Artesan/Niche/Alternatives to Dior Oud Ispahan

Hello,

I just got a 10ml decant of Dior's Oud Ispahan. It was a great first love of mine, along with Leather Oud, a few years back. I preferred Oud Ispahan because of its rose. Smelling it again, I was slightly repulsed by the oud note, which smelled a bit synthetic to me. It actually reminded me of the oud note in Ajmal's 'Incense' from their Purely Orient line, which is just way too overpowering.

I still love the rose, which smells pungent, dark, wet, slightly candied to me. My question: does anyone have any suggestions for close alternatives that smell less nuclear? I know Oud Palao is often cited, but I'm not sure that one does it for me...

I love the rose in Oud Ispahan as well -- I just wish it didn't have that gross fecal oud on the bottom. Give Cartier's Oud and Rose a try.

Big fan of the original Leather Oud and Wasser's take on the same accord for Guerlain, Songe d'un Bois d'Ete.

That said, if it's the darker rose thing you're after perhaps Amouage Lyric Woman might scratch that itch? Love the stuff! :)

Thanks for the recs (keep them coming). I'm well-acquainted with Montale's Black Aoud, which I have a love-hate relationship to (it never seems to satisfy my first olfactive memory of smelling it a few years ago. hmm... I wonder if this is just my nose changing and evolving or it can be truly chalked up to reformulations). Oud Palao is extremely similar but I seem to remember the rum/sweetness in it to not be to my liking.

Zegna's Indonesian Oud has been on my try list for a looooong time.

I actually want to throw in a suggestion of something I just came across: Prin's Anatolia Anatolia. It's odd; rose isn't listed as an ingredient but Turkish delight is often made with rose water and the apple/patch/suede/honey/incense seem to be doing a lot of the same work as the listed notes for Oud Ispahan.

+1 Zegna Indonesian Oud.

Would highly recommend Sultan Pasha's Al Hareem and Ensar Rose as end-game in the rose-oud genre. Al Hareem would be a direct replacement for Oud Ispahan, whereas Ensar Rose is rose offset with a deft touch of oud.
