Knowing from Estée Lauder

Hello,
I've recently ordered a bottle of Knowing from my local Estée Lauder corner somewhere in... France 🙂 and the bottle's arrived, which sounds great. Now the sales lady tells me that the fragrance has been reformulated, and there I go, 'oh oh. Now what have they done to it?' So I'd like to know if anybody has smelt it since its 2022 reformulation, and what you think of it. Is it a total mess it is this amazing US national treasure still good to go?

ChypreinBloom, I’m a little confused by your question. Have you left your bottle unopened? Knowing has undoubtedly been reformulated a few times since its launch in 1988. I have not tried the version that is still being sold, but Estee Lauder usually does a good job of maintaining their classics so I doubt that it is a “mess.”

If you really want to have some fun, shop for a vintage 1980’s bottle of Knowing (look for boxes with no “e” estimated volume sign).

hell yeah, Knowing from the 80's/early 90's was quite frankly seduction in a bottle... my word, it was sexy, sultry, and classy ❤️‍🔥. TBH, I haven't smelled it since, so I have no idea how good/bad it is these days.

I haven't bought it yet, the sales lady just left me a message to say the order had got to the store (I ordered a few months ago without knowing --ha ha-- they were actually reformulating it). Anyway, thank you for your reassuring post. I'll certainly try a vintage bottle but I find they're harder to get in France/Europe. I'll give it another try.

I work at an Estee Lauder counter and while all the old classics have been reformulated Lauder does maintain the basic smell as the original. What changes is usually the strength. The older vintages were much stronger because they had to be; everyone smoked. Last I checked Knowing still smelled the same and even still had loads of oakmoss in it. I believe it was still manufactured in the USA too. Hope I've helped.

I have a bottle I bought last year, and I love it.
I only have a vintage miniature that I haven't tried yet - must do so. I'm pretty sure it will be even nicer, but the current version is really good.

While having very limited experiences with the utmost recent batches, even the post 90s tested/smell so far did luckily not significantly (if even at all) reduce/affect the original beauty of this fragrance if compared to its vintage version.

Knowing (vintage) will knock you down, its so strong. So even if it is less strong, I think that might be a good thing.

Knowing (vintage) will knock you down, its so strong. So even if it is less strong, I think that might be a good thing.

That's right. Not all reformulations are bad. In this case it might even help...

I think I read that this one is supposed to have stood the test of time, but if you're curious about comparing it with older versions there are a few bottles of vintage on eBay.fr for not a lot of money.

I'm sure you'll love it. Knowing and Estee Lauder Private Collection are my favorite Lauder scents and they are still pretty strong and gorgeous. Glad I could be of help!
