Macassar is completely unique. I haven't smelled anything remotely similar to it.

Absolutely... Macassar is unique, but discontinued sadly... I'm just looking for something almost near...

Are you guys sure that it's been discontinued, or is it merely out of stock?

For example, everyone believed that Francesco Smalto PH was discontinued a year or two ago, but now tons of online retailers have it again, which leads me to believe it wasn't discontinued, but rather simply out of stock. Same thing happened to Knize Ten for a few years.

I emailed Rochas which is owned by Proctor and Gamble now twice in the past year and they have verified that it is out of production and they have no plans to reintroduce it. You're right I don't know of anything that smells even close to it. I love it!

That sucks. Macassar was one powerhouse I missed the boat on and never tried it. I've read the reviews on it and I've always assumed it was the kind of frag I could confidently buy blind if it ever were released again.

Had a 7ml mini in mint condition and while smelling pretty nice I never understood what all the fuzz what about (meaning people wanting to pay hundreds of dollars for a bottle).

To me, none but it also was not a macho scent to me at all but more a refined, not too strong fragrance that exudes class (have to think back years now!)

Macassar bought in 1982 and used it very little, at that time I preferred the fougere. Towards the end of the last century I used it a lot. Effectively. perfumes are not similar. Certainly the "family" is that of the ultra power and dirty. . I feel some vague similarity in the middle phase with Patou pour homme, definitely some nuances. Macassar is much more powerful and irreverent. If you can find it take it without hesitation. Buy only what vintage "black box" and not the draft that came out a few years ago! Ceers Florestano

Macassar has many many notes in common with Esencia and Tsar, if you are looking for a substitute I would star by checking those.
Personally I think that those two are among the best scents around.
After that I would try Polo Crest and/or Aramis Devin.

Macassar is extremely aloof and a cold fragrance. It was also a scent that afforded me possibly the best longevity of any fragrance I ever owned. I say this after owning the old splash bottle of all things.

I should have known better and buy a truckload of it when it was still available. Recently I got a message by someone who was offering me the "bargain" of buying four 100ml bottles and two 200ml bottles for as low as 2400$. Since this amount equals roughly to 50 bottles of exquisite fragrances, I kindly declined his offer. As for the original question, nopes, I've never encountered anything even remotely resembling it. I think that Alfarom's "Macassar it's not just a masculine fragrance, it's more like an angry male gorilla wearing a tuxedo." line says it all...

I avoid mini's of vintage classics if I can help it. Too many sellers fill them with AS or who knows what else, plus that small amount without being pressurized is a good candidate for turning, unless kept in optimal conditions all that time. If I had some left, I would send it to you bro, but I ran out some time ago.

Thanks anyway!
I bought a lot yeaaaars ago for very cheap and used them as little samples/testers to see if they were full bottle worthy! Cannot recall I ever received an altered one, though I had a few turned ones. It helped me on dozens of buys eventually! The Macassar was very good but in my memory it wasn't a powerhouse but I could be wrong as it was many years ago!

I recently managed to get my hands on a half full spray bottle. To me it smells like the bastard child resulting from a fling between Antaeus and Santos, both vintage.
