That said, today I'm wearing my favorite one, an Akribos XXIV. It's a little small for my taste --I favor extra big watches because I have extra big hands--, but I love it otherwise.

I like that, can see it fitting in really well with your general aesthetic from what's you've said on the forum!

The only watch I have as large as that is my Seiko Flightmaster, it's really about as large as I can go without having a watch look and feel silly with my 7 inch wrist.

Got my first Rolex recently. I'm gonna take it to be resized today perhaps. Usually I do all that myself, but since it's a $33,000 dollar watch, I feel obligated to take it to an authorized dealer to have them do it. I feel like such a snob now.

Will post some pics later, once I get it fitting right.

I found it at Fragnanimous for a price I could not resist. The name and that urn-shaped bottle drew me, and hednic's was basically the only opinion I could find.

I do love it. It's not what you would expect with that name (some kind of ELDO beast or HdP eccentricity, I suppose). It's an extremely civilized, refined, gentlemanly fragrance. Old school to a fault. What a James Bond villain would wear, while sipping on some peaty scotch and listening to Bach.

I have the 2012 reformulation, IIRC, so the vintage juice is probably even better. I have a feeling you'll like this.

Thanks! I have a few other luxury watches, Tags, Omegas, but majority of my collection are just the good stuff like Seiko, Citizen, I’m also partial to Fossil and Invicta.. I know a lot of people on here don’t like them and think they are cheap, especially Fossil, but those are brands I’ve been wearing a long time. I digress though.

I bought my Daytona from an authorized Rolex dealer with papers, but no box. That enables a lot of room to negotiate a lower price. I did not pay anywhere near what they are going for now, and I even paid below retail. This is a 2016 model of this Daytona btw. What i’m getting at with all of this, is that these are not as hard to acquire as you might think. Still in the 5 digits, but not non-affordable if you save a bit. I got a promotion at work, and I used that to treat myself to this. I’ve also cut back tremendously on fragrances, as I’ve realized I’m just going to buy what I want now, As opposed to just buying stuff that I know I’m only gonna wear a couple times. I, like many of us I think I have something called “fear of missing out” or FOMO. So we buy fragrances, knowing the high rate of discontinuation, Or worry that they’re going to shoot up in price, and that we won’t be able to get them again.

Ik, irrelevant to watches, but relevant overall. most of us do not have unlimited income and we have a budget for what we get.

most of us also don’t realize how much we spend on fragrances and when you stop collecting for a year or two and only get what you really want, and then look at what you spent and look at what you saved by not spending it on impulse buys, you’ll see in no time that you have enough money to buy that Rolex that you thought you could never get!

I’m a lot more into watches lately, I just don’t have time to post on here, and I haven’t gotten into the watch forums yet, not really sure I want to either. I still love base notes because there are forums here where I can talk about watches and fragrances which are 2 of my passions.

Sorry if this all is text vomit on here, I am dictating a lot of this on my phone and you know how that works.

Currently, I have a couple of vintage Rolex 1500 (a silver face and an olive green, my favorite), both with 34mm dials, perfect for daily wear under the sleeve, and a Fortis Flieger 1st generation, with a 40,5mm dial. 18cm wrist. I get them to service every 5 years and all three are dead silent.

It depends on the watch and your hearing sensitivity. You won't hear a Grand Seiko Spring Drive movement tick. The second hand on those truly sweep.

With my watches at a normal distance from my hear, I don't hear them. But, I could hear all of my all of my automatic watches tick if I held them up to my ear (Rolex, Omega, Panerai, Breitling, etc.). I've listened to a $200K A. Lange tourbillon tick by holding it up to my ear. A common beat rate for automatic watches is 4hz. That means they "tick" at 28,800 beats per hour (4 ticks per second). So they tick fast compared to the one tick per second of most quartz watches.

On Rolex, unless it’s a fake quartz version, you should not hear a ticking sound unless you put your ear right up to the case. I am deaf in one ear, so I wouldn’t be bothered by watch ticks. Really, even when I had full hearing, I never really had an experience that problem except maybe with like some old-school clocks on the wall in grade school. You must have impeccable hearing. lol

As for the question though, I think it really depends on the watch. I think most watches tick if you put your ear right up to it but depending on the mechanics inside and the craftsmanship will determine how loud of a tick it is. Quartz watches undeniably tick louder.

Though I wouldn’t let that determine what watch you buy. There are lots of good quartz watches and the good thing about those is usually if they break it’s just the battery that you have to replace. Sometimes determining what battery it uses can be a problem, like some Seiko and Citizen use very specific batteries in a lot of their watches that connect to the solar capacitor. but for the most part a battery change is simple in comparison to having a mechanical watch serviced. It can be very expensive to do so and if something breaks in a more expensive automatic watch, some watches have hundreds of parts inside.

Unfortunately my father recently passed away, but fortunately, in his will, he has passed along a fantastic collection of high end watches. My father wasn't big on fragrances. He loved his Drakkar and Polo, for the most part.

My father loved watches though. He had a collection of over 100, many high end, a couple Rolex, Panerai, Oris, Omega, Tag, Breitling, Cartier, Piaget, Rado.. some lesser valued, but still fantastic, like Tissot, Bulova, Seiko, Citizen, Tudor, and he has one AP, yup, a freaking AP! I have not seen most of them, I know the AP is on a rubber strap, but still, it's one of the most prestigious brands. The best part is, I will definitely wear most of the, because his style was on the deeper masculine side. He may have a couple old Rolex's in the smaller cases like 36 or 38 mm, but most of his watches I would see him wearing were between 40-43mm cases, which is ideal, although personally, I will wear up to 46mm, depending on the watch.

My father worked until the day he died, and he used to buy a nice watch almost every year, often with his tax returns. It's gonna be an honor to inherit them, and soon, I will share them here, and gloat just a lil'. Not to brag, but because tbh, I am a bit scared to wear some of these in public.😛

Sorry for the loss of your father, The_Cologneist. May having his watches to wear be a comfort to you. It sounds like a wonderful collection. I have a couple of watches that belonged to my late dad and it feels really good to wear them.

Today, wearing a new Invicta I picked up during a sale. $52, what a deal. The inflated Invicta prices are a bit ridiculous (see tag), I do think they make pretty well made pieces, mostly on just standard cheap bands though. I am very intrigued by their Marvel, and Star Wars collections, but the problem is is that most of them have HUGE cases. Even this one that I have on here is a 46 mm, a little bit out of my comfort zone, and a little bit heavy but then again, my Rolex is a 40 MM and it feels just as heavy. The specs say that The accents on this Invicta are 14 or 18 karat gold plated, I don’t think they are as they look too bronze, see pictures. Again though, at $50.. can’t really complain. It’s not too gaudy like a lot of Invicta’s can be.. often times, reminding me of guys from the early 2000s with tribal tattoos or flames on their wrists 😆. Or how about those rayon button down shirts with flames shooting Up from the bottom, they were a big fad in the early 2000s. That’s the association I get with many Invicta watches.

Anyways, I like this one, for the most part. a little uncomfortable with the size but I think I’ll make do. I might put it on a black nato strap, that could look good. I do like that the gold accents make it a little bit dressy, I also like that there’s only 2 chronometers, opposed to the typical 3, though I doubt I’ll ever use any. I have about 6 or 7 Invicta’s, I reckon, One is a 50 mm case, which I just can’t stand; it was an impulse buy, with a unique hunter green and black color wave - but it gets no wear, and I'll prob give it away soon. Fun fact: Invicta uses Seiko internals on many of their watches.

What are your thoughts on Invicta, and on this one that I got? Do you think it would look good with a black nato? I have A LOT more timepieces, but like my fragrances, due to clutter, they are just out of reach right now. Eventually I will make a collection post or video. I like, and prefer discussing watches here because the community is not as technical as some of the other watch communities. Also the fact that many watch stories correlate into frags, and vice versa. You mention a fragrance on the Rolex forum, and they ask what model it is 😂

Watch of the day.

Tag Heuer Aquaracer. This from my father’s collection, that I inherited.

This one was on a band with pins that I couldn’t remove to resize. It was quite awkward, as I have never had a problem taking pins out, whether they be flat head screws like on some Rolexes, or just the normal standard pins, I have never really had a problem (Other than occasionally being tough/noncooperative) but I had a problem with this Tag bracelet, the pin hole was extremely small, and I had no tool that would work to take the links out. My father had a much bigger wrist than myself.

Long story short.. I messed up the bracelet pretty bad on the ends, but may still be salvageable, if I switch back. I wound up putting this on my black Nato (that I was using on a Seiko that I posted earlier in the thread) with polished rings, and it matches so perfectly. The case on this Tag is polished stainless , which is usually not my thing.. I mean the whole thing is polished, and I thought it looked cheap like this, but after adding the black band, it really brought it all together and made it look bold and classy imo.

I’m gonna experiment with a few other straps with this one as well.

The movement is the most obvious part. Take a look at the Omega website and you can clearly see that it is not authentic. Multiple other things on the caseback, bracelet, and bezel are not correct.

Hmm, Idk. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I don’t think my father, who was a big watch snob.. would even know where to get a fake. I’ve seen fake Rolex’s in person, and you can easily tell when it’s in hand. This feels solid.

I compared it with those selling on Ebay. They do have Seamaster’s with clear case backs from around 2018. Although yes, I do see markings on some of the pieces in back that differ from others.

Also, they do make a lot of stuff that’s more limited, as well as with Rolex or any luxury watch maker, customizable. I know people who have 1 of 1 Rolex’s..although it may be frowned upon by watch purists..

There is a serial number on the back, which I am working on getting authenticated to see if it’s real. I’ll let ya know.
