Blue Jeans by Versace

Another Versace to add in your collection...

I just recently purchased Versace's Blue Jeans... Personally, I think it compares to CK's (very old school) Eternity with a subtle touch of powder freshness creating a new scent that belongs to anyone's collection. I have found Blue Jeans will last the day without reapplication and believe it is a scent for all age groups and fits any occasion. At Amazon's price, it is a great value. 4.2 stars..

Versace Man Eau Fraîche by Versace

Eau Fraiche is a Versace Hit..!! It is in my Top Five..!!

The French definition of "Eau Fraiche" is "fresh water"... This cologne fits that description well. Somewhere between a sport and powder, this scent is soft and clean. While definitely a summer cologne, it can be used for any occasion and during any season. There has been some criticism that Man Eau Fraiche cologne fades easily - I have found that is not the case. I suppose it depends on the "body chemistry". Versace scores again with this fragrance and should be added to any collection. Definitely in my top 5. Amazon delivered great service at an amazingly low price. Five stars..!!

New York for Gentlemen by Brooks Brothers

Classy, Refined, and Underrated...

Brooks Brothers' Gentlemen was a total blind buy for me... One that worked out well and I am pleasantly surprised...

Gentlemen is a gentle citrus fragrance that settles into a smooth musky fragrance that is very nice. The fragrance fits the company - classy and distinguished. I have worn this cologne once and received no compliments, however, I am confident that with time and frequency, compliments are out there to be had. (haha - for those who know me - I have never been short on confidence..!!)

While the projection, sillage, and longevity are only above average, this may be appealing to some - those who want a pleasant fragrance (ok - I will say great fragrance) that is subtle and easy on the nose. It settles close to the skin, but I will add (yes, I do wear the shirt and tie daily) I spray my daily fragrance on my undershirt - and I do catch a glimpse of this fragrance throughout the day. Additionally, Gentlemen offers great flexibility due to its "classic" makeup that can be worn anytime of year and for any event. The bottle and packaging are done first class. I will admit that I own the small bottle and that it can be a little cumbersome spraying, but only minor deductions there. At the going rate of mid-$20s for a large bottle, the price/value is above average.

My final tally for Gentlemen is 4 stars out of 5. This scent is very pleasant without being overwhelming - definitely will not offend those in close proximity in the workplace..!! For the price/value and the classic nature of the fragrance, I definitely recommend adding to your collection. Make a decision today - will you spend your time or will you invest your time...???

Lanvin L'Homme Sport by Lanvin

Great scent that lacks projection, sillage, and longevity...

Lanvin Sport is a pleasant blended scent of citrus (lemon), spice (pepper), and musky notes. Very pleasant out of the bottle. The downside is that the fragrance is weak and does not last. Following 3 hours of wear, the fragrance is not even detectable on the skin with weak notes on clothing. That is too bad...

That said... The bottle and packaging are first class - and too be honest - the bottle design is one of my favorites in my collection that now exceeds over 400 bottles (geez - I have some issues over here..!!). You have to spend your money on something, right? I have not received any compliments, but suppose they could be received early on while wearing the fragrance. Given the many notes in the fragrance, it does offer flexibility to be worn during any season or for any event. The price/value is very appealing - the going rate is around $20 for a large bottle - just take the bottle with you to reapply (often) as needed.

My final tally for Lanvin L'Homme Sport is 3 stars out of 5. Nice scent and cool bottle - but the fragrance does not last. Make a difference is someone's life - encourage them to do something great...

Legend by Michael Jordan

Jordan scores a sweet bucket that becomes Legend(ary)...

I have a few of the MJ fragrances and this one may be the best of the lot... Total blind purchase and I am pleasantry surprised. There are some "nay sayers" out there that the fragrance is too sweet. It is sweet, but in my humble opinion, is the right masculine mix that doesn't cross the line. Out of the bottle, you get the top notes of vanilla or amber that settles to the sweeter musky notes that is easy on the nose. Nice work, MJ..

The projection, sillage, and longevity are average, perhaps a "smidgeon" (yes, I am a Southerner) better than average, that lasts about 4-5 hours on the skin and much longer on clothing - I usually give a spray to my undershirt and sleeve cuff to get that occasional whiff during the day. Legend is nice.. While I have only worn once, and no compliments were received, it has that potential. Sweetie, however, did give it a thumbs up providing the morning "smell test" prior to my departure to work. Additionally, she commented following when I told her it was a MJ fragrance, "it smells higher end than that.."

Legend provides great flexibility and versatility that can be worn just about anytime. The bottle and packaging are about average - I will add that of the MJ colognes I have, I think more could be spent on the nozzles. (ok, call me weird to notice the spray nozzles). I think they look cheaply made. I like a cologne bottle that looks great and gives the impression of a piece of art.

The price/value of this fragrance is very appealing. Given that it is a nice smelling scent, the price/value (less than $20 for a large bottle), definitely gets a strong endorsement for buying.

My final tally for MJ's Legend is 4.1 stars out of 5. It is a great scent that has above average longevity. The price is right with plenty of potential for the "Wow Factor".. Go for it..!! Life is great - remember that honesty and integrity can never be trained - they are in your makeup and earned..

FCUK Friction Him by French Connection

Decent scent - but below average projection, sillage, and longevity...

Okay - I did a double take at the label (designer) when I first spotted this cologne... I am sure there are others...

To quote one of my golfing buddies on a trip in years past, "Harry, your coffee ain't bad - but, it is not that good either..." When trying Friction, that was my first thought. This same guy is also noted for saying, "golf is just something you do while drinking beer.." Not sure I have tried a cologne that will fit that quote - but you never know..!!

Friction is not a bad fragrance - it starts out with citrus and musk notes that finishes into a decent spicy fragrance. It is generic and is a "copy cat" to many fragrances out there. The longevity, projection, and sillage are below average - lasting only a couple of hours close to the skin. The fragrance does offer flexibility or versatility as it can be worn to any event at any time of the year - just take the bottle with you to reapply (frequently) as needed. No compliments on this one thus far and it may not be worn enough to provide any follow-up down the road.

I do like the bottle and packaging - it gives the impression of an expensive and high-end fragrance. Additionally, the price/value is above average.

My tally for Friction is 3 stars out of 5 stars. It has a "catchy" name (designer), nice looking bottle, and comes at a bargain price. Only if you are the avid collector would I recommend. Always finish what you started - you will be amazed at what you can accomplish..

F by Ferragamo pour Homme Free Time by Salvatore Ferragamo

Free Time Rocks..!! Definitely a Top Ten fragrance...!!!

I am back..!!! It has been a while since my last review - you guys know the deal - working long hours, a couple of business trips, and the yearly golf trip to Myrtle Beach. I just wish my game were better..!! Keep it in the short grass, right..??

What better way to come back than with Free Time.. For those of you that like aqua and citrus fragrances, this one is for you. What is the old saying - often imitated, but never duplicated..?? Yeah, I get it that there are a number of aqua/citrus fragrances out there - Free Time is easy on the nose and unique in it's own way. It comes out of the bottle with a blast of citrus/lemon, but the beauty is, it settles into a scent of aquatic and citrus that is pleasant without overwhelming. The finishing notes of musk are subtle, but detectable...

I am so impressed with the fragrance that I have placed it in my Top Ten. Free Time offers above average projection and sillage. The longevity of the fragrance is also above average, lasting six (6) to eight (8) hours on the skin and even longer on clothing.

Regarding the "Wow Factor", I have not received any compliments - but I have only worn it once (today). It is a great scent and I am confident the compliments waiting to happen. Sweetie likes it, but she prefers the more heavy leathery, spicy, or woodsy scents. Given the type of fragrance, I would suggest that Free Time is a summer scent, but for any occasion. (Personally, I I like the fragrance so much, I would or could wear it during any season or for any event). For those who have not tried Ferragamo fragrances, go for it - perhaps a best kept secret. The only ones I have tried that didn't care for are the original (red box) cologne and the (white box) platinum edition - the others are fantastic.

Another beauty about Free Time is the price/value. Currently selling for mid-$30s for a large bottle and dropping. For that price, you will not be disappointed.

The packaging is first class and the bottle is nicely designed. A bit cumbersome, but unique and easy on the eyes. I am fond of those bottles with, at least, a portion clear to see the clarity of the fragrance - kinda like fine wine or a classy bourbon (I managed to use "classy" and "bourbon" in the same sentence - wow..!!).

My final tally for Free Time is 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. I am a fan and I definitely recommend adding to your collection. The fragrance is fantastic and for the money - go for it.. Be a leader today and change the world...

Curve for Men by Liz Claiborne

The Original Curve... A classic fragrance and a "steal of a deal"....

Curve comes out of the bottle with notes of floral, spice, and woods. Definitely a masculine fragrance. It finishes with notes of powder and evergreen. Very pleasant and easy on the nose. While their are similar fragrances out there, Curve offers a slight variation, making it slightly unique and pleasant. Curve offers above average projection and sillage. The longevity of the fragrance is also above average, lasting six (6) to eight (8) hours on the skin and even longer on clothing.

Regarding the "Wow Factor", for the price it can not be matched. While not every time worn, but on many occasions I have received compliments from hotties (I mean the opposite sex - don't tell Sweetie I made that comment..). It has potential.. Obviously, I am a fan. The real beauty of Curve is the price/value and versatility. The current rate on Amazon is a little over $25 for a large bottle - with free shipping. Curve can be worn any time of year - maybe Fall works best - any occasion and day or night.

The packaging is above average and I am digging the metal boxes - a little extra cushion if you keep and use for travel. While the bottle is nothing more than average, I do like the clip prohibiting spraying unless removed.

My final tally for Curve is 4.4 stars out of 5 stars. I like it and recommend adding to your collection. The fragrance is fantastic and for the money - go for it.. Be a leader today and change the world...

Romance by Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren designs unique and great smelling fragrances. Romance is no exception to that rule. Romance is very pleasant blend of floral, ginger, and woodsy notes with a powdery finish. Romance is definitely a clean fresh showered fragrance that is pleasant and easy on the nose. The projection and sillage is above average, especially early on, with decent longevity - it will last all day on clothing and about six (6) hours on the skin. Not too shabby..!! Strangely enough, I have not received any compliments - the Wow Factor - wearing Romance, but I think it has potential. It may the only one of my favorite frags that I have not received compliments. You folks will have to trust me - the fragrance is pleasant and will be liked by your significant other. Sweetie gives Romance a thumbs up..

The bottle and packaging is first class - I love those clear bottles - this is nothing short of expectation from Ralph Lauren. While some people would suggest Romance is a spring or summer fragrance, I would pitch that Romance offers great flexibility/versatility that allows it be worn any time of year and for any occasion. What can I say - I am comfortable in my own skin..!!

One issue of concern is the price value. There is speculation that Romance has been discontinued, driving up the price. Currently, the Amazon rate is $75.00. I can't recommend at that rate, but if you can pick it up for $50.00, I definitely recommend adding to your collection.

Final scoring for Romance is 4.5 stars out of 5. Romance is a fantastic fragrance that gives the clean fresh showered feeling all day. If the price/value were better, I would score higher. Nonetheless, Romance still ranks in my Top 10. You can change the world - make a contribution...

Bora Bora for Men by Liz Claiborne

Bora Bora by Liz Claiborne smells great and is a "steal of a deal"...

Bora Bora is a clean and fresh fragrance with a mild spice undertone. While definitely unique, it is comparable or a between Diesel (Fuel for Life) and Versace Pour Homme.

My reviews generally consider the following areas: price/value, appeal/smell, "wow factor" (compliments), longevity, uniqueness, best time of year worn or occasion, and easy on the nose (and bottle on the eyes).

The real beauty of Bora Bora is the price/value. For the money, it cannot be passed-up to add to your collection. Secondary to the price, is the "Wow Factor". My cologne collected has extended to the point where I wear Bora Bora about twice a year. Each time it is worn, I receive at least one compliment from the opposite sex. That is huge in "my book". Bora Bora also scores well with longevity. I am especially fond of applying a moderate amount of any fragrance in the morning prior to the work day and it lasting the day without needing a reapplication.

If you are into defining an occasion to wear B/B, I would think it works well for any season, time of day, or event. After the initial application, the essence smoothes out to an easygoing fragrance without being overbearing.

I give Bora Bora 4.6 years out of 5 stars. It is under-rated in the cologne arena, a great value, and I definitely recommend adding to your collection.

Aramis Life by Aramis

Aramis Life – An “unknown”, underrated, and a great value…

Aramis Life is clean and fresh fragrance with a “whisper” of spice. Just this morning, I compared the scent to a just showered smell (almost “soapy” – but a good “soapy”). The more reviews I write, it seems that I am fonder of the “clean” fragrances that are “easy on the nose”. My initial reaction to the cologne is that it is somewhere between CK Free, Intense Euphoria, and Diesel (Original Fuel for Life).

My reviews generally consider the following characteristics: price/value, appeal/smell, "wow factor" (compliments), longevity, uniqueness, best time of year worn or occasion, and easy on the nose (and the bottle is easy on the eyes).

Life has a pleasant aroma and is appealing without being overwhelming to co-workers or your significant other. Given the price/value, it is even more appealing with large bottles less than $30.00 and small bottles dipping below $20.00. It is noteworthy that I have not received compliments from the opposite sex while wearing – a deduction in the “wow factor”… Regarding longevity, Life is not as good as some, but better than most. The standard I use is applying a moderate amount prior to work in the morning and periodically “testing” the wrist area during the day. Ideally, good cologne will still be present at the end of an 8-10 hour workday. While faint, Life remains present at the end of the day…

I give Aramis Life a score of 4.4 stars, out of 5. I cannot score Life higher than my some of my favorites, i.e. Diesel (Only the Brave), Versace Pour Homme, and Polo Blue. I would, however, label it as a “best kept secret” and one to add to your collection based on the value and longevity.

25th January 2013

Polo Black by Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren has created another fragrance that will maintain popularity for years...

In my opinion, Polo Black provides a fragrance that is clean and fresh with mild fruity undertones. It is comparable to Diesel (Only the Brave), Versace Pour Homme, and can best be described as a mix between Light Blue (Dolce) and CK Free.

My reviews generally consider the following areas: price/value, appeal/smell, "wow factor" (compliments), longevity, uniqueness, best time of year worn or occasion, and easy on the nose (and bottle on the eyes).

Polo Black scores high in the "wow factor", as I have received numerous compliments from the opposite sex. It also scores well with longevity. I am especially fond of applying a moderate amount of any fragrance in the morning prior to work and it lasting the day without reapplying. Polo Black receives high marks in this area.

Polo Black smells great and while comparable to other fragrances, it does offer it's own unique essence. It is definitely a fragrance that can be worn any time of year and for any occasion without being overbearing.

My only criticism is the value of the larger bottles. Obviously, the large bottles are expensive and a strain on the wallet, Ralph Lauren has introduced smaller, more economical sizes, for those of us perceiving we are getting a deal (i.e. something under $30-$35 per bottle). Additionally, the smaller sizes are the perfect size for "sampling" and for the seasoned traveler.

All things considered, I would rate Polo Black as 4.75 stars (on a 5-star scale) and recommend adding it to your collection.

A*Men : Les Parfums de Cuir / Pure Leather by Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler's Pure Leather... Truly masculine fragrance that lasts all day...

For any looking for that "lawyer cowboy" fragrance, Thierry Mugler's Pure Leather may be for you. Out of the bottle, Pure Leather screams leather jacket with notes of coffee, pepper, and woods... This is a "pure" masculine fragrance that settles into a pleasant scent. I will confess that out of the bottle, I was disappointed and thinking that I just wasted $90.00. The fragrance settles in about an hour to a scent that is "kinda" addicting to smell and becomes more tolerable to the point of pleasing.

The beauty about Pure Leather is that it lasts all day (and then some). For anyone who loves longevity in a fragrance - this is the one for you. I have only tried one other Thierry Mugler fragrance, A*Men, and it, too, lasts all day. Thierry Mugler is becoming my favorite designer..!! Seriously some 10 hours later, the fragrance is still very much detectable and has toned/tamed down to that pleasant scent.

Leather has potential Wow Factor - when trying the tester at the mall, Sweetie could not resist getting close and she continually complimented the fragrance. This fragrance is strong and, perhaps, not for everyone. Let it settle before discounting. You won't be sorry..!!

The occasion will have to be right for this fragrance. Not sure what it is, but definitely not for everyday or just any occasion. It is outdoors - it is rugged - and it is masculine - nothing from Pure Leather that says ballroom dancing. I am thinking motorcycle riding down the Mississippi River on Route 61/35 in Minnesota/Wisconsin and stopping into some the "local establishments"... Geez - those were the days..!!

My only negative factor regarding Pure Leather is the price/value. I picked this up in a department store at the mall for $90+. The current rate on Amazon is $124.00. Both numbers are more than what I like to pay - I have the money, but still like a good buy..!!

Total tally for Pure Leather is 4.1 stars out of 5 stars. The fragrance is unique and will take getting used to. It is expensive and not for everyone. If you want to ride down Route 61/35 south of the Twin Cities and be noticed in some of the local establishments, or similar places, this is for you. Enjoy. Make today count...

The One for Men by Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce's "The One"... The Spice of Life..?!?!

Dolce's Dolce's "The One" is very pleasant blend of floral, fruit, spice, and woodsy notes with a hint of tobacco, yes tobacco.. There may be similar scents out there, but this One carries the Dolce name, it is a pleasant scent, and is easy on the nose. Very nice..!! While I am more of a fan of aquatic and citrus fragrances, I like this One and have no problem working into the rotation. And too - Sweetie loves it.. She is a fan of the spicy, woodsy, and as she calls it, "manly" fragrances. Obviously, these are worn a little more frequently..

While I have not received compliments outside of Sweetie, One has potential. The fragrance is that good - especially shortly after the initial application. That brings me to my next performance measure - projection/sillage and longevity. Given this is a Dolce fragrance - I have greater expectations. I want this fragrance to get out and let people know I have been there. Is that too much to ask? It is a pleasant scent and it should leave a positive following. I am a little disappointed... The One projects well early on and then fades. The longevity is average at best, lasting only about five (5) hours with only slight detection above the skin and clothing.

The bottle and packaging is first class - nothing short of expectation from Dolce. Out of the box, you know you have a spicy/woodsy fragrance - the bottle is clear, the fragrance is an amber brown, and there is a nice wood grain finish with the cap - great job.. Yes, call me a Geek to notice these things..!!

While most people would suggest this is a fall or winter fragrance, I think One offers great flexibility that allows it be worn any time of year and for any occasion. What can I say - I am comfortable in my own skin..!!

Another issue with One is the price or value. The current rate on Amazon is still over $50.00 for a large bottle - while not bad, with all the choices out there, you can pick up fragrances that are as pleasant, better longevity, at a lower price. It is what it is..!! If you like the high end designers, the expectation is - you pay the higher price. Is (or will) it be worth it - you decide..!!

Final scoring for The One is 4.3 stars out of 5. The One is a great musky/'woodsy' fragrance - If the price/value were better coupled with improved longevity/projection/sillage, my scoring would be higher. Make today count...

23 by Michael Jordan

Jordan's 23... Great scent, but misses a jumper to send the game to Overtime..!!

Guys - I have four (4) of the Jordan fragrances in my collection... (the only one missing is Flight..) Of the four, 23 is probably my favorite, but they all share a common thread differentiating them from first class fragrances.

23 comes out of the bottle as a very pleasant scent that is a blend of aquatic, citrus, and spice - a fresh showered scent that is really good. It has positive projection and sillage right out of the bottle, however, it looses steam within an hour following application. The longevity is below average, lasting maybe four (4) hours - but to be honest, the fragrance is barely traceable on the skin and/or clothing after two (2) hours.

You may catch compliments that first hour following your initial application - after that, it is doubtful.

While the packaging is moderate/modest, I do like the bottle - clear bottle, allowing the clarity of the fragrance to be seen. I will add the nozzle is cheaply made/produced.

I am a fan of the aquatic/citrus fragrances. Having said this, I would be comfortable wearing this fragrance, or similar ones, to any occasion during any season in the year. Good flexibility.

The price value is good, not quite as good as some of the other Jordan fragrances, but good enough.

My scoring of Jordan's 23 is a modest 3.7 stars out of 5 stars - I like Jordan (he is a Tarheel) and will round up to 4 stars. To summarize, 23 is a very pleasant scent that is easy on the nose. If you like aquatic citrus type fragrances - pick it up. The downside, it doesn't last nor project well after the first hour. Pick it up and throw it in the gym bag.. Make a positive difference in someone's life - it will make a positive difference in your life...

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême by Chanel

It is Chanel... Sport Extreme.. Great scent - is it worth the money...??

Is it a fair statement that Chanel is one of the classic designers of fragrances..?? I believe so... I now own at least four Chanel fragrances - there may be one or two more in my collection - I can keep up..!! (For those who know me - know that is a lie - I am way OCD - everything is counted and logged..). The Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is an excellent (make that fantastic) fragrance, opening with notes cedarwood, floral, and musk to finish with a powdery woodsy scent that is pleasant and easy on the nose. Great scent - nice work Chanel..!!

The projection/sillage is above average out of the bottle, but within minutes settles to just above the skin and/or clothing. It is good, but could be better - I like people smelling the wake as I stroll through..!! The longevity is average to slightly above average, lasting about six (6) hours on the skin and/or clothing (i.e. shirt sleeve).

While there is strong notes of "woodsy" finish, Sport Extreme offers great flexibility to be worn during any season, for any occasion, and day or night. I am a fan of this fragrance. The bottle and packaging are above average, although there is slight disappointment in the bottle - I like clear bottles where you can see the clarity of the fragrance. You can not do this with Extreme (nor can you tell how much is left in the tank..!!).

My only big issue - and it is a big issue - is the price/value of Extreme. The going rate on Amazon is around $90.00 for a small bottle - really..?? I make decent money and can afford to drop $90.00 here and there (I might not like it, but I do occasionally), but I believer there are plenty of fragrances out there that have a great unique scent, above average projection/sillage/longevity, that will cost much less.. I have done three reviews this week and Joop Go! at $30.00 for a large bottle is way ahead of this juice (all things considered).

My two cents on Extreme is this - 4.0 stars out of 5 stars. It is a fantastic scent, but I can't get by the price/value. If you are a collector or a Chanel fan, I definitely recommend.. Otherwise - well you know the drill... Life is full of defining moments - will the moment define you or will you define the moment..??

The One Sport by Dolce & Gabbana

The One Sport.. I love to play..!!

Guys - the relatively new fragrance by Dolce is fantastic..!! The One Sport opens with aquatic and citrus notes then settles down with notes of floral, musk, powder, and spice - Nice blend of notes that is easy on the nose.. Well done Dolce and Gabbana..!!

All of you know I am a fan of the aquatic citrus fragrances - having said this, I believe One Sport offers great flexibility and versatility that it can be worn during any season, for any occasion, and day or night... Probably marketed more for the younger crowd - but us 40+ old guys that can't let go of our 30s (and 20s) can wear this too..!! We have all the money (and the women)..!!

Today was actually my first day wearing the scent and a (female) co-worker after walking in my office says, "gee, it smells great in here..!!" I responded with - "it is probably the air freshener over on the credenza", but no - it turns out it was me and One Sport. The bizarre thing is - I had given up on the fragrance still being detectable some two hours earlier. It was still working and The Wow Factor made its presence known.. It has potential..!! I would prefer the projection and sillage to be better, but it is average as well as the longevity. Sure, there are better performers out there, but this juice is good...

The bottle and packaging are first class - no surprises from Dolce.. I am especially fond of the clear bottle and clarity of the juice - nicely done..

The pricing and value could be better... Yes, the price is dropping and you are buying a (great) Dolce fragrance, but I have been spoiled with buying fragrances at a discount.. Yes, I may have the money, but do enjoy that good buy at a "sale price"...

All things considered, I give One Sport 4.2 stars out of 5 stars. The fragrance is pleasant and you will like it immediately. While it has potential Wow Factor, it is early or shortly after the initial application. Great juice, but needs just a little more longevity/projection/sillage for the money. If the price continues falling, perhaps to below $50.00, definitely buy.. Imagine and Dream..!!

Joop! Go by Joop!

Go with Joop..!!! It will be well worth the journey...

So Joop Go was the last of my 2012 Christmas colognes... Sweetie really hooked me up..!! And as the saying goes, "saving the best for last" is true.

I am becoming a huge fan of these lesser known Joop fragrances. My first of the Joop fragrances, like many guys, was the original - while I like it, original may be at the lower end of my favorite list. Much too strong, spicy, and at times, overbearing. Not so with the lesser known Joop fragrances.

Go is pleasant from the beginning - out of the bottle with notes of fruit, floral, and spice that settles into a sweet (but not too sweet) fragrance that is easy on the nose and masculine. Very nice - well done Joop..!! The projection/sillage is above average and so is the longevity, lasting the whole work day on the skin and shirt sleeve.

While I have not received compliments outside of Sweetie - she loves that "sweet" smell that blends a touch of woods. I truly believe it has the potential to get you noticed. You guys know me by now - I am confident "in my own skin" - not a bad thing - it is what it is - Go offers great versatility and flexibility that you can wear any time of year, time of the day, and for any occasion. It is really that good...

The last measure to speak of is value. A current check yields that Go is listing for a little over $30.00 for a large bottle - great buy..!! If you are looking for a fragrance with a unique scent, above average longevity, and a good price/value, I recommend Joop Go..

The final tally of Go is 4.6 stars out of 5 stars. You will be hooked... Make it count today...

Abercrombie & Fitch Woods by Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie Woods... The "Original" is a classic...

What is the old saying, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it"...!!! I see that Abercrombie has relaunched the Woods fragrance. I have the original fragrance and I am almost embarrassed to say, I have had this bottle nearly 15 years. Don't laugh - with a sizable collection, I don't use it as much, but I can't part with it. The reason is simple - it is still unique among fragrances and still get's compliments... For those of you who love those musky, spicy, and outdoors ('woodsy') notes, this cologne is for you. Even if you cannot find the original, from what I read about the new relaunch, it is still the same fragrance with minimal difference from some time ago.

The bottle design is simple yet classic and Abercrombie does a great job with packaging (and marketing). Probably catering to a younger crowd, I have no problem wearing it (or buying a new bottle). It is excellent for fall/winter and will work for any occasion.

Like I said, Woods is ripe for compliments. I may wear this cologne twice a year now, but I still receive compliments. This was the first time Sweetie has experienced Woods and while not initially impressed, she grew more fond of it as the day progressed. On a sidebar - she kept her nose close to my neck most of the night..!! :) (don't mention that I wrote that should you know or meet her..) The Wow Factor is there - It has potential..!! I can't speak of the longevity for the relaunch, but the original Woods lasts for hours and scores well above average.

My only complaint about Woods is the price or value. I am very critical in Department Store signature fragrances - they can be over priced with below average longevity, especially if purchased in the store. In prior reviews, I have been critical of the value of Hollister fragrances. If you can find Woods on sale, or through other means, for around $25.00 - I definitely recommend picking it up.

Final scoring for Woods 4.2 stars out of 5. Woods is a great musky/'woodsy' fragrance - If the price/value were better, perhaps my scoring would be higher. Play like a champion today...

Champion by Davidoff

Davidoff has created a true Champion... Great scent with lasting longevity...

I own several of Davidoff fragrances and turning into a huge fan...(several of the Cool Water renditions..). Sweetie hooked me up with Champion as a Christmas present and I have been impressed since I first smelled the bottle. Outstanding...!!

Champion comes out of the gates with citrus lemony notes that settles into a unique spicy fragrance with notes of outdoors. It is a great scent that I like more with each time wearing. The projection/sillage is average, but the longevity is outstanding. Some 10 hours later, the fragrance is still detectable on the skin and clothing. You guys know that I am most critical of the longevity.

Champion offers great flexibility/versatility with notes of both citrus and woods that will work well with any season, occasion, or time of day. I am pleasantly surprised, almost to the point of being impressed. Regarding the Wow Factor - Sweetie got to the neck area shortly after I arrived home following a day of work and gave me the thumbs up and asked what it was... She was "tickled" (yes, I am a Southerner) to find that she bought it for me.. She smiled..!! The Wow Factor is there..!!

The review gets better - the bottle and the value..!! Awesome..!! While I have the small bottle, it resembles a barbell from the gym equipped with clamp to keep the plates in place - you workout guys know what I am talking about..!! Now for the price/value - Champion is currently listing for under $20.00 for the small bottle and just over $20.00 for the next size up - plus free shipping..!! Definitely add to your collection.

My final tally for Champion is 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. If it were more citrus that woodsy, the scoring would be higher. All things considered - this fragrance is a best kept secret and under rated. Play like a Champion today...

Style In Play by Lacoste

Lacoste (Red) Style in Play... Classy and Distinguished...

For those of you following my reviews know that I am a fan of the aqua, citrus, and fresh scents. Lacoste (Red) Style in Play is from that mold and I am a fan. Of particular interest - I received this as a Christmas present - thanks Mom..!! Obviously, there is some sentimental value in Style in Play...

I have four (4) other Lacoste fragrances, maybe more, and Style in Play is my favorite. It opens with citrus and "fresh" notes and finishes with citrus, musk, and hints of "woodsy" notes. It is definitely masculine and provides that "freshly showered feeling" - you guys know what I am talking about. To reiterate, I like it and it is easy on the nose.

I have worn Style in Play once since Christmas. While I have not received any "formal" (outside of Sweetie) compliments, it has potential. The fragrance is that unique and appealing. For those that like Versace Pour Home and Diesel, Only the Brave, you will enjoy this fragrance. Style in Play has average, or slightly above average, projection/sillage with longevity of 6+ hours - a little longer on clothing (I like to spray a little on my business shirt sleeve around the cuff/wrist area). As far as the occasion goes - I would feel comfortable wearing Style in Play during any season, time of day, or any event - great flexibility and/or versatility.

The packaging and bottle design are fantastic - definitely unique and one gets the impression Lacoste wants to compete with Ralph Lauren, Dior, Chanel, and other high end designers. My only disappointment with the fragrance is the price/value. Current deals has the larger bottle selling for about $50.00, which seems a little high given the fragrance has been around for a while. Lucky Me - Mom hooked me up..!!

Final scoring for Style in Play is 4.4 stars out of 5. If the price/value were better, perhaps my scoring would be higher. Style in Play finishes just outside my Top 10. Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try...

Cool Water Freeze Me by Davidoff

Freeze Me... A different rendition of a classic - Cool Water...

I am a big fan of the Davidoff fragrances, having at least seven (7) in my collection. Freeze Me is the novelty fragrance of the bunch, but I am fond of it - and it also a sentimental favorite, receiving it from Mom as a Christmas present - thanks, Mom..!! Freeze Me smells similar (to be honest, I cannot note any differences) to the original Cool Water with that blend of citrus, floral, herbal, and musky/"woodsy" notes. It smells great and will be a classic fragrance (original Cool Water).

I have worn Freeze Me once since Christmas. While I have not received any "formal" (outside of Sweetie) compliments, it has potential - In comparison, it is rare that when wearing the original Cool Water that I do not receive compliments. In time, I think Freeze Me will receive similar kind words. I am, however, disappointed with the projection/sillage and longevity. Average at best compared to excellent for the original. Freeze Me will last about 5 hours on the skin and clothing. It offers great flexibility and versatility that fits any occasion. Perhaps geared more for summer, it really will work well any time of year.

The packaging and bottle design are fantastic - definitely unique and a novelty item. I love it. The price/value is solid - a current check finds getting a large bottle for about $30.00 with free shipping - not too shabby..!!

My scoring of Freeze Me is 4.5 stars out of 5. If the longevity were better, my scoring would be higher. It is just outside my Top 10, but if you enjoy novelty items, definitely pick it up. Around every corner is an opportunity - make it count...

Soul by Curve for Men by Liz Claiborne

Guys... I probably have seven (7) - maybe more now that I think about it - other Claiborne (i.e. Curve) fragrances and would say that I am a fan... I received Soul as a Christmas present (and four other bottles) from Sweetie and I love it... (there is some sentimental value in there too..)

Soul is a very pleasant fragrance that reminds me of the original Dior Fahrenheit, opening with a blend of aquatic, herbal, and "woodsy" notes then settling into a musky fragrance that is easy on the nose. It is not too distant from the original Curve. I am, however, disappointed in the projection/sillage and longevity of Soul, finding it only has (at best) average longevity - lasting about 3-4 hours on the skin and clothing. I prefer a solid 8 hours that can get me through the work day. The solution is simple - pack the bottle and reapply as needed - I just did during the lunch break..!!

Today is the first day wearing Soul and no compliments, i.e. the Wow Factor, have been received yet. No worries though - Sweetie has already "blessed" the juice with a thumbs up and a "whoa, that smells great - what is it..??" comment when I took it out of the bottle. It has potential.

Soul is packaged nicely and gives the impression of something more expensive. I am very fond of the Soul label, highlighting the words, "Love", "Passion", "Hope", and "Truth" - words to live by... Minor deduction in "cool points" on the nozzle - while the amount of spray is generous and sufficient, it looks "cheaply" manufactured. Again, slight deduction, from a nicely designed bottle/label.

For those enthusiasts with a big collection, or those on a budget, the real beauty of Soul is the price/value. Similar to other Claiborne fragrances, a large bottle can be purchased for under $20.00. Great deal (and scent) for the money..!! Soul also offers great flexibility/versatility to be worn during any season, time of day, or any event - I think it will work well for any occasion.

The tally for Soul is 4.3 stars out of five - if the longevity were greater, it would probably be close to my Top 10 list. Ride the wave and don't ask where it goes..!!

Visit by Azzaro

Visit... A touch of pepper... A touch of spice... A touch of musk... And - Visit is a “steal of a deal”...

If you are looking for a mild musk or spicy fragrance, with a unique back note of pepper, Azzaro's Visit may be for you. Visit comes out of the bottle with notes of pepper and spice then settles into that amber, musky, and woodsy fragrance that is common - but with the addition of "pepper", is unique to Visit.

My reviews generally consider the following areas that are important to me: appeal and uniqueness of the scent (i.e. easy on the nose); "wow factor" (compliments), projection/sillage, longevity, appropriate season and event for fragrance; quality and/or uniqueness of bottle and packaging (i.e. easy on the eyes); and, the price/value of fragrance.

While not totally inclusive, my evaluation of Visit is as follows (scoring is out of 5 stars – 1 star is low, 3 is average, and 5 stars is best):

Appeal/Uniqueness of Scent: 5

Wow Factor: 4

Projection: 4

Longevity: 5

Appropriate season/event for fragrance: 4

Quality/design of bottle and packaging: 4

Price/Value: 5

Total Points:31 points

Average Score: 4.43

Comments:The real beauty of Visit is the price/value. For the money, it cannot be passed-up to add to your collection. $30.00 for a large bottle - and free shipping..!! Secondary to the price, is the uniqueness of the fragrance. Yes, there are plenty of spicy fragrances out there, but Visit offers a blend of spice and woods that is cologne unique, yet not overbearing. Visit also scores well with longevity.I am especially fond of applying a moderate amount of any fragrance in the morning prior to work and it lasting the day without reapplying.

I give Visit 4.43 stars, out of 5.It is under-rated in the cologne arena, a great value, and I definitely recommend adding it to your collection.
