Hi, Folks,

I'm interested in Guerlain Vetiver - but is there a big difference between current and vintage? If so - what have you noticed? Is there a certain bottle I should look for? I've tried the current formulation and liked it, but would love some input.

Thanks for your help.

The current EDT version has many fans but I am not one of them; to my nose the current version is very strong and not in a good way. The vintage EDC version that I sampled was very smooth, balanced, and refined though on the lighter/softer side - I liked this version much better. Sorry I can't offer you more information as I no longer have access to either version and I'm going off memory. I'm sure others will reply.

Haven't compared to previous versions, but the current stuff - or at least what came in the green cap listerine bottles before the very recent move to the latest square bottles - is excellent. It's not to everyone's taste, but it's centered around a powerful vetiver note that's there from top to bottom. The opening citrus is fleeting, but it's not really about that; instead it's a sharp green vetiver, heavily spiced with nutmeg and clove, and padded out with an earthy tobacco note in the base. I get all-day performance from it, and I've already made a decent dent in my 200 ml bottle. At current discounter prices, I consider this one a gem if you like the scent profile.

I once had the ribbed bottle version but it was way too pungent and unpleasant to my nose. A while back I got a decant of the Edt which had a wonderful green tobacco accord which I liked very much. So I purchased a big 150ml bottle of the now current version. It smelled good and very citrusy but what disappointed me was they had removed the green tobacco accord. I could not pick it up at all like I could in my decant which was probably the one before the current version out now.

I think that the main difference is in the more complex base (tobacco, probably oakmoss). I have not followed prices, but I assume that vintage is superexpensive, as is any vintage Guerlain, so I'd be ok with current one and rather spend the money elsewhere.
That sounds about right, my experience with decant from the 1920s prior to the rerelease back in 1959, it was much mored dense and oppulent compared to what is available today and even in the last few decades. I think it comes down to price point and how much emphasis you want to place on vintage.

from a personal viewpoint alone: either and/or both, whichever of these is rather on budget and/or more easily, readily available.
GV being one of the few classic fragrances still in production that remain-at least from a personal viewpoint alone- still rewarding almost irrespective if going for the vintage or any new (er), more recent/current (re) formulation.

I'm not a huge fan of my 2019 EdT - there's something a bit foul, almost off-putting in it, which I guess must be from the tobacco accord.

The only other version I can compare it to is the 90s EdT - and that one to me is quite different and entirely pleasant. Nothing foul in it.

Oooof, I love the tobacco note in the wood-cap even though I’m not the biggest fan of the note. Just the right amount to make it interesting. The new version has reduced the tobacco and is a bit more fresh/polished. Love both versions.

Hi, can anyone help me to identify the year/decade of this bottle? I don't know the batch code. Thanks!

That could be between the seventies and the nineties. Do you have a box? That would be very hepful. Or take more photos of the bottle? Is therer a sticker at the bottom for example?
Thanks for answering! Here are some more pictures. There's no box, alas.

You are welcome. Without a box is pretty difficult because the bottles look the same (beginning from the end of the 60's till the nineties). I would say you habe a bottle from the seventies/eighties
Thanks very much for your help. Toying with the idea of buying it. Starting bid is £40/$49.
