Bathory by Darren Alan Perfumes (2017)

By battle worn hunger torn awaitening
For the sun to break through the cold haze
And for the banners of Ebal to appear
On the hill in the suns first warm rays
The elder among the men looked deep into
The fire and spoke loud with pride
Tomorrow is a fine day to die

-Bathory, 1988
New to Darren Alan, sadly. Happily received a 7 sample set from the house today which included: Dorian’s Fougere, Cupid’s Bow, Musc Morderne, Sacred Smoke, Devil’s Share, After The Rain, and Acqua di Colonia.

I sampled all on test strips and then chose Acqua di Colonia as my SOTN. Perfectly in my wheelhouse and for my climate. A lovely take on a classic. Let me say now that I feel like ALL of the fragrances I tested are as well done as anything else I’ve tried, as far as my perception of the quality. Just all very well done. So far, by one testing, my favorites of those are Musc Moderne, Devil’s Share, and Acqua di Colonia with Sacred Smoke and After the Rain following closely. Dorian’s Fougere and Cupid’s Bow are as well done as the others, and I like them, but need more time with them. Actually I need more time with them all.

I’ve read Darren Alan is a BN member. If you’re reading this, sorry I’m just getting to know your house but I look forward to getting bottles from you.

PS. For those interested: Sacred Smoke is photorealistic high quality nag champa in a bottle. After the Rain is also photorealistic green grass, earth etc. And, for gourmand lovers, Cupid’s Bow has an outstanding chocolate accord.

Bathory is VERY animalic like old BaV and will knock you on your butt, be warned! Vintage Novel is really nice if you like rose/saffron/leather/oud, and I'd suggest Hekate as it rides in a similar channel as Antaeus. Chypre #1 could have been a Patou fragrance, which speaks for itself.
