The best vetiver in 2023 will depend on what style vetiver someone enjoys, more earthy or more clean and also whether you want a pure vetiver scent or a blend with a prominent vetiver note. Personally, none of what you offer as 'the best' vetiver is the best to me.

From your list only:
  • For clean, Original Vetiver.
  • For classic, Guerlain.
  • For modern classic, Grey Vetiver.
  • For a slightly refined and also overpriced version of Grey Vetiver, go with the Roja.
In all honesty, broadly speaking, there's not massive differences between vetiver fragrances. Vetiver is a very distinct smell, with fragrances of the genre giving you merely more earthy or less earthy interpretations with added soapy cleanliness or earthy dirtiness.

My favorite(s):
  • Overall, Guerlain Vetiver Eau de Cologne as it strikes a very nice middle ground between pure vetiver oil but not too classic and as @epapsiou told me years ago when he introduced me to it, "it's vetiver crack!" There's also an ever so slight tobacco note, that some don't pick up, that adds a nice roundness to the bottom.
  • Classic but leaning pure oil, Carven Vetiver. Opens with a classic vibe to tickle vintage fragrance lovers fancy, but dries down to nearly a neat oil smell and with great longevity on my skin.
  • For formal occasions, Creed Vetiver 1948. Vetiver and ginger over that classic Creed ambergris base? Reads like a major car crash but wears like a zesty fresh classy beauty. Great blending was apparently the key. Who knew?
  • Informal daily, Encre Noir Sport or, if I need/want more soapiness then Prada Infusion d'Vetiver or Mugler Cologne or Vetiver Insolent etc etc etc.

I don’t know about “best”, best is subjective.
But out of that list, I’d reach for the Guerlain over all the others.

I’ve tried a lot of vetivers and spent a lot of money on them over the years, only to find myself choosing to wear Guerlain Vetiver 9 times out of 10.

Unfortunately I never tried the Guerlain, but something tells me it's the winner here.
I personally like Creed OV for the freshness.
I used to love Nishane Sultan vetiver but find it a bit harsh. Still super nice vetiver.
My third is Vet G16 by Note di profumo.
Cheers!

I will add, that I find the heavier/ darker vetivers shine more in the colder weather, especially on cold rainy days.
Whereas I find Guerlain Vetiver works year round in almost any weather (and shines brightest on rainy spring days).

So there is a place for both In one’s wardrobe.

Definitely the Guerlain from the current list, but there are lots of incredible vetivers worth trying. The key is figuring out what type of vetiver scent you like, as they vary quite a bit. Something like Creed's Original Vetiver is extremely wearable (it's basically Mugler Cologne with some pizzazz), but it won't scratch the itch if you want an earthy or sharp vetiver. Some of my favorites include:
  • Chanel Sycomore (vetiver, cypress, sandalwood)
  • Givenchy Vetyver (nutty, round, autumnal vetiver soliflore)
  • Guerlain Vetiver (spicy green vetiver, tobacco, and clove)
  • Hiram Green Vetiver (gorgeous "all natural" take on vetiver, paired with ginger)
  • Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Route du Vetiver (earthy, dank, beastly vetiver + blackcurrant; very hardcore)
  • Parfum d'Empire Vetiver Bourbon (naturalistic, earthy, sharp vetiver soliflore - like a goldilocks blend of Givenchy, Guerlain, and MpG)
  • Jovoy Private Label (dark, earthy vetiver, birch tar leather, and raw patchouli over a rich labdanum base; my SOTD!)
  • Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental (earthy green vetiver with iris, guaiac, and cacao; soft, round, slightly weird)
Sycomore is probably the most wearable of the bunch, but I highly recommend sampling any / all of the above.

Yeah, as much as I might prefer a few others for this reason or that, Guerlain Vetiver is still the one I reach for most. Killer price, killer performance, killer composition, and it just feels right every time I wear it.

Guerlain Vetiver EDT is one of those rare, perfectly conceived fragrances. And it's still in stunning form today!

(It's also atypical for Guerlain, which built its reputation on a somewhat thick, opulent style.)

This was an interesting poll kind of highlighting that Guerlain Vetiver is sort of the benchmark vetiver.

I've tried them all and everything listed is a fine vetiver scent, but Guerlain was there first, is reasonably priced and performs well.

Though it is a vetiver, Original Vetiver is the biggest outlier in that group. More clean and soapy than grassy.

There are a lot of vetivers not listed that many prefer but Guerlain holds it own.

Personally, I'm now a fan of Legrand Royal Bourbon Vetiver (minty) and Jovoy Private Label (dark, dark earthy vetiver w/leather). I also love the now defunct Creed Vetiver (1948), but that too is sort of an outlier.

100%.

Very true and succinctly expressed.

Guerlain Vetiver is on a very short list of scents I just think any Basenoter with over 4-5 scents should just buy.
Good for old, young, business, casual. You name it.

I have sampled all the frags I listed above except Guerlain! The only Guerlain I tried was the lhomme ideal cologne and didn't really care for it. You guys convince me to order their vetiver.

I’m a big Vetiver lover and out of those listed the Guerlain really is fantastic, especially for the price point. The Roja would be 2nd place for me, it’s a great daily but the Parfum version is amazing. For a hard to find it would be Creed Vetiver 1948, this is probably my favourite that I own and I treasure the bottle I have, I’ll likely never have another :(

That's a good move.

People could argue some differences, but to me Guerlain smells quite similar to the Roja and Malle. And it's way less expensive.

The Tom Ford and Creed are a bit different.

I think you'll be pleased and your wallet will love you. And it's not just simply out of thrift or because we're bargain hunters that many of us are suggesting the Guerlain.

I love Vetiver fragrances, all types. If you want a good vetiver for everyday use that won't break the bank look for Le Vetiver Carven Eau de Parfum white bottle with the wood cap. Almost as good as TF Grey Vetiver.

I’ll second Hermes Vetiver Tonka if you want a warmer vetiver. Sycomore is probably my favorite. TF Grey Vetiver is nice and clean, upscale. Creed OV is soapy and fresh, an everyday vetiver to me. All great choices

Guerlain Vetiver is the crowd pleaser. People like it and don’t even know what Vetiver is. It’s an easy “grab & go”.

For something more special I seek out Dior Vetiver and my favorite - Floris Vetiver

This (Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire) it's my favorite and most enjoyable to wear vetiver. But I must say having tried many vetivers since, it is probably the least vetiver smelling vetiver of all the vetivers. But it is that vetiver scrubbed clean that makes it so pleasant and easy to wear.
