Kouiro no Miyako arrived. Like the other anniversaries, this is true to the Miyako form, sharing a similar progression of notes.

On opening, I get a pleasant sweet, camphoric oud on white musk, osmanthus and nutmeg. If you've tried Hikayat's Pewaris attar you will find a lot of similarity. The expected orris butter is omnipresent. As it dries, the perfume converges closer to Miyako, losing the woody textures to floral ones, like green tea and peach.

Oily, moderate projection, performance until you wash it off. As it settles from travel, I'm sure things will change. It's nice, but not a favorite!

It's available again. Last few bottles, get these guyszzzz!!! I don't get though how their pricing works. Miyako is almost the same price but uses no oud. Whatever.

I'm gonna try Oud Binturong today. It's been sitting for a week while I went through other stuff. I must say, I'm very excited, let's hope it's at least as good as other of their earlier releases.

I personally didnt find Oud Binturong as good as the original, their latest output certainly isnt close to the quality of the earlier stuff imo. It's not that their stuff is bad, it's still decent perfume, just that it doesn't really compare to what they used to do and I don't see myself supporting them with the crappy way they run their business.

Thanks for the info. Luckily, I have not tried the original Binturong, so I can't be disappointed in that regard.

It's still a good perfume, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Their sweet ambery oud accord pairs well with the original formula. No point seeking out the original if you have this, save yourself the time and effort

Oud Binturong is amazing, I love it. Only the first wear but I'd say this one is a tie already with Miyako for me. It's just as complex and well put together/blended, just as mysterious but darker, and richer. I'd say, Miyako is the one for Spring and Summer, and this one is for Autumn and Winter.
It's just so well put together that it's almost impossible to tell what notes/accords I'm smelling, it rather comes together as a whole. It has this thick base layer that is woody, musky, smoky, and earthy, on top of which you have florals, a creamy orris, something sweet, and spices. It almost has this gourmand thing to it, which makes me think of a very high-quality cocoa butter spread on whole-wheat biscuits, but if I put my nose close to it that savory-gourmand facet fades away and is mostly perceivable in the air. This one is for sure very complex and interesting. It feels to me like a Sultan Pasha composition, in the way they blended Oriental perfumery with classic French perfumery. Parts of it make me think of something like Thebes, with that chalky-orris, earthy-woody base, parts of it make me think of Morah with that creamy floral-opium-incense and civet combo. It is unique though, and an amazing blind buy, I think it was my first purchase this year, by far the best so far, and definitely one of my best in the last 2 years. Because is darker than Miyako and more mysterious, this one has the potential to surpass it for me. It definitely surpasses the others that I own, Mayura, Bing Ma Yong, and Tenmoku I.
Funny thing, I received that lotion cream with my order as a gift, and I smelt it before testing the perfume, and thought, "Holy shit, this smells incredible, I wonder if the perfume smells the same, that'd be amazing". Well, it does, and I'll definitely apply the lotion on my neck and face and layer it with the perfume for the ultimate experience, oh boy. I have to say, as much as these brothers suck as business owners, their perfumes make up for that.

I’ve spent more time with Kouiro no Miyako and must say it’s not different enough from Miyako for me to consider it a novel perfume. Regretful purchase.

It will be interesting to see what drops next week. I’m wondering though — remember the days when they had new packaging for each perfume and the compositions had a different base? The 30mL sizes? Now everything is solvated in the same carrier oil and comes in their overstocked attar boxes.

To give you more perspective on the packaging, i have taken one of the old boxes apart, and what it had is few layers of cubed foam, that was wrapped in silk material, and then hand pinned with about 30 or so pins into a place. So this "pillow" on which box rested was looking flawless. Good ol' days 😌

What are the previous Imperial Oud perfumes released to date? I can't remember for the life of me. And how would you rank them? I'm thinking about getting the upcoming one. Of course, I need to see a note breakdown first.
Edit: why did I even bother, didn't remember half of them 🤣

I've tried too few to rank, but I regret selling my Padishah bottle. That one was great.

cuir oud, chypre oud, musc oud, oud de nyonya, oud binturong, oud iparxan, encens oud huangdi, oud lanlingwan, tabac oud

Chypre oud probably my favourite, then the rest kinda eh. Oud binturong is kinda just binturong, de nyonya js smells like eau de nyonya. Huangdi and lanlingwang arent that innovative, iparxan is an exception but its not their best. Cuir and musc oud were kind of deriviative, tbf chypre oud is too - i just like it because i like that style.

The imperial oud collection used to mean something before they threw oud into every release to justify a jacked up price

I agree with both, but to me imperial oud collection is like a mix. It started with musk, chypre, cuir and then slowly added lanlingwang and stuff like that.
I dont consider all oud releases part of it, especially nyonya and binturong, tabac oud and others.
This new release seems to be something between og releases and lanlingwang stylistically, so i am interested what notes breakdown itll be.

I wish they wouldnt have lumped stuff like binturong or nyonya under the "imperial oud collection", at least in their official descriptions. It cheapens how "special" the collection is in some sense. What we personally consider as part of it is a different story.

Should have kept it to maybe a big special release a year, that would be nicer. Personally I'd say musk, chypre, cuir, tabac and iparxan ought to be part of it.

Oud binturong - nothing like old binturong, at least at this point in time.
I wore it a few times and while its nice - to me its different composition.
Old one was great representative of their original style of perfume making and fell in this brown aged CdR and Salome style fragrances.
New one is still that category, but its almost unrecognizable due to loads and loads of orris butter. It moved into a balmy territory, and actual musk is one of key players here as well turning Oud Binturong a shade darker. At the background there is a perfume that might have been original binturong, but its presense can be compared to a person standing behind a huge crowd or orris and musk, and you can only see its fingers, thus suspecting its a person you know, but cant confirm it it trully is.
One thing that i started to notice more and more is that clarity of notes suffered alot. Current compositions are a bit muddled and too oily for no reason.
I will dillute a few sprays in alcohol to see if it improved anything, but i dont expect much.

Agree with this description.
I do like it though when compositions are hard to break apart, it ads to the mystery.

from the everyday post on instagram, and marketing done by Auphorie about this new release I'd guess that the price of the new release will be high
hopefully I'm wrong

I went for it. Doesnt seem like Miyako on the notes. One can do different things with Osmanthus
Hope the notes is muddled.

Different matter, anyone tried Oud Bintorang recently. Yesterday I got something reminding of wafts of fecal oud from it. Must have developed a bit since last time

Same. The oakmoss is what interests me. Maybe they are going for a floral-oud-chypre with this. Let's see...

"On top of that, for a nice play of contrasts, oakmoss, white sandalwood, orris butter, honey, infusions of finely aged ambergris and musk were added to further enrich and complete this classically-inspired, full-bodied, sophisticated scent composition..."

I also got it. I thought the same at first, another Myiako, but it seems more grounded withe the ouds, orris, and moss. Also, different opening with herbs, and mandarin peel. Besides all that, I love Osmanthus. If they do something similar to what they did in Oud Binturong in terms of depth and richness of the composition, it will be good enough for me.
