Finally got Fahrenheit

Been wanting Fahrenheit for a while, but was holding back due to cost. Wife went to the UK to visit family, and picked me up some in the Duty Free Shop at London Heathrow. Actually got it for a pretty good price. I assume this is a current batch, and wondering if others have longevity probs with Big F.

Doesn't seem too good to me, unless I spray like 4 times, and work outside a little bit or do something like that to warm up my skin or make me sweat a little. Then it radiates and I can smell it a while longer. Indoors, wife can't smell it on me after just 1-1/2 to hours or so.

Any other opinions/observations on current Fahrenheit?? If there's a consensus that current longevity is poor, I am not above selling it.

Congrats on a classic, the poor longevity must be down to reformulation. I have a bottle from 2010 and one spray lasts a long time it and projects really well. Have they kept that dirty oil accord, so unique to that particular scent.

It's dated but so good!

I think my bottle is from 2017-2019ish and it has really good performance on me. Usually lasts 8 to 10 hours and loud for about 3 to 4 hours.

The Dior sprayers have a longish action, so it's easy to spray too little if you're shy on the trigger. Could that be an issue?

Sadly, it has been reformulated so many times that I'm lost at which years its still good. Several years ago, I researched that the last real strong long lasting and petroleum smelling was 2016. It then got watered down, then the petroleum note change to violet smelling, and then they changed it back to smelling good. That was the last of it I remember. Not sure the status of it these days. I hunted down two bottles of 2016 and called it a day.

May I suggest that the performance will likely improve after the bottle aerates and matures some? I always find this to be the case.

Good advise. Lost count how many full bottles upon purchase really don't meet expectations... from sampling or decants, even after several wears. I leave it alone for a while, eventually revisiting it to find it much more enjoyable and up-to-par.

Congratulations! Hopefully it opens up for you, I'd give it a couple months and more wears before you sell it.

That's a shame. I suggest spraying some on the back of your hand and spraying some on a piece of paper at the same time.
Check each at say the two and three hour mark.
If both are weak, reformulation is the problem.
If it's only weak on your hand and strong on the paper, your skin is the problem - it does happen.
That's why I usually spray scents on my hands and wander around for a few hours to see how they perform on my skin.

From a personal viewpoint alone, the current version of this has a still decent performance and does therefore not justify selling, as much as keeping this to be worn and enjoyed (if liking its notes).

My 2020 bottle is a very good performer - maybe not the full on beast mode of vintage years, but 2 sprays lasts all day, 3 is usually overkill.

Bear in mind, it's easy to go to noseblind to Fahrenheit, so if you're spraying close to your face, it could be that. It's something like 25% ISO E, and I have similar issues with other ISO E-heavy frags like Terre d'Hermes, Burberry London, Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee, etc. I've also had this happen with Fahrenheit a few times, but now I'm just careful to spray further down on my chest and away from my neck and face and I get great performance.

EDIT: I realize you mentioned your wife can't smell it, so maybe that's not the issue, unless she's going noseblind from close contact or repeated exposure? Hard to say.

I have a batch from this year -my very first bottle. I can't make a final judgement just yet as it still needs some maceration. I get 4-5 hours out of it as of now but it does project. I am hoping I get the all day longevity that some here talk about but at the moment I'm not getting the performance I get put of other Dior fragrances I own. Having said that, I bought it a little over a month ago so it's still new. I may be going nose blind as well as I do have a problem with iso e super. I bought Dior homme 2020 some months ago and I go nose blind very easily with that one. But with Fahrenheit I'm a bit let down by the performance NOT by the scent which is a masterpiece in my opinion. I will definitely give it more time to mature.
I had the exact same problem with DHI a year ago.
I was so disappointed at first as it seemed so weak. Over a year later it's like a totally different fragrance now. Strong rich and wonderful.
This past week has been horrible anyway.
I caught covid last week and I cannot smell anything.

Yeah. I'll never forget when I first smelled the tester strip back in 2016 (the year I started the hobby).......I was like 'wow'. I bought it on the spot. Since I was rather new to fragrance I had no clue that it was a decades-old beloved fragrance. I thought I found something 'new' on the shelf. LOL. Fahrenheit is timeless. It doesn't have a smell that has an 'age'. It's always young and ready for fun.

Absolute is a great flanker. I might like it more than the original. It was discontinued, so contrats on having it. I think I might have a backup of it too.

@bigsteve - how did this work out for you? I was somewhat shocked when I first read that your wife could not detect it after such a short period of time. My current bottle which is probably from 2021 has no such issues. As a matter of fact I don’t recall ever having perf issues with any formulation of the edt over the past 10 years or so. Has the situation changed?

I wore a vintage bottle yesterday, maybe 6 sprays on clothes. I “get” Fahrenheit, in that I feel that I appreciate it more than ever. And it is a very challenging and difficult perfume to appreciate. It is extremely unusual, complex, different from most anything out there.

There are other violet leaf top note scents, and many are very good. But Fahrenheit is something else. It would never be created today, and it is a miracle that it is still for sale and still quite good.

Old Fahrenheit was spicy, leafy, floral/violet, aromatic fragrance. New Fahrenheit smells like leather, with bergamot and a gasoline note. There is a glimpse of old Fahrenheit in there somewhere, but it's missing a lot of the depth and color that it used to have in my opinion.

My 2020 bottle is also excellent. 2 sprays goes most of the day, 3 or more gets beastly. I haven't done a side by side with the vintage stuff, but my step dad had a bottle around in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. He rarely wore it but I often snuck sprays; my current bottle smells almost exactly how I remember it.

My experiences with recent Fahrenheit batches from 2015 and onward:

When I first officially sampled it via testers around 2015-2017 it had this wonderful petrol/gasoline vibe to it. When I actually wore it on skin, after a few hours I felt that it got too dirty in the dry down, to the point that it made me insecure. The 2015-[?] tall neck Polo has a similar effect, imo: the dry down gets very dirty to the point of smelling unclean. Now, I don't know if my taste and sense of smell was just really unsophisticated back then and it was just a case of me not being able to appreciate intentionally "dirty" scents back then, or...it just didn't have a good dry down.

I later sampled and wore Fahrenheit around 2018 which is when it got reformulated again, and I noticed that it was no longer dirty or had that unclean vibe in the drydown. It was far more agreeable and a pleasant wear. I bought a bottle and was happy.

As I started to wear it more, I found the new dry down too sweet for my tastes, and I started to miss that "dirty" dry down from the previous batches. The latest reform seems to be a little too sweet, and I thought the whole point of Fahrenheit was to smell like an auto repair shop. The sweetness, combined with that dated huffy/stuffy vibe is why I tossed out my bottle.

It's still a top tier fragrance, but I feel that adding some sweetness in order to it to make it more palatable for modern noses has made it more conventional, and less artistic, less unique.

Wait...the gasoline note isn't there at all in the original vintage formulation? Or do you mean it's just way more prominent in reformulation?

I know the strength of that note has varied over the years, but I always smelled the aggressive gasoline accord in the original formulation.

Wow, you've got a vintage oldest version of Fahrenheit, great congratulations. I also have a vintage Fahrenheit from the 1988 production year and it is just like some people wrote a few posts below - that the Fahrenheit from the first productions (is) was more aromatic - I agree it was more aromatic like a refreshing Fahrenheit mist in the top notes and this aromatic opening long in the historic-oldest versions of Fahrenheit. However, I have years of, among others, 2018 and 2019 and there is no such effect as a crisp, aromatic Fahrenheit fragrant mist, because in 2018 and 2019, this aromatic effect is simply very reduced and thus it disappears quickly and there are petrol violet and leather notes. which have their very good sides in the sense that the projection is good, I feel about 6 hours and the durability is calmly over 12 hours, these 2018 and 2019 Fahrenheit years.

I read that 2012 is when they watered it down. I hunted down the oldest bottle I could like 7 years ago... The one I have is batch 2U04 it was made first half of 2012, so I don't know if it is pre or post reformulation. I never managed to find out.

I'd need someone that has a 2011 or bit earlier bottle with the box to tell me what the formula number on the bottom (bottom right corner) of the box says. Mine is 04777/A if anyone can help me out I'd be grateful.

Shnitter,My Fahrenheit from 2008, a photo of the bottom of the package from 2008 and has the formula code No 01881 / A, and the look and color is the same as the 4th edition - from this blog I gave you the link, the cardboard box is black and the rest is almost all red and silver Fahrenheit and Dior below. I use them mainly in fall, winter and early spring, I put it somewhere and I have to look for it because that's what I have. My formula is a different previously released 2008 version, and yours already saw a different Fahrenheit formula, aaa they changed these perfume formulas, it could be the first one with a cardboard box looking like planet Mars.

I'm wearing today (obviously)!! I got my current bottle from Ulta about three years ago or so and it's loud! Very strong violet/ petrol in this.
