Curious About Attar

By day I’m a software engineer. By night I’m a novice fragrance tinkering fool. I’ve spent a lot of money on aroma compounds (I have about 200) to satisfy my curiosity. On my own I haven’t been able to create anything useful.., but I’ve learned a lot and I have gained a greater appreciation and respect for those know who know what they’ve doing and create the fragrances I like.

Though the aroma compounds I have vary in strength, it seems like they are not nearly as strong as the few attars I have tried. What is it about attars that makes them so strong? What do they make them out of? I know they are concentrated (haven’t been diluted with alcohol, d. glycol or other things), but still, they smell significantly stronger than the aroma compounds I have.

Are you sure that the attar's you've smelled, are made with the same kind of aroma compounds you're familiar with?

I am not a pro on Attars (although I am sure some of them will see this thread and reply) but some the Attars from abroad are definitely full of synthetic aroma chemicals (others are not) even if the Attar creators tell you it's all natural sometimes that's a lie. Others in the industry are honest and transparent about what's in their Attars. I would surmise that the ones that are 'strong' to your nose probably have been bolstered by some synthetics. Which is a good thing, in this case.

I don't have a problem with wearing something all natural or natural/synthetic or all synthetic - as long as it smells good.
