Just sampled Rising Mysore Extrait.
The opening is really herbal & spicy. I get a lot of cardamom & bay leaf. Actually reminded me of La Nuit de L’homme for a second. Tbh the opening is not crazy good, but as soon as it settles and the citrus/sandalwood kicks in it is really nice. Creates a really beautiful cloud around you. This is getting better by the minute.
So if you are testing RM: give it some time!

Recieved RME this afternoon. Opens with a blast of mixed fruits and flower bouquet. Prominent identifiable notes were ruh genda (marigold) and ruh chameli (jasmine), with a squeeze of orange/lime. Just a few minutes in, and the citrus becomes prominent with the tulsi (holy basil) peeking through ever-so-often. The top notes are very enjoyable for 20-30 minutes, which leads to a creamy spice mix - bay leaf, clove, cinnamon, and a black pepper tingle are very distinguishable to my nose. The ruh genda and orange/lime keeps the transition binded between the top and middle notes - very pleasant transformation IMO. This phase sticks around for a couple hours, before slowly shifting to a cozy patchouli-resin based base. The movement from top to middle to base was extremely satisfying. The DNA of RME has an ethereal airy feel, so don't expect stellar performance (unfortunately); in 4-5 hours, this becomes a skin scent and projection suffers considerably even though it's marketed as an extract. I had missed the opportunity on the original RM cologne, so would love to hear from folks who have tried both the cologne and the extract versions. I believe this house will be releasing the same original RM cologne version by the end of the year, which could double as a great after-shave IMO, especially if they continue on the same ruh genda / orange / sweet spice mix.

From what they said on social, I’m lead to believe it’s the original formula in extrait concentration, which was also a huge pull for me. Love the OG, which I was able to sample due to the kindness of @Dothraki , btw, where ya been Dothraki?
Been hiding in my music cave working on some projects…slathering up with ouds and musks haha. Still here but in a bit of a hibernation right now. I’ll have quite a bit of catching up to do lol.

That’s very interesting. I haven’t smelled the new one at all but my Og Rising Mysore doesn’t have a ton of florals or dried fruits. Just lots of spices, basil, and citruses. This actually sounds a lot more complex and even better at least for my tastes. I might try and trade off the last 30-40ml’s of my OG and score some of this.

Just got my RM extrait yesterday, I’ve only tried 2 and 3 so can’t compare it to the original but I’m liking it so far. Way more complex than either of the ones I’ve tried. More emphasis on sandal than 2 and a much deeper, rounder floral component than in 3.

Very quiet projection after about an hour but I’m getting a fairly strong musk on my wrist after 12 hours and a shower.

Call me nuts, but I'm not sure what you're asking me!

I don't have that one yet, if I remember right, it's not going to ship for a week or two.
I remeber you mentioned that you purchased that small release of "The last Regal" and was curious if you got it yet and if you are ready to review.
Regarding "bargain" - compared to the "Sur"real new release - it looks like one 🙃

For my first purchases from D&G i jumped in and bought full bottles of Rising Mysore "Extrait" and emperors Court, and I have mixed feelings. Could someone tell me how RME is an extrait?, it has weak projection and abysmal longevity (max 2 hours) I did a side by side with old spice and they were very similar in strength. Smell is ok but nothing special. Emperors Court though is a beauty and I can see myself using this quite a bit. I also got 5ml sample of Hindi Tabac, Emperor Hind and Ghaliyah Hind and after a quick sniff of each Hindi Tabac seems the most promising. A question for more experienced D&Z connoisseurs, what is the projection/longevity of December Anbar and Ghaliyah Ghazali like?

emperor Hind opens nicely with florals and citrus but drys down (too) quickly to a smoky musky leather or smoky leathery musk which is a bit coarse and uninteresting if you have experienced a lot of these notes previously. The drydown reminds me of some of my experiments with macerated musk grains and hindi type ouds and a few other naturals including labdanum. Overall nice but not exceptional in my opinion.

I really love the original brindaban, emperor hind and the original risingmysore. Did I recall someone mentioning that these are not 100% all natural offerings? O_O

Interesting, thanks. What would be your #1 in this style of perfumes? What is the refined smoky leathery musk of your choice?

Btw, a little off topic, but how do you like Saffron by Ajmals Purely orient?

Good question, I am not sure I have found one that wows me yet maybe with the exception of Onthamara, Oud Zhen is also great but doesn't have musk. The problem for me is that while I love musk, leather and hindi oud I am not a big fan of smokiness. Interesting that you mention Ajmal Saffron as I would love to try Cuir from the purely Orient collection but it seems to be a unicorn.
Ajmal Saffron is one of my favourites from the collection along with Incense, it opens with a raspberry and saffron burst, quite fresh/sweet, I do get a bit of rose and oud as it drys down. Maybe a few synthetics but well blended.

I see... I can agree about smokiness. Ever since i discovered Tribute, all other "smoke" seems inferior in every aspect.

I have a sample of cuir, i could probably send a part of it to you.
Not very leathery to me, has strong ambery, orange and flover vibe on top of oud, but very polite per my standards, contrary to what you might read on fragrantica. Pm me if ud want some to try.

I just wanted to pop in and say I picked up the Rising Mysore extrait and I have not had performance issues, or at least what I would describe as performance issues. The caveat is I am new to Dixit and Zak and have never tried any of the other versions of Rising Mysore, so I cannot compare it to what seems to be the legendary original at all.

On me it performs like what I would generally expect from an extrait, which is it stays pretty close to my skin/clothes, but applying a few sprays to my chest/neck I get wafts of it throughout the day. I cannot constantly smell it, but it actually behaves a lot like Lucky Santal on me, which is one that I cannot smell all the time, but I get wafts of it throughout the day, so I know it is there.

I will say that by the end of the day I cannot really smell Rising Mysore, HOWEVER, hoping into the steamy air of a shower makes it explode off my skin hours after the original application. (I mean once I actually get under the water and use soap I assume a lot of it washes off, but still). So I wonder if the performance issues are partially an environment issue. Given that this was created in India, I wonder if it does best in warm humid weather. Because oh my, getting in the shower at the end of the day with Rising Mysore on my skin smells divine, just such a pleasant olfactory experience. I bought it blind because samples were not really available and after my first test wearing on my wrists in cold winter weather was somewhat disappointing. It was nice, but not something I would have spent that much money on for only 30/ml. However I have really come to love it in subsequent wearings and am glad to have it in my collection.

I think I would much rather have 100ml of the original EdP (or EdT or whatever it was) for the original much cheaper price, ahaha, but I am quite pleased with the extrait.

Also totally random, but does anyone get Agar Aura Al-Arabiya in the dry down of Hindi Tabac? I only have samples of both and am a bit reluctant to use up my last few drops of Al-Arabiya for random testing, but the second half of my testing with Hindi Tabac just makes me think of Al-Arabiya. Maybe it is just my skin + the weather or something or I am crazy.

Received The Last Regal about two weeks back. And a little disappointed, as about 1/8 of the juice leaked in the box. The package and bottle were packed extremely well, with lots of attention to detail, but as soon as I removed the bottle from the case, my fingers had a layer of slick oil. After removing the cap, the plastic insert remained on top of the sprayer. Seems like the leakage caused the cap to dislodge from the plastic insert. I was able to remove the plastic insert, and my fingers were covered with the oils, which smelled GREAT, by the way! Sharing some pictures, as this caused my heart to drop after seeing a good $150-$200 worth of juice leaked in the case. Love the perfume though - reminds me of the original Charbagh, but much much deeper and resinous.

Been trying to get in touch with Zak or Dixit, but no response since. I have tried their email from which their orders are generated, their chat function, online form, and Zak's personal email (when he used to operate his Agarwood Assam business). No response from any venue for 2 weeks now, which makes me believe either all contacts have been disabled/non-functional, or they choose to not even acknowledge any messages from me. Looking for them to at the very least acknowledge the situation, and maybe put some checks and balances in place to (re)enforce the sprayer and the bottle.

Has anyone had any luck with getting in touch with Zak or Dixit, either on an email or online? IMG_20230224_171648.jpg IMG_20230224_171727.jpg IMG_20230224_171757.jpg IMG_20230224_171609__01.jpg

That’s really unfortunate. Have you messaged the Dixit&Zak, Ahom_Oud, and Ahomworld Instagram accounts?

This I think is the biggest problem with D&Z. I have had a similar, but not nearly as bad issue with a couple of bottles from them. On a few the metal neck thing that goes over the sprayer keeps sliding off and I cannot store the bottles horizontally or they will slowly ooze oil. Even an hour horizontal is enough.

I assume they are also therefore prone to evaporation, so I wrap the sprayers on all of my D&Z bottles unless I have them in active rotation.

I have never tried to contact them about it though. I figure by now they are well aware and just do not care. I wish I could put them in contact with Russian Adam or something.

I do find it a bit odd that they are the only perfume house I have come across that has these issues. Even really small operations like Josh Lobb/Slumber House, Andy Tauer, Liz Moores/Papillon where I know it is literally the perfumer putting the bottles together I have never seen these issues. It is a bit curious that D&Z have gotten to the level without addressing it. Particularly because they actually do a good job in terms of presentation. The boxes and what not always feel well done. You would think by now they would have addressed the sprayer issue.

I think the reason why they have not is the fault of all of us 😅😂 because even as I write all of this and knowing it is a current problem I still fully intend to continue to buy their perfumes and even now am evaluating samples for very likely purchases.

But maybe today I will finally send them an email. I do not expect or need a response, but maybe if I add my voice to the pile eventually they will get over their inertia and use better sprayers.

Dixit and Zak is far from being on the same level as those houses you mentioned though. They rarely release more than 80 bottles at a time and even then most releases haven’t sold out. I think the last few releases had less than 60 bottles. I could see the issue being that they would need a massive order for higher quality bottles which often come with 5,000 bottle minimums but most companies want a 10,000 bottle minimum for the good stuff.

It just wouldn’t be feasible or economically viable for them to spend the money on a huge batch of higher quality bottles or the higher prices of high quality bottles sold retail in small quantities. Not saying it shouldn’t excuse them either from having leaking bottles but outside of basenotes and Instagram Dixit and Zak is essentially an unknown brand that only the most seasoned/obsessed/deranged/ fragheads know about.

But still it doesn’t excuse this issue especially with the higher priced bottles.

They can purchase bottles via smaller quantity. I have been checking fe places and chine, malaysia and india have quality supliers where bottle costs between 1-3 dollars and they dont require even a 1k minimum spend, furthermore - that cost is transfered to consumer anyways, so bottles are not issue.
Sprayers are the issue, and they can order quality sprayers that will cost them $1 even after shipping cost from europe, and they will be same crimpless as RA uses.
I didnt have leak, so i take it as one off, and Olympe just didnt have luck

Have you personally used and sampled those bottles and sprayers? I’ve purchased what I thought was quality and all the shit suffered from leaking. Very hit or miss. It was a bummer.

I couldnt get ones from china or malaysia because shipping was like 300% of bottles cost, but they were same as RA used for 3rd collection.
I did purchase 30 and 15ml bottles and sprayers that look like ones auphorie use, and i have 0 complaints, very good quality.
I originally did buy some sprayers from china, and even though i never had leaks(they are crimpless as well) but the spray nozzle plastic was not centered well and overall sprayers are a bit bulkier. So that is main difference.

Tibetan Encens is up for preorder.
Indifference towards the D&Z releases has been growing in me quite a bit, so most i will be getting from them is a decant. But anyone is hyped about this new one?
