you remember for how many thousands?

I like them myself, but one can only fit so many chairs into a house. (At least, my house.)
Just curious since antiques were being mentioned - Are chairs the only antiques you like or are there other pieces of furniture that also catch your eye? If so - which?

Oh, if only it were just chairs! Although, for reasons I don’t quite fathom myself, I have a special fondness for them. I think it’s the compact marriage of form and function. So, the odd table, and smaller objets. And our piano.

Mostly, though, it’s items from a narrow window around the early 20th century. So, just barely antiques, if we go by the 100-year rule.

I saw them on eBay and some of them were getting close to the price of an actual Speedmaster, in the $4k range if I recall correctly. Not sure if they had any buyers at that point, though.
