L'Artisan Parfumeur. Is The Brand Going Out Of Fashion ?

Has L'Artisan Parfumeur become "old hat" ???
The reason I am asking this is, not only is TK Maxx overflowing with Artisans...including very recent releases - but also, only one department store in the whole of Berlin now stocks them and the girl on the counter told me they will not be carrying the brand for much longer. It is being removed from Ka De We. Quartier 206 who used to carry them, no longer does.
I'm curious to know how things are in your particular country ?
It seems weird that recent releases along with evergreens are ending up at dumping prices. I recently bought Ambre Extreme for €24.99 at TK Maxx.
Personally, I love the brand. I own about a dozen and really enjoy wearing them. Also love the sleek uniform bottle design of all their perfumes.

I wish they were available in discount stores in the U.S. Over here they're expensive and hard to get.

I read on another talk site that a relaunch was coming (for Penhaligon's too), which is why the old stock is being discounted. I don't have a source or any more information though.

The brand is not sold in any shop in my town. Only TK Maxx has some of their fragrances every now and than, and that's why I own 5 of them which I all enjoy and which all were blind buys except Dzongkha (someone opened the packaging so I took my chance to sample it). It's a shame that this old niche brand can't be found in more shops, I hope they will carry on for a long time!

Yes, this is true. That's why they're liquidating most of their lineup that's in the current bottle design. They even had a blowout sale on their official website not too long ago, with prices up to 50% off retail.

That would be a great news as I count myself among the lovers of this house.

It's interesting because they were fairly popular here 10 years or so ago, maybe even up until 5. I stopped paying attention to them for a couple of reasons: a) they started getting really creative with their fragrances and they, for the most part, weren't to my liking. This was around the time of their releasing Timbuktu. B) the market has just been inundated with new brands. A number of older brands have become more obscure as a result, or undergone a big remarketing effort - which means essentially new bottles, new packaging and higher prices.

L'Artisan fragrances have remained generally more affordable and perhaps that's left them sort of "in between" markets. Niche, but not exorbitantly priced as others, yet not really that much higher priced than mainstream designers whose prices have risen from around $60/3.3oz bottle 12-13 years ago to $80-85 now. But even say, 7 years ago I was surprised to see them somewhat "pushed to the back corner" in Neiman Marcus, thinking they deserved better placement (certainly better than something like a new brand Atelier Cologne at the time whose initial offerings were pretty derivative of other scents on the market already.

I don't find l'Artisan so cheap. It is never outstanding but surely performs far better than many
more renowned niche brands out there and several scents (Dzongkha, Al Oudh, Dzing, Fou d'Absinthe, Voleur de Roses) are at least respectable.

They are at every TK Maxx in Poland (that's how it's called here) for 30$ for 100ml. I don't know where to buy samples of the brand so it would be a blind buy. If I will be able to find the ones that seem interesting I might take a risk and buy one or two. Or maybe it's not the best price on the market?

That's the best price I have ever seen. Tea for Two, Timbuktu, Passage d'Enfer, Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, to name a few, are very nice. Most of the scents are quite versatile and easy to like.

Wow! That makes me want to visit Poland. Dzing!, Dzonghka, Fou d'Absinthe, Passage d'Enfer ... there are many great ones from this house.

They're $140 in New York. I'm jealous. There are at least five I'd blind buy at that price.

They will have a relaunch in 2016. The reason - they changed the owner, now the brand is owned by Puig. Soon the distribution will be wider than ever.

The closed their Covent Gatden shop in London a couple of years ago. I love their stuff so hope they continue.

I also saw LHomme Ideal sold for €45/100ml on some polish online shop. that confirms it, Poland sells fragrances for cheap.

Unfortunately only 2-3 different bottles are available in each TK Maxx. I will buy Dzongkha but haven't seen it yet. I'm sure they have Mechant Loup and Traversee du Bosphore everywhere. I will go scavenging tomorrow. We have 5 satores of TK Maxx in my town, 4 of those are reasonably close so I can visit them. With basenotes tab opened on my phone I hope I will be able to find some bargain fragrance.

I have never been a good judge of what constitutes "fashionable" in the perfume world, but I have bought three of their releases of the past 5 years and none before that. So at least to my tastes, I am liking some of their current offerings much more than their older stuff.

Last time I had a look in TK Maxx, there were Caligna (100ml), Mon Numero 10(100ml, 30ml), Mon Numero 9 (100ml), Thé pour un été (100ml), and the 50ml Timbuktu I bought. Last year Dzing!, Dzongkha, Voleur de Roses, Premier Figuier, Fou d'Absinthe, Mechant Loup, Al Oudh, Passage d'Enfer, and I guess Drôle de Rose and Mure et Musc showed up.
If they had Tea for Two, Patchouli Patch, Piment Brûlant or Poivre Piquant I would have blind bought them, but they didn't show up.
Prices for most 100ml Bottles are 39.99€ here in Germany, some are 49.99€ (e.g. the Mon Numeros and Mechant Loup).

Yeah, prices at TK Maxx are unbeatable, at least for the L'Artisans they have... Other perfumes you might find cheaper online.

Hmmm...I've always enjoyed Dzing! and Passage d'Enfer. I wonder if the Puig acquisition will mean the demise for some of the less popular scents. I've always seen them as one of the early pioneers in niche so, it would be great to see if they can get some of their proverbial groove back. I really like the aesthetic of the bottles etc. so, hopefully there won't be huge changes afoot there.

They have most of the line available at the Sephora downtown here. I quickly ran through most of the line and from what I can remember, they've been watered down, even lighter and less rich than before.

Personally not crazy about the house.

The ones I own are...

Ambre Extreme
La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme
L'Eau de L'Artisan
Merchant Loup
Mure et Musc Extreme
Tea for Two
Timbuktu
Vanilia
Verte Violette

Dzing is the one I cannot get my head around. I've tried it several times and find it very weak. I can hardly smell anything. Certainly no sawdust or circus.

After Montale I own more from this house than any other.

I also own L'Artisan more than other houses, and I guess some members are aware of my affinity for this house : P

However, Dzing and I also don't get along for different reason. I like many musky scents but whatever musk in Dzing just grates my stomach the wrong way.
