BDC EDP or DH2020

Thanks both, AJ515 I don't take it as 'trite' at all.
NCFR, I have a sample of BDC EDP but not of DH2020. What is it you prefer about DH2020? They are both blue style frags, both have similar although not identical far dry downs, but very different opening despite both being woodsy overall?

Apples and oranges in my view.

BdC EdP is a woody sensual in Chanel's own words. It's much smoother than the EdT and leans sweet. It's not as woody as the Parfum or the Dior and goes ambery in the base. I don't get any incense from it in the traditional sense, which is in contrast to the EdT.

DH2020 is a long lasting woody scent (mostly due to ISO E Super) in a modern style (i.e. no oakmoss) that is easy to wear. I do not get any "blue" vibes from it at all. It's as smooth as paper with no rough ages whatsoever.

Hi Rum, so which do you prefer?

I'd be interested in which one and why?
Seems they would both serve the same purpose despite not smelling too alike, although there is a slight similarity in the dry downs.
Own and like both and really have no preference. A bottle of either one should work well for you.

You're correct, they serve similar purposes and there are some similarities as you'd expect from Chanel and Dior fragrances released around the same time.

My advice would be: neither.

Dior 2020 by a mile. All BDC have this airy feel to it, also they turn somehow soury on the drydown....where Dior is a lot more deeper, rounded, velvety, woodier, etc.

Both very nice. The differences have been well explained. I prefer BdC EDP but would be happy with either, honestly. When BdC came out, my wife bought it as a gift for me but that edt turned sour on my skin. It was really bad and thankfully I had a sample to try before opening the gift. We returned it and I forgot about it. Fast forward to the beginning of this year and I was sampling fragrances with my brother @Mythrol and tried the EDP on a whim. No sour note! In the BdC line, the EDP is my Goldilocks. To make sure, I went through 10ml and ended up by a bottle. If you’re loving BdC edp then you could get a bottle and be perfectly happy. But I’d recommend sampling the Dior as it’s a good fragrance and this will truly come down to what resonates best with you.

This surprises me Rum, incense is one of the notes and I find it more noticeable in the EDP than the EDT.
Different noses I supposes.

Exactly. That's why my humble forum could mean the world to one nose and be absolute rubbish to the next.
Follow your own nose. Everything is so subjective when it comes to scents.

Not really a fan of either, but if put to the decision, I'd go BDC.

I wanted to like DH2020 and enjoyed it on paper, but the opening bergamot goes insanely sour on my skin. I'm not usually sensitive to citrus, but this one was a scrubber. BDC isn't really my style, but you can't argue that it's successful at what it's going for. Personally, I prefer the Parfum by a mile over the EDT and EDP, but reasonable minds can differ.

From a personal, subjective viewpoint-would go for BDC EDP, having so far gotten better performance from this, apart from liking this fragrance quite a bit (however with the disclaimer of recommending caution before a purchasing decision, even more so if not being much of a BDC EDP fan).

Thanks.
I managed to pop into a store yesterday and had a couple of decent sprays of DH2020 on my arm.
It was pretty nuclear to be honest and very nice. However I can’t explain why but it started to get on my nerves after a while. I’m the polar opposite of a snob but it was very synthetic, even to my inexperienced nose.
I get the ‘candy corn’ comment, it was nice but also kind if annoying.
I’m starting to veer towards the BDC EDP, although I reckon I’d like DH Sport 2017. Can’t be had for sensible money though.

I get what you mean, on longer wears DH2020 can annoy slightly, the note remains quite constantly present in the air around you.
Dior Homme Sport 2021 'fixes' it for me, never get bothered smelling it all day long.

My experience has been the opposite. DH2020 lasts all day on me with one or two sprays max. It doesn't ever get dominant, but I find I can wear nothing else alongside it (i.e. no sampling scents with this on, no additional afternoon or evening scents either).

DH2020 had a much better dry down than the Sport 2021/22 version, which to my nose went a completely different direction to the more woody 2020.

Dior Homme EDT 2020 not as mainstream and not used as much excellent year round versatile fragrance.

Chanel Bleu De Chanel EDP no introduction needed jack of all trades versatile excellent smelling fragrance.

I’d opt for Dior Homme EDT 2020 if you want something new and to stand out a bit.

Last coupe of times I've worn DH2020, the dry-down gets to be a bit… too much… cloying I suppose.

I find one or two sprays at most with DH2020 is optimum. It lasts all day on me and doesn't ever get annoying or cloying in any way. I would be wary where you spray this one... I suspect in the neck (i.e. too close to your nose) is going to cause anosmia or other nose tricks. Less is more with this one. You got to love woods to like it, even though it's quite a simple, generic smell with plenty of aromachems.

As someone that has owned at used the Bleu Parfum since it was released in 2018, I have been experimenting with the EdT and EdP recently. The EdP is definitely the bridge that joins the EdT with the Parfum, so if one is not familiar with all three, perhaps the EdP is the safest one to go for. However, I find I'm enjoying the EdT these days as well as the Parfum. It would definitely work better for a hot and summery climate or as a (summer) holiday scent.
