Not up to his other Oud fragrances, which are rather nice. [tobacco and wood]. This fragrance is weak and it's longevity is less than an hour. It's sillage is almost non existent. For this price I expect better.
This new reformulation is a sin. It lacks the vetiver intensity of the original and the cedar is also weak. Just what did they do to probably the BEST vetiver ever formulated? I have been wearing this for over 35 years, it is almost my daily scent. It is different. Try Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire or even Tom Fords Grey Vetiver, it has a very slight rose component. Secondly just what have they done with the bottle? The original bottle with those frosted bands was incredibly distinctive, you knew you had Gurelain Vetiver. And you were also letting people know you had the BEST avaliable, a badge of distinction. In fact all the new bottles are an abomination, cheap and ordinary. Drugstore caliber. Very disappointed in this new formulation.
One of the better oud's avaliable. More subtle and nuanced than a Montale product, od which I own several. But Montale formulates for the Middle East with more Rose in their formula. Pure Oud is not a complex formula, it has some sandlewood in it but it's Oud notes are very nice. You can not compare this to a oud a Arabian Oud in a oil perfume formula. Which incidentally can cost hundreds of dollars more. It is a nice grounded oud with deep earthy tones to it. It is not sweet nor flowery, which some people like. but I want oud pure and simple, but I will not pay that much money for oud in oil perfume prices. Sillage lasts all day into next for me. And its projection is within several feet. It will not announce yiou several blocks away. It is not a punch you in the face oud or arabian mans perfume. The sandlewood and cedar are subtle but noticable. I hardly notice any rose in Pure Oud, but I know it is there. Oud and Rose and insepperable. If you want a good Oud, you will have to pay for it.
An incredibly beautiful and intense Oud. Much like Killian Pure Oud. This is a gladiator of a fragrance that will always win. And I love it. This again is not for the meek, nor for those who like a sweet fragrance. It is a very assertive scent. Very distinctive and much to my liking. Next to Derby this scent gets more comments from friends who either love it or are frightened by its power and shy away from it.
A very quiet scent with little sense of Oud. I agree that it does not last longer than an hour. Oud is a very different and difficult fragrance to work with. The Arabians use it a lot with rose, ambers and sandlewood. Their fragrances are major powerful scents. Not blended for the european market. If you have ever smelled Vietnamese or Cambodian oud essential oil you will know exactly what I am talking about. Another example would be Montal or Amouage fragrances. Assertively powerful.
This little fragrance suffers from to much marketing hype. And it simply does not produce. And at that cost $300.00 it should do more.
