I just found your Shalimar thread! :D So nice that you like it, It's really stunning.

I have the modern EDP (haven't actually tried the EDT) and a fairly recent bottle of EDC in the ridged narrower bottle. I really like the EDC, it lacks the - well, harshness? - I sometimes find in the modern EDP, and it's very cosy. I also have a Parfum de Toilette, which whilst good, surprisingly is not my favourite, and a few precious mls of vintage extrait. A good vintage bottle of extrait is definitely next on my Shalimar wishlist...

(I didn't get along with flankers: tried both Philtre and Shalimar Cologne and didn't really like either, they were too sharply citrusy for me. Can't stand the "souffles" at all. I have a little of the Millesime vanilla planifolia, which is pleasant but nothing compared to the OG.)

P.S. If you like Shalimar, try also Le Lion de Chanel.

The EDP is gorgeous, but it's very heady in a way that I sometimes struggle with.

The EDT is worth picking up and may be the most balanced of the three major concentrations. At any rate, it's much less floral than the EDP, but greener and darker than the EDC. The bergamot really "sings" in the EDT.

^ Thanks, Brooks Otterlake! Would you recommend vintage EDT?
I haven't sampled vintage, though I'm sure someone else will be able to weigh in.

Personally, I have started to stay away from vintages (unless strictly necessary) due to a few too many experiences with noticeable deterioration.

The current EDT is in such fine form, with such a stunning bergamot opening, that I don't feel the urge to go hunting amongst the vintage bottles for a good specimen.

A

A lil' OT, but a while you said you were going to sample Fahrenheit. Did you not like it?

Oh, I loved it! I wrote a little blurb in the “what did you try” thread about it a long time ago … something about a man fixing my car in a suit 😆

Thank you for encouraging me to try it, I’m so happy to have it.

I've got a few versions of Shalimar. Vintage 60s EdC is light, yet has a very nice leather accord. 70s extrait which is absolutely fantastic - it's deep, rich, and intoxicating; I'd love to try the current version. My favourite formulation though is a 90s (I think?) EdT which is heavier on the citruses than the vanilla and powder, which makes it more versatile to me.

I only tried the current EdP a few years ago, and there's just too much emphasis on the vanilla and powder for my liking.

I also have Eau de Shalimar, which is a nice flanker if you can find it which has a juicy mandarin note (not worth paying through the nose for it though).

Also worth trying is ELDO's Fils de Dieu. It's a modern twist on Shalimar where it follows it's structure, but uses different notes that are usually associated with Asian cuisines to get to a very similar result.

Thank you so much for all of this … this is incredibly interesting.

That mandarin note caught my attention!

Thank you!

That’s funny that you mentioned Le Lion - I received a bottle for my birthday, and adore it 😊

I really like the Millesime Vanilla Planifolia as well … it was such a pleasant surprise to me. I’ve yet to try the EDC.

I have both the edp and edt, and although I find the edp quite cozy as well, prefer the edt for an easier, more versatile wear (if that even makes sense).

Thank you for all of your insight!

I did! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Thank you so very much! Your enthusiasm is contagious, and I’m very excited to try these minis. The EDP and EDT should arrive by Friday and Saturday, respectively - or possibly even sooner, since I’ve received prior packages ahead of their tracking date.

I’ve also ordered a travel spray of Habit Rouge as well, recommended by Pippin06. I’m glad to hear that you speak so highly of it!

I must admit that I’d shied away from the edc because of how widely available it had been, but perhaps I should give it a try as well!
Habit Rouge is phenomenal I love the EDT the most, I've worn the EDP but it's more powdery whereas the EDT has more citrus and the blend imo is a lot nicer it's my favorite Guerlain next to Heritage EDP.
