I’ve heard good things about this house recently here on Basenotes & from peeps whose taste I trust

would like to hear more

always down for a good chypre which Angeliki seems to be & yloud - yloud also picked my interest

finally, it sounds like they are celebrating the one year anniversary of the brand or website (unclear) & are offering an attar which also sounds great

please share your thoughts

I wanted to try Tabac Libre but the coffee note was a concern for me. I had messaged him on Instagram months ago asking about the coffee note and I got a response but I just never ordered a sample. I don’t tend to sample, usually just buy a bottle and hope to like it.

Luckyscent has samples of it I believe. You like to live dangerously I guess.
I don't get any coffee in Libre. It's very complex, I'd say too much of everything, the reason why it didn't work for me.

Wore Angeliki today so I figured I'd give my opinion on it.

This is definitely a vintage chypre in feel but with a modern, almost oriental twist to it. Think of combining the classic chypre top and heart with an Oriental base, and then use unique floral accords in the heart to make it 100% different and beautiful.
The opening is a blast of aldehydes with some pomelo-like citrus accord, I don't get any of the other fruity accords listed, and it only lasts for a brief this opening. It then moves to the heart where I feel Angelos really outdid himself by choosing a selection of floral accords that are not only very difficult to pull off but seldomly used in perfumery, never mind in classic chypre-structured perfumes. Wisteria, Lilac, and Fresia. I am very familiar with the way these smell in real life, and he nailed it here. The Heart is all about this huge floral bouquet, sitting on top of the thick mossy-resinous-musky base that starts to creep in slowly. Finally dries down to a mossy, chewy leather, resinous, musky base. Leathery castoreum, smoky labdanum, bitter moss, pissy civet. All in all, an amazing ride, with clear, distinct, and smooth stages and transitions, unique, bold, and lovely. I'm a huge Cypre and vintage-style perfumes lover, but I think anyone with a good nose would be able to appreciate the craft behind this one. I think for Vintage perfume lovers and chypre lovers, this is a safe blind buy and a must-have. Of course, some insecure males out there will say "Oh but it's too floral for me, makes me unsure of my masculinity" but hold on a second, because there's plenty of testosterone in the base to kick back your self-esteem, easy peasy, and you'll feel a male again.

Today with Danse Lascive, a blind buy for me, something that I rarely do nowadays. Went in blind just because I really trust this guy and heard some very positive feedback from a few good noses who tried it at Esxcence. And yeah, it's a home run all the way.
This is a glorious Leather perfume. This is what Malle's Rose & Cuir should have been, This is what any Rose and Leather perfume should be.
This is a leather perfume, first and foremost. Black, biker leather jacket, really smoky as well, kinda like "cigarette smoke can't see shit in a bar" type of smoke, also really dry, kind of dusty. I assume the tobacco and the olibanum create that cigarette smoke accord and the vetiver with the labdanum give off the dry quality. Black leather, smoky, animalic, butch, just how I like them. But then Angelos decides to give it a nice balance, a bit of a twist, a spark, and a touch of eroticism, by adding rose. The Rose is always present, but it mellows the leather, tames it, and never competes with it. It's there to make things more sexy and support the main player. Natural smelling rose, that in the opening starts almost metallic green, I assume from the pairing with geranium. They really dance together, the smoky leather and the rose to the very end in this incredibly sexy duet. The animalics in the base bring the final touch, to an already full of spark perfume. I've smelt loads of leathers and curated some of the best, this is right up there. You get the full spectrum of leather here. And what I love the most, is unique, and different, something that's hard to come by these days.

I'd add, if it reminds me of anything, it'd be Sultan Pasha's Ame Sombre, mostly the frankincense and rose pairing, has a similar feel, but that one has no leather.

Tabac Libre has one of the best openings I've ever smelled. Pure magic! Smells of moist raspberries, plums, tobacco, rum, cognac, with an almost fir balsam jamminess tied into that smell, which is like catnip to me. Mmmmm...

That opening lasts for about 10 minutes on my skin and then it mellows into a spicy, moist tobacco scent. I do smell a small bit of coffee in it's evolution, but it's definitely not problematic to me. I think you should get a sample and smell it so you can decide. Honestly, I think I might be addicted to this one. Gonna need a FB for sure. 👍

So far for me, it's Tabac Libre and Fougeriste that I'm gonna need...LOL.

Oh, and thank you to Dr B1414 for mentioning this brand in another thread! Some wonderful fragrances by this house to be sure!
