Reviews of Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca by Guerlain

Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca is a kind and feminine smell, but far from sexy or elegant. A dowtime, chilltime fragrance. Bitter orange, white floral, petitgrain, soap and powder-that sums up my first impression of this one. It's definately not a bad blend but it's too plain for my taste.

The down is that it is a really simple scent, we shall not expect layers much or transformation. Of course, it does adapt to the skin, but it stays the same all in all. It's simplicity and brightness, with a slight bitterness makes it a summer daytime scent.

Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria is probably my favourite perfume line, but eh. It's not like I have to adore every fragrance in it. And this one is just that for me - eh. When I tried it the first time it didn't even get on my skin after a paper test. Of course I tried it out later just to see if my perception has changed, but I'm still not too impressed. I mean, it's nice. I'd wear it if I had a bottle as I do like the highly citrusy top notes that last pretty well - the bergamot, the lemon, the tart orange, I really like them all. But that dirty-dusty-sweetish neroli underneath, blah. Not my bee bottle. But if you love citrusy florals, you might like it better than me.

A very light take on the ubiquitous generic combo of orange, neroli and petitgrain, this does not have the depth and richness of other exponents of the genre.

The best neroli petitgrain combos are the classics, Castile from Penhalignon and No. 126 from Floris. The petitgrain in the latter is quite sublime.

This modern Guerlain smells more like an air freshener than a serious scent. It is too light weight to compare favorably with either of the above-mentioned classics.

Decent, but in no way remarkable.

I have tried over and over to convince myself that I enjoy this. I just can't. It is too bitter for me. Bitter orange indeed. I don't think these notes marry very well. The neroli becomes smothered in all this citrus. Had there been some vanilla added it might have been fine. On the other hand, it may have ended up smelling like an orange creamsicle. This is just not for me.

This is the first non-vintage Guerlain I've smelled and I must say that I am not impressed. The fact that this sample accompanied a decant of ancient and gorgeous L'Heure Bleue didn't help. Wearing the two Guerlains on opposite wrists was like having a threesome with Daniel Day-Lewis and Huey Lewis. The comparison was, indeed, odious. The AANB is highly citric and smells like neroli and petitgrain and about a hundred other similar fragrances touted as antidotes to the summer heat. If a ubiquitous and feminine citrus fragrance is what you're after, then is probably as good as any, and undoubtedly a bit better than most. After all, it is a Guerlain.

Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca by Guerlain is summer in a bottle. This fragrance is pure citrus at it's best. The neroli and bitter orange (dry) stay on during the entire day. Rounded off by orange blossom and petit grain (sweet). Perfect for the hot summer months.
