Free Fragrance Composition Software

Jun 28, 2014
The file size is due to the index of materials, which is decompressed into a data folder, separate from the binary .EXE

Sorry, but if there is no error message on the screen and nothing in the event viewer, then I'm at a loss as to how to fix the error.

Until such time as I have a 64 bit machine, I can't even replicate the issue and attempt to fix it.

If you have another PC (say a 32 bit machine) please try it on that and let me know if it works...

I can usually load 32 bit programs on this PC. I did some research, and sure enough, some Windows 7 and 8 machines can't load ALL 32 bit programs. I even tried changing the compatibility settings. Oh well. Hopefully this will alert others in case they come across the same issue.

No, I don't have a working 32 bit machine. But, when and if you get to making a 64 bit version I would be more than happy to test it out for you and give feedback.

Thanks for all your responses and hard work. This is a much needed program, and I'm glad to see someone making it and making it open source! If I could afford it, I'd send you funds for a 64 bit machine! ;) Maybe you can set up a donations page? At least we can send you something for your hard work! (if you already have one, I didn't see it.)

I just realised that it is possible for me to build the x64 executable on my machine, even though I'm running x86.

I'll PM you with details of the 64-bit version... Please try it out and let me know the result..

Thanks for your encouragement. It's kind words from people like you that keep me going, even when it seems like the rest of the world is against me.

When I see things like this it makes me sad. I did read other threads and think I know what you mean.

All I can say is, that if someone is doing something GOOD for the community, don't bite the hand that feeds you. We are lucky to have people like Wood and Tobacco!

Thank you so much! It installed fine for me on Win 7 64! I will test it out as soon as I can and let you know how it works! Thanks so much for continuing to work on this! I appreciate you! :)

Hello Wood And Tobacoo I have tested it and it is a great software, congratulations!

For the one of you that were not able to run in not windows machines or want a multi-user and massive storage compliance software you can download my application, it is made in java and although it has and old fashioned look and not so many components preloaded as yours it works.
Here is the trial version www.online-isocalculator.com/essencemanager/barrels.zip

Write me if you want to get a long term version .

I am on Mac and unfortunately have had no luck getting this to run with Wine, I'm not willing to install any bit of windows on my computer so unfortunately it looks like i'm going to have to wait until and internet based or Mac version comes out.

I really think the idea of and internet based version with everyone contributing to the materials lists would be great.

The software does look great from the screen shots though, keep it up, Wood and Tobacco!

Hi!

Did you test it on Windows 10? I can't even get it to install properly. Just copies the executable then nothing. I'll try to run in comtatibility mode.

Cheers,

Pelle

Birdie, and all other future readers of this thread:

The person whose nom de plume here is "Wood and Tobacco", last appeared here eight months ago.
This software has never worked.
Wood and tobacco does not seem likely to return and furnish anyone with a properly working copy of this software.

I can't recommend that anyone invest ANY time with this software any longer.

Huh, that's a shame. I only just learned about it through this warning but I think such a program would be pretty nice to have!

What's the current state of play with this project? Are people using it?

Imho there seems to be a slowly growing audience for perfume creation, and some software like this would help a lot of learners get going.

Ignore me, I missed that there'd been later posts. I can't see any major reasons why this never took off besides some installation issues? Is that why this seems to have gone quiet?

For anyone looking to try this, I found just downloading the files without the installer, unzipping them to my desktop, and it works fine. The file without installer is at https://sourceforge.net/projects/parfumpro/files/Resources/Releases/PFP-x64.zip/download

Hey @Leshutch did you try running it in compatibility mode? (right-click on the software icon> troubleshoot compatibility)

I had the last .NET framework package installed but the software refused to run. So I decided to try the compatibility mode (Windows 8) as my last shot ─ and it finally worked.

You can safely disregard the negative comments from a person here who has resented me and been envious since the start

So, it's compiled for x64 Windows. And it has had 3000+ downloads, so I'll let you decide if anyone finds value in it so far, and if it works.

Please make sure you have .NET Framework installed and it will run. If you somehow get an error then send me the details please, I'll fix it for you.

The real purpose of this post:

So many Mac users have asked for a Mac version. Emulators don't seem to work well with Winforms apps. So we need to make a decision:

- Learn a new language for Mac OS X (Objective-C) and rewrite the application for it .. hundreds of hours of work, or

- Port the existing software to a website with encryption, so you can log in without installing anything .. less than 50 hours of work

I have no interest in getting compositions from other people. To be frank hardly anyone has checked the source code of ParfumPro so unless you checked it yourself, how do you know it's not sending me your data already? Well it isn't.. but unless you personally read the code you may as well use a website version.

We already have a couple thousand people using the app and adding/updating materials and information on supply prices, but very few have sent the index file so for the most part everyone is working from the same base data as in 2018!

So do we make a website version of the world's most popular fragrance composition software (yes, it is!)..

Can you trust me? Well, I've been here since 2014. So by now I'm a decent perfumer already. Writing software just to rip off other people's ideas would be a little sad..

Well, if you think that I am jealous, of you or this, that would not be me. Since you did not name the person, (obviously important not to), I cannot know to whom you speak, except that I made a comment from three years ago.
But you disappeared for the past three years, and no one seemed to be able to make it work...

I am glad that you are here again... and I wish you every success.

Thanks Paul. I think we can get along when we try. I can't remember why we had a falling out and it's probably not constructive to go back on the past.

But FWIW I plan on being more active here as time permits. There's still many things pulling me in all directions. It's a balancing act..

Version 3.8 doesn't open at all. The prior works fine and it is already a great program.
It's pretty good, but so far I would suggest: change the interface a little, especially to permit to change the size of the window, boxes inside, and even the font so as permitting more workspace. At the present are many people that use big screens at 4k resolutions. Why to squint at a little window with the little letters?
Another thing: for tags would work many other notes such as: amber, creamy, ambergris, oud, citrusy, aldehyde, soft, powdery, etc.

Have you tried 4.0? Does it give an exception on startup? If so, please copy and paste it here.

Also, you might want to try upgrading your .NET Framework.

Maybe the window could be expanded but I'm not sure what would occupy the space.

Other tags could be added.. but I don't have additional data and very few people have sent their index files back..

No message, just it doesn't want to start (no task manager sign that it was started). I have the last NET Framework on my windows 10.
In version 3.7, if I want to export index I get a non responding program. I would upload the index every time I put new fragrances info.
A custom font would be great for people with a bad vision. Add custom tag feature would be perfect.
From where I can get the 4.0 version? From Sourceforge I've got 3.8 as being the last released 5 months ago.
Thanks.
