Below is my 64 count Non-Investment everyday timepiece collection. All of the watches below are Swiss made in either solid 18K Yellow, White, Rose Gold or Platinum. No Stainless Steel with the exception of the Gevril which is 18K and Stainless. All were purchased either directly from the company or an authorized dealer of the company. I also own 15 investment grade timepieces that are kept in the vault which I never wear in public anymore and will not be photographed. They are too costly and must be secured at all times. One of the watches in the vault is actually more than 2x the value of my entire 4,000 + fragrance collection. I will try my best to explain each one below the best I can to my recollection but some model names I can't remember. I hope you enjoy looking at them. 😃

Beautiful Collection!
How did it took you???
Thank you very much for your kind words. It has taken me several decades to accumulate the 80 watches I now have. Your father seemed like a wonderfully experienced horologist. Do you have your own watch collection or a favorite watch or watch brand?

My Dad used to own several vintage wrists watches. These were my favorites: Longines Record 70’, Omega Speedmaster 70’, Rolex Oyster 77’, but there were many more…

And various German Cuckoo and a standing Grandfather clock, but we ended up at hardship times. He collected them through the years in the business and customers who did not came back after the repairs were completed.

A old friend bought all his collection for a fair price and after that we moved to USA in 2007. He pass away nine months ago, he was 81 years old at the time.

I miss him and the conversations we had every morning.

Your dad had very good taste in watches. Those three models are very nice. I'm sorry for your loss and hope your cherished memories of him will sustain you.

Thank you for your kind words…

I can still remember every detail and advice he gave me, when I was learning.

We lived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but a civil war broke down in the 60’ and he wanted a better life for us, so he managed to get us political asylum to Puerto Rico.

Sorry for my late response.
Today we had the power back on, since Hurricane Ian blasted Florida, but we live in southern east coast.
Thanks to God we’re fine, but west coast was destroyed.
Have a great day.

Post deleted.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong thread, meant to post in Let’s Talk Watches and have moved the post over there. Apologies for the derailment of this wonderful thread. I got carried away reading about people’s backgrounds. Thanks, PStoller and ChuckW for the likes.

I've recently been bitten by the bug and have been very interested in acquiring an entry-level automatic. Currently looking at offerings by Orient and Seiko
It has been a while, but I'm curious as to whether you were you able to find one to your liking?

I envy you. I don;t think I ever wore a watch swimming with me. Too afraid. :)
I take my Breitling swimming, but would never take my Jaeger-LeCoultre into the pool. If it's a dive watch designed to go underwater, then I'm not too concerned getting it submerged. Conversely, I would not do that with a dress watch or a chrono, even if they have some degree of water resistance.

I just hope it has the same kind of energy that Five-0's does!

So if this doesn't need batteries, is it manual, automatic or kinetic?

I've been wanting a tank watch, and after Five-0's post I decided to look around eBay to see if there was a Caravelle tank I might like. There were none in women's styles that I liked, so I checked the men's versions and found this beauty. I like a large watch face anyway, and this one looks even better in person, with shiny silver steel numerals. Very happy, and it was a bargain, used but in perfect shape. I just hope it has the same kind of energy that Five-0's does!

Very nice. I received a sterling silver tank watch as a gift on my first graduation, so it's a style that is special to me. Enjoy!

Mine is batteries, but I believe the one FiveOaks had that inspired me to buy it was quartz.

OK thanks. A little bit confusing, because I thought she stated that hers didn't need batteries.

Confusing to me too. Just checked my Caravelle and it’s still going. It doesn’t seem to need anything! I tried to research the early Caravelle movement but couldn’t find adequate information—but I’m not complaining! (Just curious. 😊)

Cook.bot, how is your lovely rectangular Caravelle doing?

My guess is that it's quartz with a very long life battery apparently. :)

Speaking of which, is my memory playing tricks on me or did quartz batteries used to last significantly longer than is the case today...?
Actually I think it's the opposite as there are high-powered 10-year batteries that are being used more and more in quartz movements.

Ok, I haven't come across those. It just seems that my quartz batteries never seem to fail to fail, so to speak, just after the 1-year guarantee expires - you might even say you could set your watch by them doing this...! It's something I don't remember happening nearly so regularly in years gone by, but then I probably wasn't paying as much attention back then either.

By the way, are the high-powered batteries any relation to the Citizen quartz eco-drive technology, or is that something different altogether?

I know they are used in Seiko Perpetual Calenders and my guess probably they are being used also with Citizen quartz eco-drive technology.

I think there are “ordinary” quartz batteries out there now that are guaranteed to last way longer than one year.

I'm sure there are, but the places around me all seem to offer 1-year guarantees as standard - and the batteries rarely seem to last very far beyond that. I suspect it's a deliberate, sales-related thing because as I said earlier, I'm sure I never used to have to replace my watch batteries anything like that regularly.

Have you ever thought about buying your batteries wholesale and installing them yourself? It's really not that difficult at all, with a few common commercially available tools. Not sure how practical it is in the UK, but in the long run you might save money and frustration.

Actually yes, I found your previous posts on this topic interesting, and it's something I may well look into in the future. I actually have a few quartz watches guaranteed for life in terms of their batteries, but I'm not particularly happy with the service & still find such regular replacements an annoyance, so your suggestion is definitely worth looking into - thanks.

You're welcome. You'd be surprised on how cost can add up over time having them serviced. :)

Actually "The solar cell, on the Citizen quartz eco-drive as highly specialized and efficient as it is, won't last forever. The solar cells in Eco-Drive watch last 20+ years before needing replacement, and can be replaced at an expert Watch Technician to get your watch working smoothly again."
