Latest Reviews of 08 Seylon

On my skin, it opens with a plastick-y orange , and then the vanillic/spicy elemi (the main player), takes the lead. Some vetiver present in the background, and then becomes very powdery in the drydown. Overall an ok/good fragrance, but that ends up being quite sweet, with the vetiver as a supporting note more so than the star. Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 works better for me in that category (despite it's not one of my favourites).

I might update this review later, but as of now, I agree with drseid's review: it falls a bit flat and it's just 'meh' in my book.

Odin 08 - Seylon opens with a woody cedar-like accord coupling with dulled, near medicinal orange sweetened by sugary benzoin. Moving to the early heart, the sweetened dulled orange remains, as what first came off as a cedar-like woody accord turns into a woody vetiver with nutmeg spice support. During the late dry-down the composition turns slight powdery and green as the sweetened dulled orange vacates and the remnants of the woody vetiver join a moderate amount of oakmoss in the base through the finish. Projection is average and longevity outstanding at well over 15 hours on skin.

Let's start with the good... The composition has truly incredible tenacity. OK, now that is out of the way we can move on to what I think about Seylon generally. This stuff is really bad, plain and simple. I knew the composition was really bad near immediately after spraying the stuff on skin as the odd medicinal dulled orange melded with the sugary sweetness and the woods, forming a mixture that is near unbearable. Luckily, as the orange and sweetness fade things do improve, and the remaining composition development is almost mediocre. There really isn't much else to say except I hope I never have to smell this stuff again. No, it is far from the worst I have *ever* sniffed, but it definitely is among the worst I have sniffed this year. The bottom line is the $165 per 100ml Odin 08 - Seylon is an extremely sloppy amateurish composition that disappoints on every level save its outstanding longevity, earning it a "poor" 2 stars out of 5 and a strong avoid recommendation to all.
