Knize Ten & Knize Ten Gold, differences and preferences

For some time I had mistakingly been considering my Gold mini as the regular one and was puzzled by how differently I perceive it than the reviews and notes describe it as. At the end of 2009 I noticed my mistake and finally tested Knize 10.

Since most of you know the original, here are the differences from my point of view.
The Gold Version is more floral, almost "golden" and, if you want, feminine. A very well done composition and to my nose the regular stuff pales against it. Gold is even leatherier, less powdery and as stated, has a floral vibe that only enhances the leather.

I postponed a purchase however due to a limited budget that only allowed other, more "urgent" FBs until the crave for Knize had somewhat decreased. I still had a sample of both for reference purposes.

I am posting this now because I recently came across the Gold version in a store again, put it on and, well, the crave is back :)
What an amazing fragrance. This is some truly great perfumery, uniwue and original as it gets.

The best part is that at full retail at one of Berlins most luxury shopping center it still is reasonably priced. It's back on my list and will be mine by end of march, the latest :)

What are your thoughts on the two, especially compared to each other?

I've only worn the Gold edition once. I liked it a lot, though not as much as the regular. One of the most impressive things about it was that 24 hours later it was still going strong. I've been meaning for a while to get a bottle of the Gold and try layering it with the regular. Hopefully soon.

I will have to sample Gold. I'm a leather fan, but truly dislike the regular rendition.

They're pretty close to each other, quite honestly. There are minute differences with the construction and the potency of the leather accord towards the topnotes, but if you have one you don't have to have the other.

I just got a bottle of Golden Edition which I'm getting to know. Haven't smelled the original, but I am enjoying Gold. Reminds me a bit of Xerjoff Homme which I recently sampled and liked, but would never buy due to it's price. The only drawback for me with Gold is a bit of a stale cigarette note in fhe opening which lasts about a half hour. Anyone else detect that?

Oh yes. Annoying, I agree.

I still have not smelled the Gold. I have the K10 deodorant, and it is like an EdC of the original, which I prefer. There is only so much birch tar I can take and K10 the original brings too, too much.

I've been comparing both of these this afternoon and completely agree with Timaru.

Now both fragrances are fantastic leather and musk scents- both have their own charm. They are so close to my nose and in the end I must say I prefer the golden edition. I get a tiny hint of citrus- anyone else on that? They both will certainly get a lot of wear for me as the weather turns cooler here in Australia.

I know what you mean about craving these scents. I find myself missing them if I'm away too long- kind of like a savoury snack when you've had too many sweets for ages.

I own them both and definately know the 'craving' to which one can wake up in the middle of the night ;)
I prefer the original and find the golden edition to be a dressed down version of the prior. Not much special about it actually. Although i must the difference in the end is minor. The original k10 has a more baslamic and powdery quality which i feel gives it mroe elegance. but again, minor differences.

I just got a decant of Golden Edition and compared it to the regular EdT (purchased about 3-4 years ago). Golden has a more potent leather note up front and the leather note is tad more 'fuel' like. They dry down fairly similarly and while there are some small differences if you're nose is smashed into you wrist the versions wear the same. I absolutely disagree with the OP that Golden is at all more feminine and don't think you could find a more squarely masculine perfume.

Oh boy, end of March is approaching quickly and I still haven't made the purchase.
By now however it's at the top of the list, tied with l'Anarchiste.

This thread bumped was just the reminder I needed :)

I had a sample since last Summer and finally pulled the trigger recently on the gold edition. Wow this stuff is potent, I have only given it a single forearm spray not a full wearing but that lasted all afternoon and was still on my arm after a shower.

It was actually a bit weird for me to wear it, it's just so far from the ordinary which isn't all bad but I am not totally convinced that I can pull this one off yet.

I might look into some layering options because to me it's very linear or maybe it just lasts so long that I never get past the first part even though it does calm down in about an hour on skin. Clothing forget it, that baby is ON there.

It's totally amazing and addictive to smell but at times I just get this thick chewy bug spray thing and others I get a wonderful light flowers and leather, crazy scent here.

Going to go research some layering ideas I think, maybe something to lighten this stuff up a touch!
