Fragrance House

Vaara started life as the passion of His Highness Gaj Singh II who wanted to reflect his family’s deep love and connection with Jodhpur. Vaara offers a unique and beautiful glimpse into this aromatic world of the Maharaja.

Perfumer Bertand Duchaufour’s journey to Jodhpur provided him with an abundance of inspiration for the fragrance and the end result, Vaara, cleverly captures the spirit of this fascinating part of India.

Although India is the name of Princess perfume, the smell is not heavy, gaudy, but also not really spicy.
The beginning of the rich sweet fruit, the quiet gentle sandalwood, cedar end, the middle of peony, rose, freesia holding hands jumping Waltz, Vaara is like flying in flowers in colorful saris. The biggest bright spot Vaara, than the rare saffron spice, and it was added to make this a flagship exotic perfume is more unusual. In concept, is actually quite easy to start with a "light oriental" ah ......

A room filled with big, floral bouquets. Smells of springtime. Makes me think of Easter. Delightful blend of notes even if, the top and middle seem to be exposed at the same time. I'm not a major fan of florals but, this one is exceptional. A few notes stand out more than others. Dusty roses. Delicate, earthy fruit seed, vegetable seeds, whatever. It's good to me! Hints of saffron - never loud.

An unusual base in that it's not a heavy mix considering the listed notes. It's light, barely musky, and dotted with honeyed sweetness that doesn't make one wretch from over-bearing sugar.

Kind of smells like a new lipstick later, or a fine, face make-up powder. Nicely done!

To sing the praises of the light touch – Vaara is a petit pastille offered on a silver tray. You admire its delicacy and artistry precisely because it offers rich, sumptuous ingredients in a small and refined serving. Vaara reminds me of a rose-flavoured loukoum except it is more of a gel that quickly dissolves revealing its delights than rather than an oversweet chew. Combining a cool, aqueous rose that over time becomes more substantial while remaining soft as a baby’s kiss, with a gentle accent of the rose-and-apple aroma of quince, hints of saffron and a sheer and silky woods and musk base, it’s an exercise in beautifully thought through subtlety that I could wear any day of the year.

I hadn't cared for the two Penhaligon frags I'd tried (English Fern and Sartorial)so I was very surprised by this one- a fresh blast of quince paste and rosewater, followed by many notes I couldn't ID. Very fresh and inviting- I list this as a unisex frag, but a man would have to be a daring dandy to pull it off. One of my faves right now.

It's something original. I smell a lot of saffron and roses. Saffron makes it bitter enough for it to be completely unisex. It's not for me, but it's very well crafted. Projection is good, as is longevity. You later get spices.

Good !

Stardate 20170108:

This is boring. Same as the most other Penhaligons. Starts nice and then after few minutes fizzles.
Nothing much to offer after the top. Generic base notes.

Unlike other Penhaligons, Vaara has good longevity. But then the cloying and generic base stays on your skin begging to be washed off.
I cannot recommend this when there are so many better rose fragrances (Tiziana, Aramis Calligraphy, Armani Prive...)
